No? Literally, due to investors, they cannot phase out Blizzard without a reasonable warning. And if they did, there would once more, be a drop in investors, as well as manpower most likely. Blizzard is seated so well, that if Kotick and the board wanted to turn the key, they would need to vote for it, Kotick is not the sole voice, he's not even the chairman of Activision-Blizzard. If they for some insane reason would vote yes, then they would have to issue an investor's warning about closing down Blizzard Entertainment, offering them a time period to sell off or sell on. It isn't that easy to just say, "no more money".

Their last critical darling that held up was what depending on who you ask Legion, Wings of Liberty or Hearthstone. Thats 2016, 2010 or 2014 respectively. All 3 now in massive decline or outright killed by their disastrous last release. Then you have overwatch and shadowlands launch sales as moneymakers but thats about it. For at best the last half a decade minimum with no major releases or none expansions outside of warcraft refunded with only 3 announced projects -the only one with a release date being a vicarious visions product and not blizzard.

Even putting the scandals aside, even the years of burnt goodwill and consumer outrage as a videogame company their library is mostly abandoned, their output has severely declined in quality with higher up braindrain and they have put out one new IP in 23 years. Thats a record even Bethesda doesn't stoop too.

Can they fix that? the question of course being "if they can why haven't they ever previous year of horseshit in a row?"

Blizzard thought they were too big to fail and their name and blind brand loyalty fanbase was a infinite goodwill get out of jail free card and they could pull anything or output anything and do fine. But no company can do that forever.

Follows the people, not the brands. All of the old guard left long ago. The only prominent old timer left is the artist Samwise Didier, but apparently he hasn't done anything since Heroes of the Storm in 2015.

The modern Blizzard is no different then before. They were always corporate money focused. It is why Blizzard Entertainment didn't exist before getting a parent company. And why they renamed the studio when looking for a parent company. The thing that changed are the players that keep looking for excuses for why they no longer like Blizzard. All of the old guard you put on a pedestal were part of the problem that lead to where they are today. Remember that instead of worshiping them and blaming "corporatism" as a scapegoat.
