Lesson #1 when dealing with contracts, its very risky to sign varriable allowances/rates/agreements.

Also its not ERCOT its the power companies and suppliers that jacked the rates and are billing Texans.

Its Texans who voted these people in and wanted degregulation.

Happened in the Northeast for a little bit too, people got crushed with huge increases then most of the states capped variable rate contracts.

There's very little we can do to stop millions of people from suffering. Even if the Federal government passes billions of dollars to Texas, then what? Can anyone here honestly say that they believe that money would go to help the struggling families that are hit hardest by something like this? Or is it going to go to bailing out the energy companies so that they can rebuild the infrastructure just as cheaply as they did last time, and when this happens again in a few years they'll just come back and demand another bailout? And again a few years after that? While fighting against any other state being helped?

If there was any chance that sending Texas money would actually fix anything, then by all means the country SHOULD band together to help fix it. But nothing the Texan politicans have said even suggest that they want it fixed. And why would they? If they get bailed out, every single person and company responsible for this failure will post a record profit. They'll be looking forward to the next time it happens.

These companies showed their incompetence. When our private power companies showed their shitty practice, we just bought them all and made one nationalized electricity. We pay less per kWh then Texas and its the same accross the board and also nearly 100% renewable energy now. Give them money and attach all the federal strings you can to force them to fix that shit. Can the US federal government actually put its god damn pants on when it matters? What are they afraid of? That the millions of people without power or water are gona turn on the federal government for overreach because it helped them survive, saved their houses etc? Its time to show people a state like texas is built on a fucking lie, as soon as something happen it turns into the third world and someone needs to save them in a matter of days, because their state sure fucking wont.

Just like that disgraced former mayor said, companies don't owe us anything, so will the republican run state legislation (they just won't say it aloud). There will be some lie about renewables, they'll pass along their grammatical error ridden meme about electric cars stuck in 3 hours of traffic and snow storms around social media and then go on about how a Green New Deal won't fix anything and Oil is King. They will then gladly accept a week without power to socialism and more govt control because conservatives are literally NPCs.

It's already happening, it's been like this a couple days already.

The Today Show has compiled a list of homeless shelters, food banks, and other Texas charities (plus staples like the Red Cross) for how you can help.

I've heard good things about the North Texas Food Bank from a local.

    If you can help, do.

And this is why privatizing critical infrastructure into the hands of capitalists is just a metrically fucking stupid idea.

Another thing for TX to consider in addition to winterizing their system is their energy efficiency which is pretty lousy. During the heat wave when CA had the rolling blackout, with every single AC units in CA running full blast, CA energy demand peaked at 46MW. Before the blackout in TX, the energy demand was in excess of 70 MW. Keep in mind the median home age in CA is 41 years vs. TX which is 29 years. The are also around 4 million more households in CA, and while cooling is almost 100% electric, heating is split between gas and electric.

AOC raising 2 million practically overnight for Texas relief. Love to see it.

I remain deeply amused that politicians in other states, and former politicians not even currently in office or a position of authority/power, appear to be doing more than many of the elected representatives and leaders in Texas.

Like, holy fuck our expectations were fuckin low but god fuckin damn, man.

The irony of using ActBlue to raise fund for TX. Ted Cruz must be cutting himself right now.

This is a price Ted Cruz was willing to pay to keep the federal government off his back.

I mean, the price of the plane tickets to Cancun and a weeks stay at the Ritz. Not losing power for a week, having your pipes burst, waiting in hours-long lines for groceries, melting snow so you can flush your toilet etc. etc. etc.

He's not willing to pay that price. Just the air/hotel fare.

Poor Ted Cruz dog. My wife, a former vet whom the FBI has a file on from her PETA days in college, had some choice words for him.

Sounds like another great reason for dirt bags like Elon Musk to move to Texas. Also didn't a shit load of Texans laugh and celebrate when they were making jokes about Californians in national crises?

Well whatever, honestly this sounds horrific and I do hope the people of Texas get relief and stay safe.
