It may be a form of censorship, but it's a legit form.
No different than bleeping out words that may be recognized as swearing.

Fair enough. Then I'm even in favor of some censorship (i.e. incitements to violence).

Of course the game made in a country with a single party authoritarian ethno-state tells others to keep politics out

Certainly it would be beneficial to keep political party content out of the game but they should still allow content that is about political philosophy and (non-violent) ideologies, imo. It shouldn't be divisive or harmful to have content that is about political ideas as long as it's disconnected from party tribalism and specific politicians.

Their platform, their say. Just like all the social media and other privately-owned platforms that dictate what resides there, Nintendo has the same rights as Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Of course but what's more important than legal rights is whether the policy improves the game and whether the policy makes sense.

Without exception, politics in an online setting will ALWAYS devolve into people turning into mindless maniacs and never reaching any sort of mutual resolution. If Nintendo wants to keep that idiocy out of their game, good on them.

Fair. I don't agree/disagree with Nintendo, I don't play the game and have no dog in the fight. But Animal Crossing is their platform and they have every right to impose whatever speech restrictions they want. And if they don't want the game used as a political tool, that's their prerogative.

Government censorship is bad, but this isn't government censorship. Private entities have every right to censor whatever they don't support within their own domains, and that is a critical part to free speech, as counterintuitive as that sounds. Forcing Nintendo to support the use of their platforms for things they do not support violates Nintendo's right to free speech. People who want to voice such things have alternative venues to go to.

If it diminishes the game and makes zero sense, the game suffers. This applies to any game update. I'm just tired of people quoting and crying "free speech violation" when they don't have the first clue on how free speech works.

Nintendo has bravely put its foot down on cringe, which I endorse because that shit was cringy.

On MMO-C we learn that Anti-Fascism is locking arms with corporations, the State Department and agreeing with the CIA, But opposing the CIA and corporate America, and thinking Jews have a right to buy land and can expect tenants to pay rent THAT is ultra-Fash Nazism. Yeah, I thought cringe was assassinated at the same time as Pepe was taken back... I only use it against Trump supporters and boomers, since parlor is a bit slow on getting the news.

Uhm, yes it is. Just because society agrees they should be allowed to, doesn't change what they do.

Just so I stay up to date; what is the current term for that sinking disappointment you feel when something creative is just awful....?

    Flat Earth theory...

Edit: I take that back... Electric Universe Theory is far more creative and far more disappointing at the same time. Such brilliant minds with one bias that completely ruins their lives. I can only imagine the contributions these people could have had to science, if not for that one bias.
