It's just a tool to keep track of where you're up to. Why is anyone complaining about that?
People are extremely gatekeep-y over the most inane things

Shocking as it is, most people have friends and are also not unemployed for life.
    You should try it.
But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.

No because in real life you are not suspending progression to achieve enjoyment.
In a video game, the goals should be adequate challenge and engagement.

This addon is certainly not impeding this, so I have no idea why anyone would comment on it.

    But very many addons do.
So do many actual additions to the game, such as flying or heirlooms.

If you want the game to be adequately stimulating for a long period of time, you should avoid going out of your way to make it quicker and easier.
Just kind of goes without saying, yet so many people don't grasp the concept.

That’s assuming everyone has the same goal. If you don’t like leveling but love end game activities, heirlooms make sense.

Really, though, most people just want loot and to be able to say they did something (even mundane) for it. So we have addons to prescribe everything we do and we can, if so desired, basically just play Simon Says.

The goals are set by the game, but you are right about leveling.
Not suggesting they remove heirlooms or anything like that.
Just find it quite funny how many players complain about leveling in modern wow despite not taking any action to make it more engaging.
Or more so, taking a lot of action to make it less engaging.

This is a funny commentary on life all around honestly, and one that conveniences like Cellphones and social media has really exacerbated.

Even if you are aware of it, it can be very hard not to just take the easiest route through everything, including games that you are presumably playing for a break from real life...
...where you take the easiest route through everything.

Not really. All the add-ons that made the game easier, by literally drawing on the screen were broken by blizz.

These add-ons heart curate information into one place. You could spend the time to search for each quest and it's id and typing the command to check if you've completed it. Or you could take 5 seconds to download the addon that does it.

I guess you think macros make the game easier, too?

Humans invest great amounts of time and energy to make easy routes. Someone identifies a problem, and spends time creating something that will make that problem easier to deal with. Maybe the problem is they want an easy way to keep track of attunements, because their engagement is doing the attunements and the content that they will then be attuned to. Keeping track of the attunements is not where they find their fun.

Maybe the problem is that farming is hard, so we start with basic tools and work all the way up to mechanised farming, which allows us the luxury of freeing up huge portions of the population that used to be required for food production to make things like computers and computer games and the internet.

If humans didn't look for the easier path, you wouldn't have the opportunity to moan about humans looking for the easier path on the internet. It wouldn't exist.
