Servers when moving from classic into TBC

    Hey guys.

We are a few friends who want to play together in tbc classic but we are unsure how the transfer from classic into tbc will be.

Will we pick a new server to transfer to from classic into tbc or will we remain on our current classic realm, and then the realm moves into tbc?

The reason i am asking is that we have characters on different realms atm and we want to know if we are able to move them to the same tbc realm

The realms that exist now will be duplicated, one version of the realms will be tbc and the other version will be vanilla. When pre-patch hits, you choose on which version you want to continue or pay and play on both.

If you are on different realms, you'll likely have to pay for transfers so that you all can be on the same realm.

I dont think thats the case. All existing servers will go to TBC. If you wish a certain character to stay in Classic forever he will transfer to a new "classic era" server.

At least thats what I took from blizzconline. Maybe someoneelse can confirm/deny.

The night before TBC pre-patch Blizzard will take realms down and take a "snapshot" of everyones accounts, when you log on the next time and select a character in your realm character screen you’ll get a message box that offers you two (three) paths to go.
    1. Enter the game on pre-patch state and later enter TBC.
    2. Enter the game on a "forever classic" state.
    3. Go to your account overview on battle.net where you can pay to have both options. Note that this option is removed if you picked 1 or 2 first.

There are no new realms, free character transfers or anything like that.
If you played on Noggenfogger, EU, before the pre-patch you’ll play on Noggenfogger, EU, after the pre-patch.
As mentioned Blizzard took a "snapshot" before the pre-patch goes live, with that snapshot they create a copy of every single realm and character. So if you chose to go "forever Classic" you’ll still be on the same realm, same guild, same friendslist and everything else will be identical to what it was the day before ...apart from 90% of players will be gone to TBC route.

    To answer your question.
If you and others want to play together in TBC, or "forever Classic", you’ll still have to pay for a character transfer before/after the TBC pre-patch.
Further down the line (in both versions) Blizzard might open free migrations (character transfers) if realm populations are too big, or too small, but that’s a complete unknown right now.
If you and your friends wish to play together you need to pay for character transfers or wait and hope for free character transfers later, or pay for a character boost to lvl 58 on the same realm.
