Google suspends Parler from app store
Google on Friday suspended social media platform Parler from its app store while joining Apple in calling on the platform to tighten its content moderation rules or risk permanent removal.
Google said in a statement it is suspending Parler, an app popular among conservatives that has gained popularity in recent months over its hands-off approach to content moderation, due to "continued posting" in the app that it said "seeks to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.”
“In order to protect user safety on Google Play, our longstanding policies require that apps displaying user-generated content have moderation policies and enforcement that removes egregious content like spots that incite violence. All developers agree to these terms and we have reminded Parler of this clear policy in recent months,” the company said in a statement.
“We recognize that there can be reasonable debate about content policies and that it can be difficult for apps to immediately remove all violative content, but for us to distribute an app through Google Play, we do require that apps implement robust moderation for egregious content,” the statement continued.
Google said that in light of “this ongoing and urgent public safety threat,” it is suspending Parler listings from the Play Store until it “addresses these issues.”
Taking bets now!
How long until Trump safes F it and makes an account on Stormfront?

Ladies, gentlemen, and smizmars: 60 seconds of irony.
And now, the punch line!Trump, tweeting from the @POTUS account after Twitter banned @realDonaldTrump, wrote that he and his team are looking at the possibility of "building out our own platform in the near future."
"As I have been saying for a long time, Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and the Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me — and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me," he wrote.
"Twitter may be a private company, but without the government's gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long," Trump continued, referring to his longstanding criticism of a key liability protection for tech companies that he has pushed to repeal.
I can't top that."I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future," Trump added in a series of tweets. "We will not be SILENCED!"
Trump's tweets were quickly removed from the page but were viewed before disappearing. A copy of the president's statement was also shared with reporters covering the White House.

I knew it, I knew he was only quiet because they threatened his twitter account, now he's a man unhinged. Between him whipping his base into a frothing rage that see anyone not in a maga hat as an enemy of America, and the fact they're losing most accessibility to Parler and (probably Gab), we're going to be in for a rough few weeks folks.

All the platforms that have banned or restricted Trump so far
Here is a running list:
REDDIT:
WHAT: Reddit has banned the subreddit group "r/DonaldTrump," a spokesperson confirmed to Axios on Friday.
COMMENT: "Reddit's site-wide policies prohibit content that promotes hate, or encourages, glorifies, incites, or calls for violence against groups of people or individuals. In accordance with this, we have been proactively reaching out to moderators to remind them of our policies and to offer support or resources as needed," a spokesperson tells Axios.
CONTEXT: While not an official group or page hosted by the president, it's one of the company's largest political communities dedicated to support for President Trump.
TWITCH:
WHAT: Twitch disabled Trump's channel, citing the move as a "necessary step" to protect its community and "prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence."
COMMENT: “In light of yesterday’s shocking attack on the Capitol, we have disabled President Trump’s Twitch channel. Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President's incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence," a spokesperson told Axios.
CONTEXT: Twitch was one of the first platforms in June to temporarily ban Trump's channel for hateful content around the Black Lives Matter protests over the summer.
SHOPIFY:
WHAT: Shopify took down two online stores affiliated with Trump — his organization and his campaign's merchandise sites — for violating its policies on supporting violence.
COMMENT: "Shopify does not tolerate actions that invite violence. Based on recent events, we have determined that the actions by President Donald J. Trump violate our acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits promotion or support of organizations, platforms or people that threaten or condone violence to further a cause. As a result, we have terminated stores affiliated with President Trump." - a spokesperson told The Financial Times.
CONTEXT: Shopify had until Friday gone the farthest in actually de-platforming Trump, as his stores were permanently removed, not temporarily disabled.
TWITTER:
WHAT: Twitter announced Friday that the platform will permanently ban President Trump's account effective immediately.
COMMENT: "After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said in a statement.
CONTEXT: It's Twitter's strongest-ever action against the president's account and comes in response to the "risk of further incitement of violence," per the social media company.
GOOGLE:
WHAT: Google has pulled Parler, a social media app for conservatives and far-right extremists.
COMMENT: "In order to protect user safety on Google Play, our longstanding policies require that apps displaying user-generated content have moderation policies and enforcement that removes egregious content like posts that incite violence," José Castañeda, a Google spokesperson said.
CONTEXT: Google’s move immediately suspends Parler, going further that Apple's earlier decision to remove the app unless it submits a content moderation plan.
YOUTUBE:
WHAT: YouTube is accelerating its enforcement of election misinformation and voter fraud claims against Trump and other channels.
COMMENT: "Due to the extraordinary events that transpired yesterday, and given that the election results have been certified, any channel posting new videos with these false claims in violation of our policies will now receive a strike, a penalty which temporarily restricts uploading or live-streaming. Channels that receive three strikes in the same 90-day period will be permanently removed from YouTube," Alex Joseph, a YouTube spokesperson, told Axios.
CONTEXT: YouTube is typically slow to take action on bad content and accounts. Its response, while swift, was somewhat benign compared to competitors removing or disabling Trump's account. YouTube did remove the video Trump posted Wednesday that addressed the Capitol violence without fully condemning it.
FACEBOOK:
WHAT: Facebook banned Donald Trump from posting on his Facebook accounts for at least the next two weeks until the transition of power to President-elect Joe Biden is complete.
COMMENT: "We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great," CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post Thursday.
CONTEXT: On Wednesday, Facebook did remove the video Trump posted Wednesday addressing the violence without fully condemning it before taking greater action against Trump on Thursday.

