What was the point of shattering the helm of domination

The Jailer already had a plan set in motion.

According to Devos, "we would have never learnt of this calamity" had Uther just gotten rid (if he could have) of his memories, which means PRIOR to WOTLK, his plan was in motion.

Fast forward a few years and we land smack dab into Shadowlands.

But going through the storyline, Revendreth anima would have been forced into the Maw anyway. Denathrius and his plan for the drought would have happened anyway.

The only thing we have changed is stopping them.
(holy crap does this mean Sylvanas is a good person? /s)

Obviously, every thing that is imprisoned wants to break out. So the jailer having a plan is not the issue, thats normal. My point is. What the hell does the helm even do, besides taking Azerothian leaders hostage and getting the PC some sick ass loot?

The only thing the Jailer has really gained, is Anduin for a supposed weapon. but in the hell does a being that is so damn powerful that it takes 4 additional beings of similar power to keep chained away, NEED WITH ANDUIN.

like really, what if Garrosh, back in MoP thought, "no you little shit, breaking the bell on your ass is not enough" walks over and slams gorehowl into his head, what then? I mean hes going to break out anyway as per Denathrius and the machine of death being broken. So why break the helm in anticipation of making a weapon out of Anduin. And possible invite people like Gnomercy the fury warrior, xSephirothx the blood elf paladin and XLegolazX the night elf hunter into your house to farm purples. You are gonna break out anyway. Why add this variable?
Blood Elves were based on a STRONG request from a poll of Asian players where many remarked on the Horde side that they and their girlfriends wanted a non-creepy femme race to play (Source)

Breaking the helm was what made the rift and allowed access. It's bloody obvious why the helm was broken, especially where it was broken.
    I was a Death's Demise.
Those were the good old days.

Man, the story in Shadowlands makes me very sad. It reads like an terrible fanfic, let me elaborate on that. It seems like WoW has been taken over by some people who are super jealous of the old Warcraft team, so they made an expansion that changes (or expands) everything for - in their opinion - better:

    1) Remember the scourge? They were cool, with their plagues and skeletons and necromancers and stuff. Well, in SL you meet the REAL source of necromantic magic, were the REAL power is. The things you've seen in the past are just pale imitations of our new faction.
    2) Remember how cool the Night Elves were? With their tree houses and forest buildings and nature powers? Well, in SL you meed the REAL source of this forest shit, were the REAL power is...
    3) Remember the Lich King? Well, in SL you meet the REAL power behind the Helm, this Jailer dude...

More examples can be found if you look hard enough. Of course that WoW story was never that great but making an expac with better, and stronger, and more important characters than the old ones we loved seems like a new low for the blizzard story team. Now we just need to wait for the Sylvanas redemption arc that will put the final nail in the coffin for the Warcraft lore.

Yes, lets ignore the giant hole in the sky connecting the Maw to Azeroth.

i addressed that. my point is why. it was done on the jailer's order, but honestly, why lol, Denathrius was going to siphon anima anyway. the machine of death was already broken. The drought was already in effect.

If anything we mucked his plan up by him having sylvanas break it.

The point was shattering the sky so the Maw could invade Azeroth.

I'm quite sure the next raid tier (9.1) will be on Azeroth, repelling the Scourge and Maw forces.

The breaking of the helm was to to open the path to Azeroth.

If Uther had done what he was supposed to, then Devos wouldn't have turned, and Bastion would just be suffering from the drought caused by the Arbiter being offline.

So the Jailer's plan is pretty straightforward: get Anima from Revendreth, get power, open door to Azeroth, kill Titan. But Uther was an opportunity to start corrupting Kyrian, and the drought probably hastened the Jailer's plan significantly because Argus's death tossing the arbiter offline gave all the souls to him.

So the players had some new nonsense to grind.

yeah litterally this, it was shattered for a specific purpose.
in the necrolord campaign and well in the normal questlines we learn the jailor is trying to escape the maw, so the shattering is likely so once he escapes he can make all realms his.

My current guess is the Jailer wanted to establish a connection to Azeroth so he could eventually claim its world-soul. Why would he want that? Well, his goal is not so much to escape the Maw as to undo the artificial order of the Shadowlands. Perhaps the power provided by the world-soul is sufficient to enable him to do just that.

Well assuming they needed to prod the 4 leaders for SOMETHING to figure out if any of them could be used, it makes sense they needed to breach the mortal realms to get them. Which they did immediately. Beyond that, we don't know yet. We don't know why the jailor sent Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination to Azeroth yet, or what the long game fully entails. But its safe to assume this expansion takes place in the end game of that plan.

Same thing with the IronHorde opening up the Dark portal, before they even had their own world conquered. It was a way for blizzard to get "our" attention and send us over.

Logically neither event makes any sense at when it happened. If Sylvanas didn't do that at that moment, the Jailer's plans would be moving along smoothly. But Blizzard can't "develop" a story if we're not present to see it.
That's why like in WoD, it made no sense at all to open the Dark Portal to Azeroth, alerting us of the Iron Horde, while the Iron Horde didn't even have the FrostWolves, Draenei, Arakkoa or Ogre territories conquered yet. But the moment we get there, all of those areas are now under attack by the Iron Horde. If they waited to invade Azeroth, they could have invaded with an even stronger force and we would never have stood a chance if we made it to Draenor.

I am sure the tear in the Veil above IceCrown will play a roll later, like final raid will have the Jailer just come through and we have to fight him on Azeroth or something like that, but for now it serves no point.

When you think about it, she has been apart of the Horde for all of these major world ending events before and she's obviously aware that the baddies always mess up by getting our attention way before they really should have. She's supposed to be a tactical genius(characters can only be as smart as the writers and blizzard's aren't up there) so it would make sense that if she got wind of this enemy who was doing evil stuff in a realm that we couldn't go to, to then join them and expose them to us before they were ready. She does after all inquire about plans while Bolvar is spying on them, asking what their plan is to get Denathrius back, he says none and now we know to not worry about that. She is one who would recognize the presence of the Lich King watching her.

But that is way too clever for Blizzard. She despite being with the Horde for so long went and made the same mistake that many before her did

It was purely to start the expansion, it makes zero sense I agree. The anima flow to the Maw was already secured and it was only a matter of time before the Janitor would have enough power to break free.

To let the Mawsworn invade Azeroth? Kyrian already have the power to traverse between worlds. And even then, why? Why do you need them to invade Azeroth now other than conveniently give the sellswords excuse to attack you?

To be able to abduct Anduin and the cheerleaders? Again, why? Why not kill them and meet them in the Maw, the living will be none the wiser as to what happened to them. Do you need them alive? Why? Why do you need them at all? The Jailer was surprised when Anduin showed his big plot armor, not like he was expecting it. So his invasion plan rested upon the mere possibility of finding whatever it is that he wants in some random human.

Bad guys have always been retarded in WoW otherwise the good guys wouldn't be able to defeat them. Unfortunately we're past the unforgiveness of Warcraft 3.

The success of his whole, intricate plan spanning thousands of years relies on some small fry human baby. Bravo, Anduin is so special and awesome and important.

And we know very little about that plan, so you're pretty much flailing around in the dark here. We need more information on what he's even trying to achieve beyond the vague end goal to have any useful discussion about this.
