So much for that whole "Xbox is taking over Japan and sold out" narrative. The Series S and Series X sold a combined 22k for launch week in Japan. That is less then the Xbox One which sold 25k on it's launch week. Pretty easy to boast a sell out when you ship less consoles then your previous launch lmao. There is no traction here, sorry for the believers.

Aside from dmc 5, they have nothing for japan
Which is still a sell out and 5 times more then Series X. Nintendo is gaming in Japan, Playstation is a niche in Japan and Xbox is a non existent afterthought in Japan. Not sure why I have to break this down for you. Nobody was claiming the PS5 was going to stop the home console decline in Japan, but people where really here claiming Xbox was going to light up Japan and steal support from PS5.
Oh and for the record based on demand and lotteries, pretty sure if they shipped 300k PS5s to Japan as they did PS4s they still would of sold every one of them. They could of also just delayed the Japan launch until Feb like they did PS4s if they cared about matching this number.

The Vita did not do that good in Japan, just better then rest of world. The 3DS stomped it in Japan. When you factor in handhelds are more popular in Japan and also the fact the PS4 sold more then the Vita in Japan what does that really say about Vita success there?

We are comparing results of popular console on home market (which obviously supplied more units than competition) to results of successor of imported console that sold 140k units in 7 years. They still sold out everything they've managed to bring. You can speculate what sales we could've seen if production wasn't fucked by COVID, I'd rather wait until things go to normal.
Hardware manufacturing for Series and PS5 has not been effected by covid at all. The bulk of these systems where made in China and their factories where back in full force long before these things started being mass produced. It took multiple days for Series preorders to sell out in Japan, which is why it got allocated the stock it did. You think MS saw some massive demand there and said "lets ship less then xbox one"? Hell the Series S is readily available in almost every EU country right now, that's stock that could of went to Japan if they thought there was a demand there.

Yes, and it took 3 days post TGS for those preorders to sell out. The PS5 was sold out in minutes with 5 times the stock. Do the math on that demand genius.
Do better is an understatement, it's like comparing Apple to Nokia. Series probably won't even reach a 1 mil install base in Japan lmao.
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S sold less consoles in Japan than the previous generation...
But both sold out.
Fanboy fanboying is dumb.
Selling out 22k systems in 3 days, the Japan takeover in full effect /s Had it sold out in minutes like the other one did you might have an argument of not being able to gauge demand but the fact it took 3 days with that limited of stock basically says the obvious: Japan still doesn't give a fuck about Xbox.
Except both the PS5 and Xbox sold out.
And the Xbox selling out in Japan is a marked improvement compared to how the One X and S did...
I'm not in the camp saying they're taking over Japan for console because that's pretty much never going to happen (Sony being a Japanese company and all and MS is not), but it does mean things are improving.
Yes, 118k selling out in minutes and 22k selling out in 3 days.
The demand is not even in the same universe.
And if you weren't one of the ones claiming Xbox is gonna take over Japan then none of this is directed at you so why are you mad about it? The people that claimed this know who they are.
