If hybrid classes are worse than other pure classes at every specialisation, why would anyone take a hybrid class?

In a way pure DPS classes have 3 dice rolls at balance for DPS, wheras if a hybrid sucks at DPS they can't DPS.

Technically Locks are a hybrid as they are a pet class. But they should basically be right under pure dps classes, which is still Top 5.

Melee dps classes should outdo ranged. If other classes that are ranged can also be the best dps, why bother with melee classes at all?

Facetiousness aside, locks having gate, summon and stones is enough unique utility to always make them mandatory in raids.
Even if they didn't have that unique utility this statement has always been practically wrong because:
1. You can't tank or heal and DPS at the same time (you still need a separate set of gear to do both optimally); and;
2. Even though arms was better than every rogue spec last patch, more people were still playing muti.

It's kinda related to WoD though , it refers to the Demonbolt buff during Highmaul , when they gave it a stacking damage/cost increase after each cast à la Arcane mage , and made demo absurdly broken, you love it when after a small update you re 20 to 30% above the second best DPS spec .

So broken i wonder how such a change even made it live in the first place (iirc it was a surprise on a Wednesday update without even a ptu test , and lasted a week =D )

That buff was after a heavy blanket nerf to the spec in prepatch and coincided with them practically removing rain of fire. Yes DB was overbuffed, but that was fixed. Demo was strong in BRF until the HFC patch hit and then there was the infamous "We'd rather you not play Demonology" thing.

problem is, blizzard is aware of this and actively takes care to ensure hybrids can do stuff. Meanwhile, blizzard can and does just balance one spec for single role classes and calls an audible on the rest of it, to the point where we've had blizz devs telling lock players "hey just don't play demo right now thanks"

Except demo just got a really nice buff. Aff is great, destro is great, demo is pretty damn good if not great now. If any class is going to complain about having bad specs, warlock is not one of them.

No all classes should be able to perform at number one equally but blizz cant figure out how to do it, anyone who thinks just because a class can do one thing they should be better than a class that can do multiple roles is one of those gamers who are the problem not the solution.

"hybrid" has been a dead term for 3 expansions. They took away the hybrid utility in WoD, which means hybrids aren't a thing in the essence of what they used to be. So if you argument is "oh you can play resto, so balance shouldn't be as good as warlock" then that's just a shit argument.
