Aye, I commute daily from Silicon Valley and heading south usually on Fridays since the 2020 Election they've been out waving flags, they get the occasional honk from people driving by but I do see a lot of middle fingers and I swear I saw one guy give "The Salute" to them.

Ehhh I think his recognition mileage with people outside of California is limited, and what seems to be rather embarrassing failure in a rather embarrassing recall attempt probably isn’t getting him any large scale party attention.

The thing elder is probably getting out of this is money in the form of the “we’re raising funds to investigate* the ‘tremendous fraud’ that made us lose! Just make all your checks out directly to Elder”

Looks like the polls are off by a lot again. This time in favor of Democrats by more than 10 points. It appears that the polls overestimated GOP voters enthusiasm and underestimated that of the Democratic voters. With 70% of the votes counted, it is 63.9 - 36.1. It I my understanding that they are now starting to count the late arriving mailed in and drop in ballots. Based on 2018 and 2020 elections we should start seeing Democrats gaining more ground in the next 2 weeks. By the time all said and done, I think a 30 pts. gap is very likely.

I like the NPR break down which can be sorted by population, 2020 presidential margin, etc. Democrats have strengthened their hold on all the major population centers. On average we are looking at between 2 - 3 pts. gain from 2020 presidential election. On the other hand, the GOP gained strength in the more rural counties. We are seeing double digit gains for the GOP in rural counties with population of 50k or less. Obviously a 5-pt. gain in Santa Clara is a lot more voters than 11-pt. gain in Modoc.

Its hard to blame the rural counties for voting yes on the recall. They took the brunt of everything bad in 2020 and 2021. From Covid and the associated lockdown, wildfire and the associated poor air quality, drought and the oil/gas price collapse last year. None were Newsom’s fault, but he was the person in charge.

I feel bad for you having to commute on the Bay Area freeways. Been in San Francisco for almost nine months, and I have not driven on the freeway once. Our Honda Insight is still on the same tank of gas from when it was delivered.

It's lovely, I fill my tank like, once a quarter now that I work from home. My commute wasn't even very long, maybe 15 miles one way, but it took bloody AGES with the traffic (45m-1H usually). And that wasn't even going to SF (Oakland instead) and wasn't anywhere near the bridge so I was avoiding that mess.

I miss the drive sometimes, there are some great views and seeing the goats munching away on the side of the freeway for fire mitigation was always fun. But holy hell so I not miss rush hour traffic.

Let's be honest. That has only a little to do with it. Those are just the talking points. All that mattered is Newsom's party starts with D. That was what probably 80-90% of the rural community needed to vote yes. I mean lets not forget their god emperor Trump pretty much ignored the fire situation AND made federal aid very difficult to acquire because he didn't carry the state. So while the fires would have still started, burned, and the air still would have sucked it probably wouldn't have been as bad. Not to even mention the possibility (which is damn near a certainty) of Republican environmental policies that accelerate the rate of which the fires will occur. Everyone got jacked with COVID lockdowns. It isn't like the big cities enjoy immunity from that at all and they seemed to not be petty about it. Sure beat the other sides strategy of "lets just sit here and act like nothing's wrong and wait for the vaxx" and then when the vaxx arrives "vaxx is terrible don't take it".

    Interesting comparison.

The first image is the recall vote, bluish is "yes" and orange is "no". Second image is the covid cases by county, the darker the worse things are there.

Sure is quite a lot of overlap between the areas hit worst by covid and the areas that wanted to get rid of Newsom. I'm just glad that most of those counties aren't terribly big so they got absolutely trounced in this recall farce.

Without the Bay Area hospitals taking their overflow Covid patients and the fully State funded Air Ambulance system, those counties would have been screwed so hard by Covid.

