    Trump.

I believe Grisham, because there's nothing to gain here. She's not trying to get back into Trump's good graces and, from the sounds of things, would refuse even if offered. I don't think the GOP hates her, even if the Party of Trump does, so this statement actually goes against her future interests.

Graham had a breakthrough case and said it would have been a lot worse if he wasn't vaccinated, so no, he hasn't been. But yes, he went from 2016 "we should kick Trump out of the party" to the 2020 "whatever Trump wants, he gets" with everyone else. He chose to be part of this, he chose to be on the side of Trump. Therefore, he chose to take the consequences of his actions.

For the record, as that article states, Graham said "you ought to think about it" for which he was immediately booed. Trump supporters do not even want to think about it. That's how far gone they are.

    Related:

Similiar to a case or two we've heard in the past (cough elections cough) SCOTUS refuses to hear cases about Wall funding on the grounds that Biden isn't building it anymore. There's more details than that, such as people now effectively suing Biden for Trump's damages, but yet another Trump "accomplishment" is falling apart. Literally, in some places.

Also, Trump is starting to have donors come out against him, basically admitting in public that Trump wasn't worth the money the first time.

"But Breccia! Surely Trump doesn't need donations, he can fund his own campaign, just like he said he would in 2016! And also, just like he said in 2020!"

    Did he, either time?

"I mean, he leant himself money at prime plus something percent, then collected from other people's donations..."

That sounds like a "no". Trump is likely building up a war chest, whether he runs in 2024 or not. He likely knows he's still got some popularity left, before the eviction notice hits Trump Tower (soon to be named Deutche Wunderbank), the cuffs click closed around his tiny wrists, or more people come to the Graham 2016 consensus that Trump is more harm than good, and look elsewhere. Like any of the dozen GOP governors who blocked mask mandates to protect the freedumbs of what's left of their population.

Well, I guess the rule is now that if you tried to help Trump do something, you go broke in the long run.

Giuliani Ally Parnas Says He’s Broke as Criminal Trial Nears

Lev Parnas, the Rudy Giuliani associate who helped him try to dig up dirt on Joe Biden in Ukraine, said in a court filing he can no longer afford to pay for his legal defense in his upcoming trial on campaign finance charges.

Parnas did not request the appointment of new counsel, and his lawyer, Joseph Bondy, confirmed on Monday that he would continue in that role despite his client’s financial troubles.

U.S. District Judge J. Paul Oetken in Manhattan on Monday ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to arrange or pay for Parnas’s transportation and lodging, citing a letter Bondy had written concerning his client’s indigence. Parnas, who lives in Florida, is scheduled to go on trial in New York Oct. 12 on charges that he laundered the source of campaign donations and funneled foreign funds into campaign accounts for U.S. politicians.

The judge said he would cover Parnas’s costs by reimbursing Bondy at the government per diem rate under a federal law that provides funding for representation for indigent defendants. Bondy said he had not planned to take such funding and had hoped that another means of covering Parnas’s expenses could be identified.

    That's the surface level fucked.

The next level of fucked is that, an adult person, in a position of power, didn't think that was a problem.

The next level of fucked is that person only now thinks its fucked and is trying to find ways to benefit from saying it was fucked.

The next level of fucked is that she was far from the only one in the WH.

The next level of fucked is there were numerous people in the WH, who didn't think that was fucked at all.

The next level of fucked is that Trump can still win in 2024.

I dispute that any of them were mere "dumb sheep", in the first place.

As I've said in other threads; there was a word for decent Germans in the 1930s who didn't engage in any violence, but just sat by and watched what happened and maybe called the police if they thought their neighbours were harboring undesireables. The word for those people was "Nazis". Being happy that others will engage in blatant violence on your behalf does not make you an innocent sheep. It makes you complicit.

If you had meant people who stayed outside the Capitol, I could've gotten behind you on this, but we're talking about people who were part of the mob who violently assaulted and broke into the Capitol. None of them were "dumb sheep" who didn't know they were committing crimes.

Being lenient with insurrectionists is a good strategy.

When the Nazi insurrectionists were convicted to light jail sentences in the 20s, it took all the wind out of their sails.

    Oh wait...

We're talking about a violent overthrow of democracy, not a bar fight.

They count on it. And they're engaged in various forms and levels of violent intimidation at school board meetings and town halls and on streets all over the country, sending a message, creating the chaos they claim to want to (and they alone can) fix, and it's working. Bannon's openly talking about "20,000 shock troops," conservative intellectuals are writing blueprints for overthrowing legitimate elections, and we know about it and collectively shrugged, the Federalist Society majority on the Supreme Court is apparently bored of the Constitution and open to extreme, radical right wing "ideas"--our inability to grasp the violent, fascist takeover that is unfolding right in front of us, the mercy in our matrix and aversion to conflict, what they consider weakness, is their launchpad. Quickie Monday report:

73,729 new cases; 677 deaths, bringing the total to 722,268. Both are down from last Monday, so it still appears as though the wave is easing for the most part (barring a few states where cases are going the other way). Wellllll, maybe. Cases nationally are down but cases among children remains high and aren't likely to disappear as the school year continues.

