The point of the joke that went over your head is that intensely paranoid doomsday preppers wasting so much money stockpiling guns would probably be dangerously out of touch with reality, such that they would think to prepare themselves for a hypothetical apocalypse by stocking nothing but firearms and yet forget a far more simple implement like a shovel to deal with the much more real possibility of encountering snow.

The joke that went over your head is doomsday preppers don't buy 37 machine guns. Very few even have one. They are INSAINLY expensive. They do, however, usually have a full pioneer kit.

The general impression of doomsday preppers by society is that they are a bunch of loons and nuts more focused on their fears of some improbable apocalypse than practical matters that would ever actually be on hand, actively inconveniencing themselves for fear of some vague unknown future based on a scared, largely poorly educated and myopic view of the future and the world in general. The ultimate irony, of course, being that their preparations in the event of an actual apocalypse probably wouldn't save them.

Hence the aforementioned joke implying that they would go out of their way to do something vastly impractical like buy a buttload of guns while eschewing something common sense like owning a shovel, the former being completely effing useless in clearing a driveway of snow or keeping them warm.

Do you need a simple joke explained to you this many times?

Do you think people watch doomsday preppers and similar shows looking for instruction, and not realize that it's a show that people watch out of morbid curiosity for the freak show factor?

So the joke is you don't understand them so all you can think to do is make fun of them and/or make statements so stupid only the stupid find them funny?

Just an FYI, firearms only make up a small part of a prepper's kit, and I am willing to bet the average prepper could survive weeks longer than you no matter the disaster.

So to sum it up... yes, clearly, you missed the joke.

Because it was so asininely stupid it failed to qualify as a joke.

What joke? You just came in here and started mansplaining about preppers because you didn't like that we were making fun of them for being right wing loons. Lol.

No hun, the joke is that preppers have no self awareness because despite the claims of striving for self-sufficiency much of the movement is instead based on...well, manufacturers for products popular with preppers having found a neat way to monetize people's social anxieties by giving them a financial outlet. The humor arises from the juxtaposition between people making a fetish of their individualism while still throwing themselves headlong into a largely media-fueled fad that only ends up enriching the already wealthy while doing very little in the way of actual disaster preparation.

I.e. It's hipsterism, but for the right. That's why it's funny.

You're right. I should've just said it like it is.

Doomsday preppers are scared little crybabies who would lose their shit if they saw a black person anywhere near their property. In their fear, they forgot to buy a good quality snow shovel. Fear makes you do stupid things.

Calls for Texas governor to resign as he blames power outages on wind and solar

Texas is blessed with multiple sources of energy, such natural gas and oil and nuclear, as well as solar and wind," Gov. Greg Abbott said in an appearance on "Hannity" Tuesday night. "Our wind and our solar got shut down, and they were collectively more than 10% of our power grid. And that thrust Texas into a situation where it was lacking power in a statewide basis."

Abbott was far from the first Republican to deploy such blatantly false talking points in response to the ongoing crisis in Texas, which has left at least 10 people dead. But the governor's decision to appear on Fox News and attack a policy that has not even been implemented as Texans resorted to burning their belongings to keep their children warm was viewed as yet another example of his failed leadership.

Abbott is a notably two-faced crook.

To be fair, after publicly stroking themselves off over the power problems California was having because of its evil leftist globalist bird-murdering green energy agenda,* people like him really had no choice but to continue that narrative in this situation. Their hands were tied!

    *According to them, anyway.

    THAT DAMNED GREEN NEW DEAL

    That hasn't gone anywhere

And doesn't affect Texas' isolated power grid that they run themselves to avoid federal regulations

It's hard to avoid the conclusion that maybe some of the folks suffering made their own bed and are dealing with the consequences, while millions of others wanted more competent leaders.

Though seeing the prices folks were paying for power through some of the programs in TX like the one that let folks get power at wholesale prices...jesus, what did they expect when power was that dirt cheap? I feel bad for the folks that are seeing hundreds/thousands in electrical bill additions for A SINGLE DAY of use as wholesale prices skyrocket, but if you go with the riskier option because it's cheap when everything is working fine then you're risking huge bills when things go wrong.

The mainstream media is finally reporting the lies of republicans for what they are. We can thank Trump for that!

This over time will change public opinion in a major way.

Old way: republicans say stupid things. Media responds by trying to treat it as a serious comment, with the democrat response to it just being the "other side". This legitimized the republican lunacy.

New way: republicans say stupid things. Media responds by pointing out how much of a lie it is, adding supporting documentation as needed.

One of the current republican talking points is that the media is going easy on President Biden. Well, they are not calling President Biden a liar because he doesn't lie. They called Trump a liar because he lied many many times each day.

The media DOES try to parse the words of President Biden in ways that are unflattering to him. But they don't get much traction because they don't have much material to go on. For example, President Biden PROMISED we'd have schools open in 100 days, and it looks like it might not happen. "HE DOESN'T KEEP HIS WORD." Technically they may end up being accurate. But it sure isn't due to lack of trying. He IS making this a number 1 priority. And he'll come close to achieving this goal. This compares VERY favorably to the crap that Trump spewed out daily.