TIKTOK:
WHAT: TikTok is removing content violations and redirecting hashtags like #stormthecapitol and #patriotparty to its community guidelines.
COMMENT: None
CONTEXT: Other hashtags like #stopthesteal and #QAnon have been redirected since last year.
APPLE:
WHAT: Apple on Friday threatened to remove right-wing-friendly social media app Parler from its App Store if Parler doesn’t lay out a plan to moderate its content.
COMMENT: "We have received numerous complaints regarding objectionable content in your Parler service, accusations that the Parler app was used to plan, coordinate, and facilitate the illegal activities in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021 that led (among other things) to loss of life, numerous injuries, and the destruction of property,” Apple wrote to Parler in an email obtained by BuzzFeed News. “The app also appears to continue to be used to plan and facilitate yet further illegal and dangerous activities.”
CONTEXT: Apple is flexing its power to try to get Parler to moderate its content.
DISCORD:
WHAT: Discord says it has banned server The Donald, per journalist Casey Newton.
COMMENT: "While there is no evidence of the server being used to organize the Jan 6 riots, Discord decided to ban the entire server today due to its overt connection to an online forum used to incite violence and plan an armed insurrection in the United States," per Mother Jones' Ali Breland.
CONTEXT: The Discord account was connected to the pro-Trump social network TheDonald.Win and the r/theDonald subreddit that was banned Friday.
PINTEREST:
WHAT: Pinterest has been limiting hashtags related to pro-Trump topics such as #StopTheSteal since around the November election, a spokesperson said.
COMMENT: "Pinterest isn’t a place for threats, promotion of violence or hateful content," a Pinterest spokesperson said. "Our team is continuing to monitor and removing harmful content, including misinformation and conspiracy theories that may incite violence.”
CONTEXT: Trump doesn't have a Pinterest account, and the platform has tried to stay away from political content, but Pinterest hasn't been able to squelch it completely.
So, after the good news...you guys ready for me to kill the mood?
301,655 new cases. I have to go back several weeks before the holidays to compare, but the previous high for Friday was 3 weeks ago. This is 45k more than that and doesn't include Missouri.
Top 10:
California: 50,842 new cases (new record*); 679 deaths (new record)
Texas: 24,340 new cases; 466 deaths (new record)
Fuck Florida.
New York: 18,664 new cases (new record); 149 deaths
Georgia: 13,296 new cases (new record); 84 deaths
Arizona: 11,658 new cases; 197 deaths
Pennsylvania: 10,199 new cases; 203 deaths
North Carolina: 10,028 new cases; 115 deaths
Ohio: 9,535 new cases; 82 deaths
Illinois: 9,277 new cases; 167 deaths
Oklahoma, Alabama and Maine also set new records.
So, we've hit 300k much earlier than I had expected and it's starting to lend credence to the expert's reports that we could see 400k by inauguration day. This is almost certainly in large part due to the holiday bump and I don't think we've hit the upper limit yet. We're heading into the weekend so numbers will start going down as they always do, though I'm not expecting them to go below 200k this time. In October we were at around 70k on the weekends and that was considered dangerously high. Trump has fucked the US so thoroughly it's not going to get out the other end of this until late into the year at the earliest.
On a national scale testing still has not recovered fully since the holidays, dropping from peaks of 2.2 million before to 1.9 million yesterday. Back in September a report came out that stated the US needed to be conducting 193 million tests a month to safely reopen schools. Actual testing totals have never reached more than a third of that.
3,914 deaths is about 900 more than the Friday total got to about 4 weeks ago (and significantly more than the Friday tallies in the weeks after) and brings the total to 378,149. We might not have reached 4k today--though I expect the total will increase slightly more as the late info comes in--but I fully expect we'll be seeing it again next week. California is currently bearing the brunt of it which is no surprise given the massive population, but 11 other states also reported triple-digit death totals including Texas, Tennessee, Kansas, Louisiana and North Carolina, so it's hardly just a "coastal elite" problem. Expect this trend to continue for quite some time. We are now losing well over 20k people per week.

