Especially for fanfiction I expected either Wrathion and Anduin to be tied or Shaw and Flynn. :P

Of course they would be the most popular because they're pretty much all that's left. You have characters like Genn, Mathias, Baine, and Lor'themar but they're always background characters that have no real significance to anything going on in the story.

I don't have much of a problem with Anduin though, I think he's pretty cool. Also where the fuck is Varok Saurfang?!

Why on earth is Wrathion popular? I can really remember him having a big role to play anywhere. Sure he is a Dragon and son of Deathwing but there are a lot more popular Dragons like Ysera, etc.

Also as someone that has been away from the game for 6+ years I totally dig Sylvannas as a character. Never quite liked her back when I played Alliance but it was cool to see her side of events after playing the Horde Legion scenario.

The Alliance just has no “cool” characters left. I started in WTLK and found Paladins and Tirion Fordring really cool and bad ass. However I returned and found out Tirion randomly dies when he was suppose to have “retired”. Looks they just wanted to kill and Alliance character. Thought Varian was another bad ass but they kill another one. Cannot think of anyone else that stands out on the Alliance. Almost all the Alliance “heroes” are dead. Turaylon and Aleria returned which I think is cool but I never got to spend much time with both.

The Horde on the other hand have Sylvannas who I think is a really really strong and big character. A fun feels more like a child in a man’s world.

Malfurion is suppose to an immortal demigod but he sucks and lacks any personality. Dude looks like a chicken half the time. Same again with Tyrande. She is just eye candy until finally they decided to do something with her and make her the “Night Warrior”.

So yeah I think WoW’s big main character right now is Sylvannas. Blizzard would be stupid to kill her off.

How the hell is Wrathion, who has had a cup of coffee in the total Warcraft lore until he got shoehorned into the final patch of BfA after being forgotten about all of WoD and Legion, more popular than Varian Wrynn?

With that in mind, how the hell is Varian more popular than Arthas? Arthas IS Warcraft. The character's legacy literally carries Warcraft on his back. THE game that made WoW even possible has his face on it. WoW's most memorable and profitable expansion has him on the cover. Anduin, Sylvanas, and Jaina are just supporting characters in the soap opera of the story from every significant facet; marketing and story-wise.

My fav characters will always be the WC3 main characters.

With some exceptions though. Like Jaina. I much prefer her pre-theramore bombing character to what she is today. But then again I'm one of those people that don't like that she was accepted back in Kul'Tiras and even made Admiral.

Malfurion and Tyrande. I hated their characters after Cata and until the burning of Teldrassil. They just looked so weak. Infact that applies for Night Elves in general. I hope they do them justice from now on.

Illidan should've stayed dead honestly.

Honestly, I just wish they'd focus more on the world instead of the characters so much. BFA feels like a drama tv series with how much the characters are in the spotlight. They should take a backseat.

It's weird to see Arthas and the Bitch Queen so evenly matched. Facepalm-worthy, actually.

More on topic, my favourite character is Bob. He's always the politician, and represents the BE ethos quite well. A close second would be Vol'jin, whom I had always had a soft spot for since WC3... Too bad that he got unceremoniously killed in order to make room for Suevanas.