So, Trump's Georgia criminal investigation is making headlines again. I'll believe they'll press charges when it happens, but right now, they've got some especially cooperative witnesses:

    1) The election officials who received death threats, in some cases because Trump called them out by name, and
    2) Donald Trump.

Yeah, in his recent Georgia rally Trump pretty much admitted he called Georgia election officials. Obviously, he didn't mention the part where he threatened them -- nor did he need to mention it, we have the audio recording. But he's not supposed to be calling them at all.

Should Trump go to trial, that rally could be used as evidence. I keep saying "lying to the American people is not a crime" but statements said in public 100% can be. Trump's only defense seems to be "the investigation is politically motivated" which, at this point, why wouldn't it be? The Party of Trump is an organization that runs on threats and murderous insurrection. We've talked about this before, and it gets into grey areas, but...if a cop pulls over a Cadilac with a Grateful Dead sticker that's speeding, the driver can't say "you only pulled me over because I had a Grateful Dead sticker" and expect that defense to work at trial. Over the speed limit? Speeding. Yes, bring the cop up for investigation if he lets cars with Beatles or Elvis stickers that are going 100MPH in a school zone, but the Cadlilac gets a ticket while we're waiting. So even if Trump is telling the truth about political motivation, first of all he's the one that caused the politics of the situation, and second of all that won't help him in court.

Speaking of "it won't help" Pence went on live TV and said the Jan 6th investigation is being done to demean (exact word) the 74 million people who voted for Trump.

From this, we can take away three things.

One: Pence has now drunk the Kool-Aid, possibly at gunpoint. He's a lost cause. I actually respected Pence a little, he let Trump do almost everything except commit treason, but at some point he did draw the line. What little respect I had, is gone. Pence is no longer GOP, he is now Party of Trump.

Two, this won't help. Team Trump has already turned away from Pence. Maybe Pence is doing this because he wants back into national politics and thinks (correctly) this is the only way it can happen while Trump is still alive. Maybe he's received enough death threats and is cowing to terrorism. But Team Trump does not forgive. Once you turn on Trump, even for Trump trying to murder you, you're out forever. All this did was weaken Pence in everyone's eyes, including his own.

And three, basically every carbon-based life form on Twitter reminded Pence he was in the Capitol when the murderous insurrection was sent by Trump to lynch him.

Pence also claimed the Jan 6th investigation was being done to distract from Biden's failings. This, of course, does not line up with reality. Pelosi announced the investigation Feb 15th. Pence, as appropriate for someone in the Party of Trump, is lying.

Finally, in one of the strangest UPDATEs I've ever posted:

    UPDATE:

Now the wine thing...actually brings up an interesting point. Giuliani is trying to fight accusations that he was drunk when he made his 9/11 speech in which he...sigh...

Look, I know this is Team Trump and I should stop being either surprised or disappointed when I post on their behavior.

He made fun of the Queen of England. On live TV. On 9/11.

I'm not an alcoholic. I'm a functioning — I probably function more effectively than 90 percent of the population.
-- Giuliani, in his own defense.

    "...functioning? As in--"

Giuliani also denies he's an alcoholic on the grounds he's never been treated for it. In a related story, I'm not a murderer because I was never caught. (eyeroll)

But, and this is once again where I ask @cubby for help, let's say hypothetically that Giuliani suddenly remembers he's a sick addicted alcoholic and was drunk when he said those things about Dominion (all of them, somehow) and filed all those motions in court. Does "I was a drunk alcoholic at the time" serve as a legal defense? And if so, why hasn't he used it yet? We've all seen the "I was an addict" defense play out in the court of public opinion, would it work in the court of...um...the court?

    In a related--

    "You said finally!"

It's related I swear! Giuliani should know he's in real trouble. Remember his Ukraine-dirt-digger Parnas? He just admitted under oath he's broke. He says he can't afford a legal defense, which I'm sure is expensive because he basically committed treason and is guilty as fuck. Parnas was not poor when he was arrested. Now he has a court-funded lawyer. Giuliani was probably richer than Parnas, but he's also facing more issues from more directions, and he 100% does not have $1.3 billion lying around.

If Parnas is too broke to afford a lawyer, he could do what Igor Fruman and David Correia did: plead guilty and flip. Giuliani would be next. And Trump doesn't pay him anymore, he doesn't even return Giuliani's calls. He can't practice law. The Dershowitz GoFundYourself dried up.

Giuliani is a dead man walking. You might say he's totally Farquad.

Pence is, was and always will be Team DeVos. Any actions he takes can be safely assumed that is done at bidding of the DeVos family and other Wealthy Conservative Christian donors. Yes that includes doing his ceremonial job of counting votes. Sacrificing Trump gives this merry group of misanthropes a tool to give the deplorables something to focus their anger on.

