depends on the cooler. some make use of the original backplate, some do not. Regardless, if a new cooler does not use original backplate it will come with the one it needs

Its hot but not danger hot. I would suggest your next upgrade be a better cooler but it isn't like you need to leave it off or play no games until that time can arise.

Also backplates are individual cases. Some use the OG, others require a new one, probably wouldn't be to hard to find out which if you look close.

Unless it's throttling or shutting down the temps are fine. It sounds more like they are not where you want them though, which is a whole different matter.

I'm looking to get this one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/arcti...hs-074-ar.html

On here around 2:00 he suggests that it's the stock backplate for AMD CPUs, the cooler also doesn't come with one.

You'll need to fit the AM4 mounting bracket and take off the plastic mounts for the cooler from your motherboard but it screws right into the MB's backplate.

There are instructions on Arctic's website.

    Thanks for that.

Forgive my ignorance and stupidity for needing an idiots guide, but that means that since I currently have the AMD stock cooler fitted that I can simply put it straight on with the instructions provided and not have to mess with the backplate of the motherboard?

Unfortunately not, there are plastic mounts that the stock cooler attaches to which are screwed into the MB's backplate, they will need to removed (don't lose the screws in case you decide to change coolers later), you then screw the Arctic mounting standoffs into the MB's backplate and attach the cooler to the standoffs.

There's also a video on Arctic's site showing you exactly what you need to do.

I know you weren’t really asking this question, but if you don’t mind the look of the size (it’s big) and you have another 40-50ish dollars to drop, I would recommend the noctua nh-d15. It comes with any backplate you’ll ever need when you order it including the am4 slot and it keeps your cpu just as cool if not cooler than any high end Aio cooler.

I will say it is REALLY big tho so if you do look into it, make sure it is going to fit.

That's a fine temp with the stock cooler. If you feel fancy you can buy a bigger cooler, like a cooler master hyper 212 black edition or the arctic freezer 34 esports duo. These are some "cheap" solutions which will provide some better results. Of course you can pay even more to get even better results.

That's what I was trying to get at, that I don't have to remove the whole backplate itself and install a new one xD

Thanks for the information and video, looks very straight forward and simple. I think that's the one I will get soonish and maybe another case fan for good measure.

Thanks all for the help and tips!
