except we dont actually know how long it will take as we dont know if they are updating renown in 9.1 to give us more sources.
That's fair but knowing Blizz it's hard to imagine they'd add 40 renown levels only for us to blow through it in a month. We would have to get 7 levels a week for it to be 3 weeks which is still longer than previous Pathfinders. I was caught up in BFA and Legion but in WoD I had to do the full grind and it still was only 3 weeks for me to unlock it. It would actually have to be 10 levels for us to get it in the same timeframe as other Pathfinders were.
Hell the first 40 renown gave us 3 a week with the campaign quest but then once that was done they LOWERED it to 2 a week with the souls and 1k anima weekly quest. You really think Blizz isn't gonna try to milk the player base with renown again?
I'd expect a similar system for the next 40. MAYBE they look at their internal numbers and throw us a bone giving us 4 a week but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Spoken as a true "did not play legion" player. Or you are joking? Can't tell.
Took few hours to catch up in 7.1.5, wtf are you on about? (I am sorry, few days then for a new playerm but much closer to few hours than 2 months because AK catch up being powerful started then) Remember 7.2? Took 1 hour to get into conclave traits. Sorry, rephrasing that, 2 emissaries. So varied from 20 mins to 60 minutes, my bad.
MMO posters at it's best. Catch up in Legion from 7.1.5 was easy as fuck, and anyone who played then knows this.
OT: If I was a new WoW player I would dive into it. When I came back for a while in 8.1.5, I did everything that I had missed the few months. With seasonal play like WoW is now, catching up to anything is quick.

The catch up to AP 54 in 7.1.5 was not "a few hours." Best case scenario you could exchange Order Hall resources for AK 15 (2850%) but you were still required to wait out the time gate on your second Legiondary (on top of, you know, actually getting two Legiondaries) and grind 65,256,330 fucking AP to hit the 54th trait. So please, tell me more about an expansion I clearly didn't play.
They'll probably create a new "renown token" that will increase your renown by 5 or something, up to renown 40.
Yeah you clearly did not seeing you say 2 months. So who the fuck is best then of me and you? Few hours was a lot closer than 2 fucking months. I might have had "alt" in mind when I first wrote, but a new player would have 15 AK fast which would give the base traits very fast.
Didn't you get "burned" out in Legion? So you clearly didn't play it all? And clearly, saying 2 months(it would take fully 4 weeks to get 25 AK with the catch up, and if it took that long to get to max traits, then you were doing something very wrong) you are clearly misremembering how it was. So yeah, lets go on about an expansion you clearly didn't play I guess.

Maintaining or increasing MAUs requires player engagement. If someone only logs in for one minute a month they probably won't stay subscribed in the next month.
All "games as a service" utilize various methods to drive engagement, usually in the form of login rewards and daily or weekly tasks, and repeatable content in general (be it reputation grinds, renown grinds, gear grinds, or whatever).
they readded bonusrolls and maybe ilvl tf too soon?
Is it possible that Blizzard will find a way to fuck this up? Yes.
Is it possible that Blizzard does a great job with 9.1? Also yes.
Is there any way that anyone in this thread has any idea which of those extremes, or where in-between, Blizzard's performance will be for 9.1? Not a chance.
You guys are arguing about assumptions about things you cannot know. It's hilarious but sad.
And you have yet to qualify how a new player in 7.1.5 would use 2 months on it as well. And I did change my original post before you posted, because if you can be fucking hyperbolic, so can I.
And we were talking about AP. But if you want to move goalpost, let's add that getting two legendaries would take 2 weeks with normal play in 7.1.5, thats also how long it took to upgrade the order hall upgrades in 7.1.5. If you didn't stand idling in Dalaran for those weeks.
