Anyone else just switch off the news lately?

I'm so sick of the news the last few months.

All I ever seem see is either Harry / Meghan and the Royal Family, or "something something white people bad because racism".

Switched off all my news feeds yesterday as i just can't take anymore of the same old garbage.

Anyone else feel like this lately?

Yes every time I’m at work on my break I switch the break room tv from the news to either the cooking or sci-fi channel.

Switched off the news awhile ago and I am happy I did, along with it I use 0 social media. Everything these days is just nothing but people being negative /butthurt about something.

I don't read general news, but focused sub-sections like science, video games, movies, Tesla etc. Big events usually find their way to my awareness by other means anyway.
Now you see it. Now you don't.

    But was where Dalaran?

Nope. I don't mind watching RT.

Nah I've never watched TV news and for my online news I only choose articles with topics that interest me. Google uses my internet data to give me personal recommendations and it seems to work okay.

Yes the news is heavily biased towards bad news which is why there's a lot of people who wrongly believe the world is falling a part and that we're living in a bad era.

yeah turned it off a few months back. I figure if anything major happens I'll get notified via phone, Facebook, or other means.

Yes really, i live in europe and the "national tv news" used to be one of the things where you could get informed. Since last march the news consist only of Covid-19 talk. Not even really some useful information, just blablabla...it seemed like the rest of the world stopped to exist.
There was once a short break, when the U.S. elections were back in november. But thats it...since one year useless Covid-19 news.

    Nopes, just in; news of a shooting at a FedEx plant, 8 dead... typical stuff from the US. On Irish news websites... you'd think we were living in the US with the amount of news centered around the USA... -.-;

I stopped watching all news and current affairs shows probably a little under a year ago. Deleted most of my social media too. Denzel explains it all better than I could

Reality can be harsh, sorry that you can't handle it.

That's the opposite if what I'm saying. Reality isn't harsh in the First World but based on the news you would think everything is harsh and terrible. If you want to model reality you're better off looking at the overall data instead of watching the news which is largely just about selecting the worst things that have been happening in the last 24 hours.

yes but watching "the news" is the same stories over and over and over and generally negative stories get more air time due to ratings. so turn it off and get critical stuff other ways via other comms

Turning off the news and not constantly digesting negativity spoon fed you is fine. The news often makes thinks seem bigger or urgent than what they are in the grand scheme of the entire world. Burying your head in the sand because you can't cope, deal, process information in a healthy way is dumb and how you end up on a Q board.

If all you ever see is the British royal family or "blah blah racism" on the news sources you watch, the issue is you and what you are choosing to watch.

Turns out the world exists of more than just Europe, who knew? And yeah, ignoring the harsh reality a lot of people have to deal with, even in rich countries, is not helping your argument.

News are news, I prefer to know what's up and my feels aren't hurt if I read something I don't like/care about.

Like if I go to BBC, it is inevitable there will be a weekly "Meghan and Harry did this thing" spot and/or SJW gonna SJW spot, but then you can just read the title and decide to skip ahead - my psyche does not blow up over seeing titles I don't care about.

Besides, if you want pure news without bullshit - you go to Reuters anyway.

I rather read a book or an actual detailed article than watch the news, what is mostly outrage porn.

Small condensed events that often if not always don't paint a complete picture as the format doesn't allow for it. The events taken are also almost always negative and generally extremes so they make you believe things are generally worse off than they are. The nocebo effect is a real thing so if people declare they feel better after they stopped watching the news i can completely get that.

Not to mention nowadays a third of the time block gets consumed by corona news, which i couldn't care less about.

If we are speaking of cable news, i do watch broadcasts that go in deeper on the current affairs. Social media news is even worse with the exception of Rising with crystal and saagar who try to bring something balanced. Probably more gems out there on the web but most of it is entertainment and not there to inform you correctly (Joe Rogan podcasts for example)
“My philosophy is: It’s none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes life so much easier.

You do realise that RT is a propaganda machine for Russia/Putin? (if you mean Russia Today)

I try to never pay too much attention to it. I watch the Bill Maher show every week they have a new episode and the daily show because I might learn something and it might be funny. If some major event happened, I might tune into CNN and see what is going on. Sometimes I read articles or watch videos on the internet about topics. I try to get a consensus to see what I believe about something.
