Why would the EU comment when this is a purely national sports affaire?
And if they commented wouldnt you be in here talking about how its not the EU's business?
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

That, ladies and gentlemen, was one of the finest examples of the power of sovereignty only returned to the UK thanks to Brexit. It didn't matter if you were a dollar or ruble billionaire, British sovereignty won the day saving European football from pillage for generations to come.

A continent, no the world, of football fans this morning should wake grateful for Brexit. I'm sure UK football fans in those red wall ex-Labour northern seats will show their appreciation to our Boris securing his victory and the future of Brexit once again at the next general election.

Happy days this morning here in the sunny uplands.
You usually need to tune into the North Korean state television to hear such ridiculous attributions to ones political leader.

The reaction of the fans does nothing against the power of money.. You mean the fans who'd have to pay to watch it, and buy memorabilia? Those fans?

The fans that literally pay for the wages of everyone with a job in or related to football? Those fans?

You're saying that those fans opinions didn't matter? Now I don't want to insult you too much, but that is the single most stupid thing I've read all year.

It being shut down has nothing to do with Brexit, and everything to do with the massive shitstorm that the fans put up on basically every social media

So you’d rather have a crappy british football team than a competitive diverse one. Yea that about alligns with the racists brexit mentality.
As much as it pains me, he's right. This is the first actual positive, the FA can now implement a foreing player rule for EU players like we had in the old days. 3 Foreign players per team, regardless of them being EU or non-EU nationals. That would be good for English football, because finally the youth system would get the focus it needs. That would be good for local talents and the NT might actually be worth a shit in the future.

Don't get ahead of yourself there, buddy. It was the FANS that stopped the ESL. Not Brexit. The ESL is dead, all but Madrid and Juve have dropped out, the EU didn't even make a statement on the issue as far as I'm aware. They didn't have to. That the UK Government is getting involved is not the solution, the FA has to control this. 50+1 in Germany did more to prevent them from joining than the sovereignity of the UK did. There's a reason why all German top teams declined immediately. PSG as well.

Those oligarchs are a British product mostly. Brexit didn't make them go away, Brexit did nothing to enable or hinder this situation from happening. It's a sports thing, not a political thing. The UK would have had the same situation if it had stayed in the EU. NOTHING about this has anything to do with Brexit, except the one thing that I pointed out already, the UK can now limit the number of foreign players per team, because that is impossible under EU labor law. EU players have to be treated equally. Now, EU countries still have limitations on non-EU players, but how many people from Brazil do you want to hire for a top tier football team?

Or we might have to point out that Boris, Nigel Farage, Jacob Rees-Moog and Rupert Murdoch are all oligarchs who specifically profited from Brexit.

From what i can tell English football was sold out in 1992 with the formation of the Premier League

If interested use titles below in youtube search.

"FANS DID NOT WIN!" John Barnes insists football fans had NOTHING to do with Super League collapse"

"Why Did The Premier League Break Away From The Football League in 1992?"

English fans lost out ages ago unless you supported teams that brought in the money back then and saw the potential for more with introduction of the premier league.

Second and third division teams lost out and did not have enough supporters to kick up a big enough fuss to stop it.

Not a football fan by the way.

At this point I think this thread can be closed. There is a grace period for some custom declarations and RoO declarations until July, but Brexit is done. We can keep sharing anecdotes forever but what's done is done. We don't need to hold a pissing contest anymore.

Nope, fuck that. We've started Brexit, now we get to keep this thread open and see the "benefits" roll in. We document every single thing that happens because of this stupid decision, and if any of the cheerleaders dare to show their face in this thread again we get to point and laugh. If we let these fucking idiots get away with doing this without consequences, who knows what batshit insane fucking idiot idea they'll come up with next.

They get to own this, and we get to remind them of that.

    Since Brexit, United Kingdom has

    - the best Covid vaccination programme in the World
    - border immigration controls
    - best furlough programme in the World
    - house prices that continue to increase at rapid pace
    - no EU overlords breathing down our necks

I'm more than happy to take ownership for it. My life got much better thanks.

Keeping this thread open is amazing because we get to see massive egg on face to all the left wing economists who predicted Brexit would bring doom, gloom and the financial collapse that never happened.

United Arab Emirates is also ahead of the uk; both in terms of doses in general and first dose.

If we only look at doses in total then Chile, Bahrain, Malta, and very soon the United States are also ahead of the uk.

It's just that Chile seems to have chosen a bad vaccine; whereas the side-effects from the Astra-Zeneca vaccine was discovered by EU-countries long before the uk found it, and then grudgingly changed the policy to add an age-limit on that vaccine.

Seems premature especially as the EU-uk trade and cooperation agreement has yet to be ratified by both parties; we will see what happens the coming week.

Maybe because the EU respects private property? Well, I'm glad that you are on board with full socialism now, as you seem to be a fan of governments meddling in private business decisions.

(and no, i'm not a fan of this league (though tbh. i don't really care about football) but that's the consequence of capitalism)

And no, i don't get the outrage now - because it isn't much different than champions league - and that's okay? Spare me the moral outrage..

FOMO: "Fear Of Missing Out", also commonly known as people with a mental issue of managing time and activities, many expecting others to fit into their schedule so they don't miss out on things to come. If FOMO becomes a problem for you, do seek help, it can be a very unhealthy lifestyle..

Difference is that while for champions league countries send the same 2 teams every year too some have 3 or 4 slots which are then contested in their national league. Teams have to actually compete to be there. While the proposed super league was going to be the same teams all the time. That bit about "these 15 teams and 5 who qualify" was just a thinly veiled attempt to make people think that qualification would be every year when it would have simply been for the first and final roster.

CL has at least some competetive aspect to it, ESL was proposed as a money machine to cut into eufa profits. That said I think uefa/fifa are corrupt slime bags too and in need of major reform, but that reform is not coming from doing something even more slimy.

Fully agree, but i saw some people the last days claiming something along the lines "now the working peoples sport has been taken over by big money, and it's all about the money now, not the fans" - when... let's be honest this has been happening for decades. Sure this is egregious and blatantly open, but i question if UEFA/FIFA moral outrage - i think they're just annoyed they didn't come up with it.
