I think your post makes a case for it referring to the community rather then the game.

Today starts week 9 of the PTR.

Most raid patches are 10-12 weeks.

So the logical assumption is then to assume a 20 week week PTR for mid August right?

Corona something something, we should be happy if it hits in august, that would be a blessing. I'm not shocked at sep/oct release.

The patch is pretty much done being tested. It won't take until August let alone September or October. Lol. What is with people having crazy release dates. Blizzard can even still release the patch in June as nothing says they need to wait X time between a release build and release.

No, but common business sense prevents a June or July release 1000%. Blizzard is in it for the money and they know people will be occupied with TBC for the next 2-3 months. Which means sub numbers are kept stable for whole Q3 without a 9.1 release.
They were also a month late on actual release and release was bit buggy so it took lots of dev power to get them over the finish line, which certainly delayed the coming patch cycles...
If they release 9.1 just before Q4 or start off Q4, they will ride sub number really smooth for the entire year, which will produces bonuses.
Its also the first ever major patch in wow history that has and is being created completely from home, according to a blue post.

Put all those together and do you honestly believe august/sep release is so far fetched??

    I don't but i guess we'll see

Yes. Because all you are doing is linking conspiracies as if it is actual business sense. The failure of your plan is that it doesn't account for number loss due to delaying content until Q4. Which means anything they gain now from TBC classic will be offset by the losses they have from retail. They also can't be a month late for 9.1 since you know we are discussing the release of 9.1. Lol.

You ignore both the current state of the PTR and how shows all the signs of being close to release. and that Blizzard doesn't report subscription numbers. MAU drop will cause reported numbers to not be smooth since TBC classic should create a spike.

A good majority of people i know from retail has gone over to TBC and i've seen a ton of friends that had stopped completely with wow coming back.
Anecdotal evidence for sure but I think its a pretty fair representation across the board in that TBC draws both players from retail due to content draught but also returning and even new players. Even with the people leaving retail for content draught, i'm fairly confident to say sub numbers is a net increase now after TBC release and will continue to climb.
The flaw in your logic is that you assume TBC doesnt have a huge influx of players that dont even play retail and only came back for TBC nostalgia.

We've been discussing 9.1 release for weeks, not sure what your point is?
The PTR shows very little sign of being close to release. Close to release would mean class tuning had really started, which it has not.

And its not a conspiracy theory from my part, its just logical deduction with the information and facts at hand.
Time will prove us both right or wrong

Use your brain. June/July release is far more likely than a damn August release

I saw some content creators that when asked "when you think 9.1 is coming?" replied "duuuuuh, dunno, I think August". Less and less actually play PTR and use brain. In few weeks (days?) all of them will give headlines "IS BLIZZARD RUSHING 9.1????". Hard to expect more from random that treat them as source of info.

The MAU are combined for both games. One subscription covers both. How will numbers continue to climb with a content drought? You just said part of TBC classics numbers are from retail players bored of a content drought. Those players are not new MAU if they were still subscribed to the game. TBC Classic won't have that large of an influx of players beyond the already existing retail and Classic players.

You are the one assuming that TBC Classic will have such a large increase in numbers that it can both attract new players to wow and cover the loss of players due to retail content drought. A retail content drought you are also stating will be artificially extended out of 1000% good business sense to October which is the start of Quarter 4. The PTR does not show little sign of being close to release. Changes are minimal. The PvE content has mostly be tested. Raid testing has concluded. Final tweaks are happening. All the signs are there for a release build soon.

There is nothing logical about saying Blizzard will delay a finished project just to have a smooth MAU chart for investors. They care about total MAU not how pretty the lines look. Lol.

Funny, cause 9.1 is pretty much, realistically, 2 months "later" than the usual Patch cycle. And that's namely due to COVID. But people fearmonger, cause they always do that. People kept spewing out this exact same shit with BFA and Legion, and act like Blizzard "haven't learned". Also don't get why people think SL is full of systems. SL has less systems than Legion lmao

And outside of raiding, I legit could not play for 2 months and I'd lose absolutely NO experience whatsoever. Oh, and btw...

9.1 has the greatest catchup gearing I've ever seen in a patch. And the Mythic Affix is fun asf...

But dudes like Bellular, that don't play the PTR mind you, fearmonger this shit to the fullest. Like wtf?

Also, is Music in? Cause I heard like...2 tracks in Korthia.

Kinda doesn't help that most of the content, such as the Cutscenes, titles, testing, etc's in already. All that's truly left is some class tuning and music.

Mid-Late June seems like the most likely option.

9.2 may be the last patch, but it could also not be. If it is, that isn't really a Blizzard issue (Tho, they exist, trust me). SL's just got nothing interesting in terms of lore. Sylvanas will learn the meaning of Life, the Keepers will fuck up Helya, Mueh'zala will die, the Pantheon of Life and the Gardens of Life will be dealt with, Sylvanas' plot will be resolved, and the Jailer will fall at the Sepulcher of the First Ones with us, the Pantheon of Life, and the Pantheon of Death leading the assault.

Then the BIG expac, AKA 10.0 will actually occur.

Boom. Bam. Done! And no plot point is left loose, unlike WoD...

And if 10.0 is Light or Light and Shadow, which I think is Light and Shadow, then the WoD plotpoints can finally be dealt with, such as Farahlon, the Yrel plot, and Shattrath getting its chance to finally be a fucking raid.

    This shit above...

This shit is the BEST option Blizzard could do here. Expanding SL past 2 patches would be dumb. BFA only made it to 3 patches cause they shoved 3 expansion plots in 1. SL is about Death, but also the balance between Life and Death. And if I've learned anything, Life still needs its due against Zovaal.

Without TBC a lot of people would have cancelled their subs, now they renewed it instead and continued with tbc.... Can we stop arguing semantics? How can you be to sure it doesn't have the exact same influx of players as for any expansions, let alone tbc, considered one of the best? Seems like an odd stance to take.
Like mentioned, some people quit that has no interest in tbc but a lot just switched retail to classic and kept paying the sub.
I've also seen a ton of people i haven't seen in years only coming back for TBC... So new players, more subs for keeping them with TBC.

You're also making a huge assumptions that the initial release delay hasn't trickled down to the first ever patch made at home? Like it would be more efficient to create a full content raid patch that way? Also a pretty odd stance of you to take.

Like i've told you, the sub numbers go up for any expansion, let alone the most beloved one while also staying pretty consistent, which is great engagemanget metrics. All in all, this year will looks very good to investors. And "pretty lines" convey consistency and consistency shows stability and growth, which Investors really love.

But sure, we can agree to disagree and bookmark this post and come back when release is announced and the loser buys the other a beer? Deal?
I'm going with Middle to late august.
You are going with june or july?

What you are talking about isn't semantics. A lot of people will still cancel their subs even with TBC Classic because most people play retail. Classic did not have that large of numbers and saw a decline up until the TBC release. So players were already canceling subscriptions for both Retail and Classic. Yes TBC-C will bring players back but even classic did eclipse retail and that was when the novelty was fresh.

You seeing new players is not indicative of a trend. Are people coming back? Sure but your sample size is small. There will be a spike in MAU with TBC-C because every expansion launch always sees a spike. It won't be a smooth trend nor does Blizzard want a smooth trend because that goes against predictions. Extending a content drought for Retail is an artificial boost that might not cover the loss that will happen when TBC-C novelty wears off and the lose from Retail having a a few more months of no content.

Why are you going with middle to late august when you said they will push it to Q4? Which begins in October so September or October should be your guess no?