Until recently I would have argued against that. I can't anymore.

Also: Well, it is not a good day to be Donald Trump.

    1) Trump is no longer on Forbes' list of richest Americans. Trump claimed while running for office, on an official federal form no less, that he was worth TEN BILLION DOLLARS yes it was all-caps. Forbes disagrees. If I remember correctly, even in 2016 he wasn't worth four. Now he's at $2.5 billion and too low to be on the list.

Forbes goes on to say "He could have been worth $4.5 billion if he had just stuck with investing". Trump lost over a billion dollars while in the White House. Incidentally, some of that loss was, yes, because tourism tanked and Trump is in the hotel business. Why did tourism tank? There are so many reasons, it covid be any of them.

    2) That Grisham person went on live TV and basically said Jared/Ivanka were the real First Lady, handling all the social stuff Melania was supposed to but I Really Don't Care Do You?

I believe the author had an image of Melania's last att--

    Yep, that'll do.

Grisham goes on to say Kushner would

dive into these areas where I know he had absolutely no expertise and claim to save the day, and then he would leave
This, of course, is more evidence that Grisham is telling the truth. See also: peace in the Middle East.

    3) With Lewandowski out, there is a new Trump Super PAC called, I am not making this name up, Make America Great Again Again.

I mean...they do hear the words they speak, right?

The current Super PAC can simply dump all their money into the new one, because political donations are the biggest money laundering scam on the planet. I'm sure there's some loophole bullshit that explains why they don't just keep the old PAC with new management, but honestly, I couldn't give a fuck. I just thought the name was stupid and wanted to share.

It's really looking that way. Texas redistricting going to add another republican seat, voter suppression laws not getting gutted, and supreme court not packed. It's like dems are doing everything they can to make sure a red wave happens in 2022.

    Dems can't control TX redistricting.
State Dems can't stop the voter suppression laws, and sadly are having a helluva time convincing the last few Senate holdouts to support the national voting rights act because they have to deal with two asshats and there's not a single Republican that will support it.
SCOTUS packing was largely a fantasy to begin with, especially under Biden, and honestly I'm not sure the longterm impacts of such a change would warrant the immediate benefits.

Sadly, much of this is simply out of their control.

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham on Tuesday said officials in former President Trump's administration would regularly count on Fox News as the main source of favorable coverage for the administration.

"That's just where we went to get what we wanted out," Grisham said during an appearance on CNN's "New Day."

"By and large, they didn't get tough with us. They just took what we were saying and disseminated it," Grisham said.

Grisham drew a connection between viewers of Fox News and "people who went to the Capitol for Jan. 6."

"Again, I've had a lot of time to grapple with this and I feel horribly guilty about my part in it," she said. "Because I went on Fox a lot."
Fuck Grisham forever, what she did will never be forgotten. But man am I kinda enjoying her spilling so much tea to promote her book, even if most of it is fairly "no duh" territory.

So let's talk about Jeffery Smith, the patient who sued a hospital to administer ivermeticin.

    "Let me guess, he's fucked?"

    No. He's dead.

Smith was treated with Remdesivir, steroids and plasma during his hospitalization, but his condition continued to decline and he was put in a medically induced coma in July, according to the Enquirer.

Smith’s wife, Julie Smith, wanted her husband to be treated with ivermectin as his condition worsened and the drug was prescribed by a physician, but hospital officials refused to give him the drug as it has not been approved for use against COVID-19.

Julie Smith then sued the hospital after it would not treat her husband with the drug and a judge ruled in her favor at the end of August, forcing the hospital to administer ivermectin to her husband.

The order lasted 14 days until a separate judge ruled the hospital couldn’t be forced to continue the treatment.

“While this court is sympathetic to the Plaintiff and understands the idea of wanting to do anything to help her loved one, public policy should not and does not support allowing a physician to try ‘any’ type of treatment on human beings,” Common Pleas Judge Michael Oster said in the court order.
I don't know where the ivermeticin thing came from, I really don't. I suspect it was Some Guy On Twitter again, with his lack of medical degree somehow turning into scientific research in the minds of (checks news) Trump supporters. I'll admit this guy was dying so there weren't a lot of useful options left, but the family made a huge public showing of pushing for a drug everyone knew wouldn't work and...it didn't work.

I hope this story is seen by every single person who thinks vaccines don't work but horse dewormer does. The funeral was Friday.

Facebook recovered from their bad change in a few hours just fine. There was no 10 day global Internet outage as Q predicted, wrong again. Nor was 'Trump reinstated' because of the non-existent 10 day Internet outage. Shockingly, wrong again there too.

But I guess if every single day a person 'predicts' something like a plane crash or a natural disaster...eventually they'll be correct. Just like Trump, keep dishing out lies since none of his base even cares if it is false, they just overlook it because for them the ends justifies the means. And they are too committed to the cult and in denial to admit it was a sham. There are a lot of parallels.
