    Crane ships exist.

Look up Sleipnir and Thialf or the Saipem 7000.

Tho probably smaller crane ships would suffice anyway as they won't need heavy load cranes for removing containers.

Tho if it's that badly lodged, it's kinda fucked because getting enough crane capacity in place, plus actually unloading the ship will probably take weeks.

They'll most likely build a couple ramps near the rear and start sliding boxes off the top of the rear stack, just need some earth movers to make the ramp and some cables to yank containers with,Egypt isn't going to give a shit if the contents are intact or not.

I see, that will suck if they end up damaging $50 million in container goods by doing that but the thing is if they're holding up 50 ships per day for more than a week then that could end up costing everybody else $50 million in lost time and opportunity. So it might be a good idea to just accept those damages even from a non-Egyptian perspective. It depends on what the Evergreen is carrying though.

    Doubtful.

That's a lot of earthworks. Would literally take longer to pull off than just waiting for a couple of crane ships.

Those cargo ships are the height of 10+ floor building, higher when loaded and about 400m long. Moving around the containers like that is a massive structural hazard with other words, you can make it worse.

Again just digging the ship out is probably the fastest and easiest way to deal with this.

Nobody gives a flying fuck about the cargo at this junction. In a few days worth of delays the cost of the delays itself will exceed the monetary value of the whole ship+cargo.

Just an example of the effect of this - every day 600k barrels of oil are shipped through the Suez from the middle east to Europe. The day after this happened oil spiked almost 5%.

Apparently they were able to route some traffic through an older side channel. It's interesting to see how they deal with this. I always wondered what would happen if the channel got blocked. What happened during the war with Israel? Surely the channel was blocked then, too. Considerate of the Israelis to end the war after 6 days, if you think about it.

I'm kinda hoping someone goes over to that one sand bank and writes, "I'm the captain now."

Then hand that person an Oscar.

Ye, non of those seems like a viable solution, it would prolly take weeks to haul any crane down there in the first place, and in that time im sure its already fixed, or i hope so, cuz i want my damn thing i ordered some weeks ago.

Pirates. They have to deal with heavily pirated water by going around Africa.

Uhm. No. Actually going around Africa is the safer route from piracy.

    A quick geography reminder.

The piracy issues are most prominent in the Gulf Aden. The Gulf of Aden is the bit connecting the Arabian Sea to the Indian Ocean.

The Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean with the Arabian Sea.

Pirates have in the past ranged into the Indian Ocean somewhat, but to a much lesser degree than inside the Gulf of Aden.

If you circumnavigate Africa, and don't specifically need to get near the Horn or Yemen you can sail away from the coast and out of pirate range.

On the other hand shipping crossing the Suez Canal has no choice but sailing cross the Gulf of Aden and between Yemen and Somalia to exit into the Indian Ocean, and the same for shipping trying to enter the Arabian Sea from the Indian Ocean.

It took longer for the ship than for the beaver, but now Ever Given is also refloated and have started the engines and will soon be moved to the Great Lakes area they say.

Faster to go from eu to china by the northern sea route, and no pirates.

Quite contrary, it is important for them to be intact to build a proper pyramid

whelp looks like the high tide and a lot of digging/dredging got the job done. They got the stern free yesterday and looks like they got the bow unstuck today and it is proceeding down the canal. I am guessing there are a lot of sailors in the huge pack of queued ships that are happy that there is some light at the end of the tunnel now but its still going to be a week or more until the backlog fully clears.

they would be better off building a second canal

its actually much wider than you think

could fit at least two ships at a time if you had too. just not sideways

True, and they actually widened it recently so that they can and do fit two ships at a time (going in different directions).

It seems most ships that have problems to fit is due to the vertical direction: both depth and height.
