It's little gems like this that keep my smiles going. Seriously, this is fantastic.

On a broader note, I cannot wait for GA polls to close. I want this to be over almost as much as I want GA to go double Blue.

on CNN, they were showing a polling place in Savannah I think? And there was NO ONE in line. Wonder if that means republicans aren't showing up today like they assumed they would?

Probably Thursday afternoon. If it is a close race then there won't be any numbers that have any meaning for a day or two. Probably closer to two.

The first sets of numbers will be mostly republicans. The last sets of numbers will be mostly democrats. So tonight, if republicans don't have a huge advantage it's basically over. But I would say be patient. There may be quite a few twists and turns until 2 Senators are finally seated.

Theoretically this is a good sign. On the other hand, it could be that everyone that wanted to vote already did so.

Yeah, reports are that election day turnout is pretty low, with some polling places only seeing a dozen votes cast per hour. Could be meaningless if most folks already did their voting - something like 40% of Georgia's total registered voters, or 3 million people, cast their votes early, and turnout is always lower for these things.

The GOP knows that all they have to do is rattle off boogeymen buzzwords like socialism, illegal immigrants, welfare, and sprinkle them with guns and Jesus, and they'll have a solid and loyal base scared enough to go out and vote for them no matter what.
It's ironic to that these same people would turn around and claim that democrats seek to control people with fear.

Georgia is definitely a Red Mirage state. That info about Savanah is enticing. Trying not to get my hopes up....

I'm not getting my hopes up, but this has gone about as well for Democrats as anyone can reasonably expect.

Still, it's a work day, and there's lots of voter suppression and lots of Republicans in Georgia. We might see more turnout later in the afternoon.

I hear what you are saying.

I will offer a theory as to why republican voters would stay home.

The republican ads were almost all VERY VERY negative. If people heard those ads, then went to conservative news sites and read about more negativity, then the message could have morphed into "It's SO bad that it's HOPELESS why bother."

Many of the ads were also very much flat out lies, or based on 1 shred of truth and 99 shreds of falseness. It's possible that many (not all) republicans saw through the brute force unsubtle attempts at deception. Rending the emotional impact they were going for moot. It's also hard to get excited about voting for someone you just flat out do not trust, and afterall Perdue and Loeffler DID approve each of the messages. Or enough of them anyways.

Negative advertising has it's limit where they start being unproductive and even counter productive. It's got to be exhausting for republicans to keep up with all of the different conspiracies that SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE just for the sheer purpose of taking away their freedoms.

Person 1: DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE LATEST OUTRAGE???

Person 2: That was 2 outrages ago...

First exit polls are incoming! Reminder for people not to panic today.

Remember what the election was like some two months ago.

Trump leads by 16 points with 30% in. Tonight should be faster than this - but man. NBC and pollsters don't talk about it in detail.

And we have to remember that Georgia is a Red Mirage, which means first returns are going to be in favor of the GOP.

    When do the polls close?

7PM EST. Agree on the mirage - Fulton county elections administrator said early voting was higher for this election in the county than November. That's a good sign for Dems. Cautiously optimistic...

That'd probably be a lot different if I lived in like....Fulton County, but I live in a rural county that's pretty small population wise.
Did you vote in person on election day as well? And if so how was it then?

Don't get your hopes up. Savannah is blue. The issue republicans were facing is NW GA counties had low early turnout, but right now there are still long lines right now in Cherokee county and Bartow, so keep all hopes in check, because republicans certainly have come out today.

Doesn't look like that to me. looks like they've counted about 6k results. They may have been showing polling previously which had both democrats slightly ahead.

Per beanman, they've been conducting exit polling with early voters, mail-in voters by phone, and today. I'm not sure how much weight I'd put behind their exit polling, but polling was definitely trending towards small leads for Ossoff/Warnock. But polling's been all over the place so who knows.

CNN saying today Voting in dekalb county is bigger than nov 3rd's. that is encouraging.

edit - overall voting in dekalb might be equal to general election. Dems are in play.

edit2 - 72k less votes in fulton county. but it's a special so it would be lower, just gotta hope it's lower across the board to even it out. Dekalb is still good.