Now he just needs any and all fundraising bans and uber/lyft bans and he'll be just as banned as Laura Loomer.
NO. No they didn't. Come on, man.
Twitter banned an official government channel from using non-governmental use. Non-government use, I might add, directly attacking the service it was on.
Twitter did not ban government tweets. Trump wasn't making those. I'm going to assume that you're celebrating on a Friday night to explain this lapse.

So what's causing this dramatic upswing? People being stupid over the holidays or the fast-breeding mutant version?

McConnell circulates procedures for second Senate impeachment trial of Trump
Headline says it all.
It's not really a dramatic upswing if you take a look at the data from early-to-mid-December. We were hitting 3k before the holidays came along and new case counts were constantly increasing up until about the week of Christmas, so naturally death counts will continue to increase as they lag behind new cases by about two weeks. New case totals are STILL increasing, so we'll likely still see an increase in the daily death counts for at least another couple weeks.
The numbers of the past few days may seem dramatic since everything was drastically underreported the two weeks before, but really it's been a pretty steady increase throughout.
Procedures for second Second impeachment trial:
Basically the earliest they would be able to do the Senate trial would be the day before Biden took office anyways. So whatever the House does is only for show. Still important, but he won't be removed next week or early the week after. The earliest he could be removed would be 1/19, and that's only if the Senate started the trial early in the day and finished it up before they left for the day.“It would require the consent of all 100 senators to conduct any business of any kind during the scheduled pro forma sessions prior to January 19, and therefore the consent of all 100 senators to begin acting on any articles of impeachment during those sessions," the memo reads.
So what's causing this dramatic upswing? People being stupid over the holidays or the fast-breeding mutant version?
This is the start of the Christmas surge. This has been predicted by CDC for quite some time. So far, CDC predicted around 150k deaths in January - maybe it was up to 150k deaths rather than around, which is 5k deaths a day. So if anything, the numbers are less than previously predicted.

In other words, Trump will not be removed before inauguration day.“It would require the consent of all 100 senators to conduct any business of any kind during the scheduled pro forma sessions prior to January 19, and therefore the consent of all 100 senators to begin acting on any articles of impeachment during those sessions,"
