Alaskan Legislator Banned by Alaskan Air

Ongoing In: Sarah Palin was always the logical conclusion of the GOP.

Last week, a police officer responded to an Alaska Airlines terminal in Juneau as state Sen. Lora Reinbold clashed with staffers over mask rules. It was a familiar battle for the Republican lawmaker, a vaccine skeptic who has blasted flight attendants as “mask bullies” and accused the airline of “mask tyranny.”

Now, she isn’t welcome on their flights at all. Alaska Airlines this weekend banned Reinbold “for her continued refusal to comply with employee instruction regarding the current mask policy,” the airline said in a statement to The Washington Post.

That’s a serious problem for the lawmaker, because Alaska Airlines operates the only regular flights to the state capital from her home in the Anchorage area, the Anchorage Daily News reported. Reinbold scrambled on Sunday to get to Juneau via an arduous 14-plus-hour car ride, including a jaunt through Canada, to reach a ferry to the capital.

Well, Terry, it sure as shit ain’t sad.

Reinbold is furious that her inalienable constitutional right to risk infecting a captive audience with a deadly virus is being abridged:

Reinbold also lashed out at the airline, claiming that her latest fight over mask rules was caused by “uptight employees at the counter” and arguing that Alaska Airlines was wrong to publicly confirm that she had been banned.

“Alaska Airlines sent information, including my name, to the media without my knowledge nor permission. I do believe constitutional rights are at risk under corporate covid policies,” she wrote on Facebook.

I am just a part time constitutional scholar on a gaming site, but I must say I am unaware of the provision granting individuals the right to fly on private airlines while belligerently refusing to comply with their safety policies. Must be in Article XII — somewhere in the back.

    She didnt get the memo.

Not only is she an idiot for arguing with them, and getting the boot... but she's also an idiot for thinking this has anything to do with her constitutional rights being infringed upon.

It's pretty sad that Palin is now one of the more intelligent GOP politicos these days.

Seriously these idiots who refuse to wear a mask, because reasons, can genuinely piss off. You want to fly in a METAL TUBE with recycled air without one? What a fool.

If she's real lucky, she'll try this shit with Canadian border officials, and get banned from the country. Which'll mean taking whatever the longer alternative to this 14-hour trek would be.

Canada has very little tolerance for bullshit like this.

You're a public figure, lady, and you're acting in public. They're free to tell the media all about you, unless you can point to the part of your ticket agreement that details your privacy privileges that would somehow not be waived by your refusal to comply with standard safety protocols. We'll wait.

Alternatively, feel free to point to the part of the Constitution that you feel grants you a right to plane travel. No, protected class legislation won't even qualify, because A> being an idiot isn't a protected class and B> you were denied for personal conduct, not membership in any supposed class.

Fucking hysterical. She's one of the crazies that continues to get elected in this highly purple dot surrounded by red insanity. Never a dull moment in the Last Frontier.

Without even clicking on the link, I saw this thread's title and said "it's a Republican who refused to wear a mask".

"Alaska Airlines sent information, including my name, to the media without my knowledge nor permission"
Well, it happened in public, so...yeah. Also, didn't she badmouth the airline in public -- without their knowledge or permission? I'm pretty sure she did.

Seems like entirely too much tolerance for it around here. We've got motherfucking public health inspectors palling around with anti-mask plague cultists.

Typical Republican NPC. Getting hard to tell them apart these days. Always the same dullardry.

She can rage all she wants, but she should've acknowledged that her travel would be severely hindered by refusing to abide by Alaska Airline's policies. Go drive and ferry or charter private planes if she can afford it.

Hey, yeah. Alaska's not exactly easy to get in/out of. Why doesn't she have access to her own plane?

You know how boats are often called money pits? Imagine one that can fly, and when it breaks while in use doesn't just float, it crashes. Planes are insanely expensive to maintain. She's a millionaire, but a couple million is no longer "plane owning rich." She's also on the dumb end of the "dumb GOP politician" spectrum. Flying a plane is likely way beyond her capabilities, so she'd have to hire a pilot as well.

People suggesting that there are a crap ton of bush pilots willing to fly her in AK are missing something: Offering her a ride would be an in-kind campaign contribution, and the people that can afford to fly her on their plane are likely already maxed out on contributions.

Yup, this. Glad people take a stand against this bullshit and don't continue to let it slip because someone is a celebrity or sth.

I know Republicans are shitty people, but it seems a little insulting to the proud tradition of the Sith to compare them.

Yeah, same with when they intentionally advocate reckless, dangerous behavior or violence and get kicked off privately-owned social media whose contracts they broke by intentionally advocating reckless, dangerous behavior or violence.

tfw your platform and policies are so unpopular you're left with no choice but to risk sickness and death to own the libs.

Perhaps you’re not as committed to upsetting the enemy as I am. That is fine.
Man, I was convinced this was a satire piece but like...looking through the rest of his articles he deems depressingly serious.

The fact that it's hard to tell, is itself a source of concern.

Given how the most common site on /r/conservative seems to be Babylon Bee, I shouldn't be as surprised as I am now.

I guess we'll see if you can sustain a political movement through sheer pettiness and hatred. I suspect they won't. Resentment is draining.
