Sweden's cross-wing government falls in historic first impeachment

Our government has been a mess since the election in 2018, which lead to a cross-wing government.

The tipping point was letting go of rent control, essentially implementing free market rent on apartments. In the beginning it was said to only apply to newly built apartment, but other countries, such as Finland, has showed that eventually it leads to all apartments. Vänsterpartiet (our most left-wing party, borderline socialists) has said ever since the election that if this were to pass, they would start an impeachment of our government, which the other right-wing parties who aren't in government jumped along with, and here we are today with a first in Swedish politics.

    Now three things may happen;
    1) Our prime minster announces for an extra election. This won't affect the next planned election in 2022, which will still happen.
    2) Our prime minister resigns, which gives the floor leader the go-ahead to start speaking to the different parties and make suggestions of governments until next year's election.
    3) The social democrats, the biggest party, tries to take a few steps back and removes the part about free market rent. This won't happen, though, as the center party, which are the ones pushing for it, will not accept it.

We will see what happens now. My guess is that we will have an extra election and form a new government until next year.

Dont you mean No confidence rather than impeachment

Both. it was a "misstroendeomröstning", which translates to "no confidence", but the result was that the government has been "avsatt", which means impeached.

I could have sworn impeachment was riksrätt..

    You are correct.

Also I feel that Löften blev this big time. Had he two weeks ago gone closed door with V, underlined that they were on the same side on the core issue. Told V that they'll hold a neutral tone in government. Not leave any propositions for anything.
And then agree to make it a core question for the election 2022 where they'd be on the same side.

And this probably wouldn't have happened.

Also, correct aside from impeachment as stated. Was no confidence, which isn't the same. Thus is a "we don't trust you", not "you did wrong".

Yay, extra election.. By they time they settle there wont be time for any useful work in the parliament cos everyone is busy with the re-election campaign for next years election.
A fucking mess is what it is. Just bad outcomes whatever the fallout.

Also as others stated it's not an impechment. Result of a misstroendeomröstning is not impeched by any means.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

Ah, you mean a vote of no confidence? (Since impeachment is something different) Yeah, it's all over the news here too (Denmark). Means there's going to be a mess to be handled before a new vote can get through.

Then they're idiots. There's plenty of places in Europe where lack of rent of control has led directly into a catastrophic scenario.

Would be a majority of 1 vote and that C vote is one Löven can't count on, it had voted against the government before in parliament.
Also C is rolling in the polls yet they have been pseudo supported a failing government tattooed with a big LOSER sign given recent events.

That also hinges upon just what card C plays in the coming days. Annie Lööf has been calling V a fringe extremist party even when V is more or less just what S used to be a couple of decades ago ideologically.

We need rent control in a lot of places in America. I would imagine these right-wing people were voted in by people who hate immigrants?

Seems like another case against "we need more political parties".

Who really wants to get into bed with far-right parties? The more progressive members of these alliance always seem to be on the losing side of policy compromises.

These Red-Brown alliances again, seems like another Syndicalist fantasy of Very Online people. Also people unable to make alliances in South Carolina primaries.

The "Social Right" is a thing in most parts of Europe. Usually right wing in Europe means a bit more than immigration policies, although lately there has been a lot of focus in that.

Except that the party on the left want the same PM back. As they know it's the best they can get.
They just had to put a foot down on one of the two issues they had said were red lines for their support (which was needed to form the coalition, even if they were outside of it).

Also, using "progressive" is absolutely the wrong word when talking about the left in Sweden.
Are they progressive on most things talked about under that umbrella? Yes, but they are economical left first and foremost.
Outside of our Christian Democrats (and facists) all parties are fairly socially progressive.
