Republicans are great at hyperbole, projection and fear tactics. Yet, no doubt that Republicans Do Not want fair elections anymore.
Democrats are the best! I will never ever question a Democrat again. I LOVE the Democrats!

They are doing this because they know that they won’t get control again otherwise as their base is dying out and the rest increasingly against their stuff.

If they get control and start their stuff, get prepared for violence not seen in over a century on our soil in the coming years if Americans actually want democracy and get ready to see us collapse economically due to their stuff if we don’t.

"This is really the fallout from the 10 weeks of misinformation that flew in from former President Donald Trump," Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan said on CNN's "New Day." "I went back over the weekend to really look at where this really started to gain momentum in the legislature, and it was when Rudy Giuliani showed up in a couple of committee rooms and spent hours spreading misinformation and sowing doubt across, you know, hours of testimony."
So...this law is literally based off the insane fictional conspiracies of a demented old man. At least it makes more sense now.

I'd love for a deeper investigation/questioning of this. Because they neglected to overturn Biden's win in the state, which that's one heck of a thing to go to Georgia and tell the state legislators that they had a fraudulent election (basically saying that they are incompetent), and secondly why not overturn it, if they seem so adamant that voting is so easily affected by outside forces or to change with voter fraud? Were they aware of just how much of a shit show that'd turn up against them, be it right or wrong, or were they genuinely not in the belief that their election was in anyway swayed by outside forces? If the latter, then why this law?

It is all just bad upon bad, and there isn't any good answer out of this shit. Granted that seems to not stop them from doing these kinds of things...

Interesting that the Lieutenant Governor of Georgia is saying these laws are because of fraud allegations, but Kemp says that it's not about fraud.

Exact same arguments and reasoning used by opponents of the civil rights act and every other legislation/movement prior that gave groups of people a voice that weren't white men.

Was really common over a hundred years ago to hear, "Why should women vote? They don't understand or even care about politics" and "They'll vote because of <insert stupid reason here>"

It's 100% clear that republicans would love to prevent millions of people from voting because they think they'll vote for a democrat. Has nothing to do with anything else. That's the reason.

Having integrity in elections is not a bad thing, but the main thrust is that the public has to have faith in the integrity of elections. The Georgia law is an attempt to make theirs beyond reproach. Not unreasonable given the 2020 election cycle. Access is also expanded with more early voting and allowing more people to request absentee ballots.

We can debate specifics all day long, we should in fact. But this law being labeled Jim Crow is honestly pretty offensive. Like Trump too many criticisms I’ve seen of this law have a tenuous relationship with the truth at best. I’m looking at you Biden.
These new laws lack so much integrity that the Governor and Lieutenant Governor can't even agree on why they were created in the first place. In fact the Lieutenant Governor says the new laws were created because of the lies Giuliani was spreading.

Evidently Joe Machin is talking about refusing to budge on the filibuster to remove or even amend it even over HR1.

Talking about some return to bipartisanship or some crap like he has been in a coma the last 20 years or something

I'm certain he's more concerned about his own seat than anything else. Dude's a Dem in a big red state and probably doesn't want angry republicans voting him out of office over allowing the 'Radical Democratic Agenda!!' to move forward unimpeded. So he'll either pull a Collins by putting up a show of 'fighting the Liberals' and eventually reach a 'compromise', or he'll hold this shit up until 2022 and go back to not having any political responsibilities as a member of the minority party (assuming Reds take the senate because of the Democrats being unable too do anything and/or their own draconian voting laws stamping out Blue votes in purple-leaning states).

REALLY hope its the former. HR1 NEEDS to pass before the districts are redrawn next year or it is allow them to continue that fuckery for at least the next decade while they have all that time to try and undo it. Otherwise it would need to pass with a stipulation of ANOTHER redistricting in an off year which would make it even harder to get through.

It's not "at least the next decade"...if this doesn't get done before next year then the US will make an unstoppable transition to dictatorship in 2025, and it won't be going back again without another civil war.

Since we're on the subject of Joe Manchin: Manchin says 'January 6 changed me' as he calls for bipartisan cooperation

Sure Manchin, let's keep compromising with the political party that spread lies about the election that ended up riling up their supporters to the point they started a violent riot at the US Capital and then are now using those same election lies as justification for passing these new restrictive voting rules.

Related: the Texas GOP are asking for white volunteers to go watch the polls at a predominantly African-American church, to deal with the massive voter fraud.

    No, really.

This is where the fraud is occurring

Just sprinkle the occasional roadblock, so that whenever someone tried to call you out on it, you could just point towards that as an example that it is not true, and that there is no targeting going on, it is clean across the board.

They don't really have the capacity for subtlty, or the time for it when the political winds are so set against them.

That, and they learned that any minor inconvenience towards their own base riles them up something fierce. So making things harder for their people to vote would just incite temper tantrums that would ultimately work against their goal

That could be a possibility as well. That or they are aware of just how heinous their acts are, and even the slightest exposure to it, could turn their own base around and actually support removing it, because they've now themselves been exposed to it.

Or if it was implemented across the board, it would have equal effect, which means they'd be back at zero of losing on attracting votes.

God damn is he a piece of shit. "Jan 6th really opened my eyes that Democrats need to bend over backwards so far that our heads poke out through our legs to appease the party that fueled a insurrectionist attack on our countries capitol. It's not like the GOP didn't push their crazies into a frenzy for months how we are going to steal the election. So unless we give in to the terrorist demands the terrorists might do bad things. Isn't that what they do in all the action movies?"

Yeah pretty much. They really can't work the strategically targeted suppression angle without just fucking themselves so they just do overt shit and hope its legal enough to get away with for long enough to be difficult to remove.

Man that sounds a lot like Koko's old 'C'mon guys, if we don't capitulate to violent racists indoctrinated by decades of propaganda then they'll just pick up all their guns and kill everyone!' posts.
