    What Generation are you?

I am Generation X. The Middle Generation. The MTV Generation. When MTV was good. When MTV was about the music. (not reality tv b.s.)

And what signature thing, iconic thing would you say about your generation?

Generation X was the Rise of the Personal Computer. "Where every home had a computer" was my generation. I remember my dad using his IBM Personal Computer (in the 1980s) and Compaq Computer with a CD-ROM (in the 1990s).

And if you are before Baby Boomer, damn you really old baby! How did you manage to make it to this thread? (only kidding of course)

    ---

We were the the latch-key kids.

A latchkey child is a child who returns to an empty home after school or a child who is often left at home with no supervision because his or her parents are away at work.

Both my parents worked. In a time when both parents had to work. So I had a key to the house when I was growing up in elementary/middle/high school.

    ---

President Reagan was on my tv.

I love this video and thank BuzzFeed for making this video. It really describes each generation well.

In the end, your generation does not ultimately define you, but how you interpret your unique place within it.

Gen X. The one they always forget when Boomers and Millenials clash.

Doesn't even have proper generation names. They are called zoomers and they ruin everything.

Gen Xers wanting desperately to be "cool", is the most Boomer thing ever.

Millennial. Generational cohorts can be a useful concept but it usually devolves into tribalism where each group says "cohort X ruined society and is causing my problems".

I'm born in 81', but I also have the experiences of GenX. Which is why have not agreed with 81' being a Millennial.

Wait, I remember MTV when it was cool too. And I remember Pop-Up Video on VH1. How am I a Gen Y and not Gen X? This is just weird.

It’s because the definition here is a bit off. It’s fine if you’re close enough.

Remember in the OP X covers the span of 20 years while millennials covers only 15.

80’s and 90’s were my childhood and teenage years. I’m 78 and class of 97 ffs. This I don’t identify with any millennials.

Boomers derived from after ww2 which would begin 45 to 50s and span 15 to 20 years thus the boom in child birth. So there’s overlap.

    Born in 1987.

By some definitions, the tail end of X, by others, the beginning of Millennial.

Old enough to remember "fuck around", young enough to have to deal with "find out".

Not sure about geographical differences, but the whole MTV thing seems more like a 90s thing than 80s.

Generally you hear grandma or grandpa say "those darn kids these days" which has been continuously expressed throughout time.
