How weird. Why not just leave it up? I can't imagine it costs them much.
Usually has something to do with licensing issues and such and the companies not wanting to fork over money for it, but can continue to serve the existing copies.
I'm also assuming it's for the physical collections only despite saying "Collector's" because I don't recall seeing anything for either collector's edition when I bought the digital versions.
Aren't the fancy digital editions marketed as "deluxe" and not "collector's"? I could be misremembering because I buy the (physical) CE but I thought they used the term exclusively for the physical copies, which is might be why they didn't specify. But I honestly don't remember and I did think the Deluxe version came with the soundtrack too so
(as far as the use of the word "Digital" I assume that is because for the last few years, the physical CEs included a digital download code for the soundtrack and not a physical CD)
Why?
It's not like Blizzard can't afford to keep a site stood up.
Or, even, host the soundtrack for free at this point. Not on streaming, just for download.
They could just make a downloader that downloads the soundtracks from youtube. No additional maintenance or hosting costs then.
Because everything nowadays swaps to streaming services they can take down at any point instead of you "owning" the goods (music, movies, games, etc.)
While I understand people asking "why?" at the same time what's the point keeping it up? Seems just generally unnecessary to me, if you haven't redeemed and downloaded it by now then you're probably not interested in it anyway? The only exception I can see to that is if people buy a physical collector's edition after the content is taken down.
Youtube is terrible quality, that's why. The website offers lossless with the code, but at least streaming on Apple Music does now as well.
However, the soundtrack CD's have always been included with the CE (except the last two) which always provides lossless too. It's a little weird of them to discontinue something that you'd still get charged for buying the CE.
I got every CE until BFA, one of the reasons i stopped was because the CD's weren't in it anymore.
As someone who does still use CD's, reading this makes me glad i didn't buy it..
What a show.
Always thought given the increased cost of the CE, it was crap they didn't include a physical CD, when those things cost pennies to print.
Licensing issues? Not here, it is their own product.
And seems that yes, for physical copies only, because digital ones definitely did not have any kind of code.
Ebay has this https://www.ebay.com/itm/World-of-Wa...-/313381146810
These sites give you the option to download the soundtrack files. All those subscription services do not. No, they are not connected, it is just Blizzard cutting some costs. Though the SL one is the strangest, since the expansion is current and in the middle of it's lifecycle.
oh no. this will seriously cut into my profits from selling my collectors edition in mint condition 10 years from now when BFA/SL are classics!