I forgot how pleasant it is not to depend on having a car to perform your daily tasks and entertainment - grocery shopping, pharmacy, dining out, parks, museums, concerts, etc. My wife is retired. She still free lance for her old company that she sold last year and a couple of small real estate firms in San Francisco. She mostly work from home. I still spend 2 - 4 days a week in San Diego. No exit strategy on what to do with my company. So I will be doing it for awhile. I usually walk to 9th, take the light train downtown, and take BART to Oakland Coliseum and then the train to the airport. I like flying in and out of Oakland Airport better than San Francisco International.

276 million for an election that was called in less than an hour. I felt like somebody who paid for a pay-per-view fight that ended after the first punch.

You mean like Mike Tyson fights in the early 90s? HBO would have 3 hours set aside for it...then a minute and a half later it's over. Then we get almost 2.5 hours of "The History of Boxing". Announcers even referred to it as "The Art of the 90 Second Knockout" after it became a recurring theme.

I unfortunately don't have the luxury of Work From Home, I need to actually be on site to walk jobs to be able to provide quotes and write up the work plans for the work being done. Plus I couldn't take working from home I did it for a month after Shelter in Place hit back in March of last year and fsgjkfklgjfdfdkgjdfklgjdfkljgdsfjgnjkdfsbnkj;fds HELL no.

On Topic, this is some damn good Anti-Recall ammo for the future if it cost CA Taxpayers 276 Million

Populists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.

I knew who that moron was before this. He literally works for Chinese propagandists the Epoch Times. And similar to the Hitler Defender Candace Owens, he doesn't care about actual issues and claims that racism doesn't exist, simply because he is a useful idiot for the Republicans to point to when they claim to have that "black friend" like Candace, Ben Carson, and others. They know they can make money hand over fist because of gullible right wingers and their donors.

Haven't they had the Nazi/skinhead problem in California for quite a while now?

I like how all of the replies to that is funny, but then the recommended tweets after that had some good points.

I like the ones where they say that if the recall vote fails, that you should be required to reimburse the state. That should be a fucking federal law, so that every state that has that option, should be forced to pay for it.

Well, at the very least the state employee vaccine mandate is gonna happen now. Guess my cousin I never see anymore is moving to 'Bama.

He should bring Keller out to cook for him at home instead.

The frivolous recall campaign by the GOP in California just wasted $276 MILLION dollars of taxpayer money. And it wasn't remotely close, a complete waste of time and money. The GOP used to be the party of fiscal responsibility. What happened? Now it's the party of misinformation, crazy debunked conspiracy theories, race baiting, and winning above all else. That is a lot of money thrown away by the GOP that could have gone to schools, solving the homeless issue, COVID relief, fighting wildfires, etc.

Thankfully it sounds like California's legislature is going to ensure that a party never wastes taxpayer money with a frivolous recall attempt again, and the costs will need to be covered by the party requesting the recall. But the right loves to bash California, and now there is a very easy response for that. 276 million responses in fact. Herman Cain was less of an opportunist than Larry Elder, and that's saying something.

*chuckles at your use of the word "now"*
    this ain't new
they just claimed to be fiscally responsible, facts never bore that out
misinformation, conspiracy theories, race baiting, winning above all else? Hell, look at campaign ads over the last 70 years and you'll realize they've been whoring to those for a long time, they just before refuse to kiss them in public.

its like when people ask "What happened to Guiliani?" or "What happened to Trump?"
anyone that actually had to deal with either of them over the years will tell you, nothing happened, cept the cameras stayed on them longer instead of just the nice edited content.
The GOP can be summed up the same way.
"Law and Order", lots of places have had that, Russia, North Korea, Saddam's Iraq.
Laws can be made to enforce order of cruelty and brutality.
Equality and Justice, that is how you have peace and a society that benefits all.

It has never been the party of fiscal responsibility. GOP is the party that creates the deficit only to then bash the democrats for there being a deficit (even though democrats lower it). Fiscal responsibility, state rights, small government, you name it. All GOP slogans are just populist lip service that they don't actually give a damn about.
