The reason progressive candidates struggle is for no other reason then the Dem power structure, saying they will struggle and acting as such. Dems still think we are in the midst of a 10 year ago, less polarized political climate and the steadfastly refuse to change their strategy. Centrists are not the answer, because the Repairs are going further and further right because there is no equal force pulling them back.

In tug of war, if both sides are equally strong, but the right side pulls with a 100% power towards the right and the left side decides to not commit fully to pulling to the left they will lose ground as the center marker on the rope will move more towards the right. This is not different politically.

The issue isn't if they go low you go high, the issue is if they go super right, you go super left....that's how create a centrist government.
Literally every centrist country in Europe has far left parties that help draw politics where they need to go. America just says nah...

Hey! Did everyone see the vid of Krysten Sinema vote on the minimum wage?

She basically went up and gave "thumbs down" with a little dip and an almost "eff this bill" attitude. Effin Dems!

Basically see it at 10 second mark.
Democrats are the best! I will never ever question a Democrat again. I LOVE the Democrats!

We're a decade at least from any progress. Joe doesn't like progressive policies, the dems are going to squander what they have and we'll get another GOP shitheel in for a few years.

By then I imagine people calling the US a third world country will actually be seen as serious rather than doom sayers.

Either way I imagine I'll either be dead or homeless by then. No job prospects where I live, and no funds to move. Minimum wage hike was the only hope i had and now its clear it'll years before we even think about it again.

So, dems are pretty much going to lose ground in the next two elections arent they? GOP is going to, successfully, run on a campaign of pointing out that the dems are disfunctional and do nothing. Dems will continue being spineless and roll over again. They'll lose more, GOP will gain some more control again. Likely in 8 years time they'll get another president and dominate the landscape for another 4.

Like is there any hope for progress right now? Or is it just going to be 4 years, likely 8, of politicians acting like nothing is wrong? Just years of Biden and the party playing fiddle as the nation burns about them?

The bill is still great even with the changes. We all knew that conservative dems were going to damage any legislation. Get ready for more because it's going to keep happening for the next two years at least.

This doesn't mean they are failing. It doesn't mean republicans are being handed huge wins in future elections. Things like minimum wage are important, but some folks, especially pundits who seems to get off on doom & gloom, are getting carried away and running around with their hair on fire.

After this bill passes it will help millions of people for the rest of the year. Dems will continue doing positive things, even if they don't include everything we all want. If you're someone that wants them to be more progressive then there's only one way that happens. Conservative dems have to be replaced with more progressive ones and/or a lot more dems have to win.

Just go ahead and accept the reality of what's happening now because it isn't going away until at least 2023. Otherwise you'll drive yourself insane in the meantime.

I am confuse. People in thread saying the bill needs 60 votes so it doesn't matter that the Dems can't whip their party effectively yet Trump managed to pass anything he wanted with 51 votes.

    What am I missing?

The fact that he didn't pass much at all. He did sign a lot of executive orders however.

Trump did executive orders and judges which is a 50 + 1 type of thing. Nothing that required congress and senate power

The fillibuster means that nothing meaningful will come out of the legislative as long as one party arent acting like partisan hacks (tje gop)

Damn, that is some strong Girlboss energy. I love equally how her press secretary defended her, proving for the 20,000th time how effortlessly that idpol jargon can be used by its real masters. Krysten Sinema is the future of the DNC. She is what the party aspires to be in every way and will be what is vociferously supported every two years, even by people who momentarily don't like her.

The only major legislation that was passed was the Tax Cut bill and that was only because the donors were literally about to pull all their funding for 2018 (no joke that is the only reason and why it was so rushed it needed an errata list because it was so hastily drafted).

The rest of the time was spent on the Republicans outsourcing their legislative responsibilities to the judicial branch by appointing judges basically stolen from Obama. Note the lack of legislation by Republicans isn't a bug but a feature which is why they spent so much time and political capital on judicial nominees. Republicans believe outside of tax cuts and deregulation there should be basically no government interference, but that is not popular, so better to spend more time to have people who can strike down government action, has a lifetime appointment and can't be recalled by voters.

This is what happens when you elect people who don't believe in government to the government...

Get ready mate, you all will fall in line, Vote Blue no Matter Who and forgive her in about five minutes, Sen. Sinema is the baseline normal Democrat.

When she is up for re-election you'll be backing her, so will everyone criticizing her.

Plus as we learned; its sexist to criticize her:

For about the next 8-10 or so years but once the boomers start to come the end of their natural lifespan things are going to snap back dramatically. The reason we are so far to the right is because money is power in politics and most of the money is in the hands of the oldest generation who still has a Reagan/Cold War mindset.

What does "Overemphasis" even mean, how would you quantify that?

The fact that she basically looked, and acted, as a villain from that Hunger Games movie is mostly what people comment on. But hey, she is the future of the DNC.
