Its taken from two of the more famous western people in that period of American history. It's an appropriate name even if its not great together.

News outlets frame him as having been 'terminated' or 'fired' but the only official statement to the effect is that he no longer works for the company.
I'll admit for some reason my brain mixed up Alex and Jesse somehow, because I thought Metzen did mention him specifically.

But either way, it doesn't really change the fact that there is enough reason why people would draw a conclusion at this point. Nor does it change that this is a reaction after everything has already unfolded really.

It's not as if people are pushing for him to be fired.

Can you please explain to me what behavior of his was problematic? Was it his presence in the cosby suite for the photo? or was it the comment on a private group chat he made?

He's no longer employed at Blizzard, or anywhere that's been made public knowledge, so there's no campaign to end his career. I'll admit, I'm ambivalent about his involvement with the lawsuit and surrounding fallout, but I don't think labeling him a sex criminal is very productive. Many, like you yourself, might be confusing him with Afrasiabi.

Was he complicit? Sure. Was he a serial sexual harasser? Nobody has come forth with such a claim.
Thanks for the ad-hominem; it supports your inability to support your argument.

isn't that the problem it doesn't sound good together?

i mean like said in my previous comment i'm not saying it's awful it's just mediocre/average/boring specially if they are changing such an iconical name (yes the real Jesse Mccree is an asshole but his name sound quite epic)

Free name change > inappropriate name = two free name changes

Perhaps stop being a "smooth brain" yourself, for a change? I never said those that came forward are lying. I never said that "they asked for it" for wearing "inappropriate clothing", etc. You having to ascribe to me positions that were never mine to begin with shows how weak your position is.

They so should have changed his name to Cole Slaw. I might actually use him in Overwatch now that he is redeemed from his "horrible" past.

I can't even believe Act/Blizz allowed devs/ employees to make in game references to themselves. It is a dumb idea that really opens the flood gates for some bad situations.

They've been doing that for decades, since most of the higher ups were still from a time where gaming wasn't sanitized mass media. I mean they pretty much made an entire WoW expansion that was filled to the brim with memes. If you browse WoWpedia you'll find that half the characters ingame are ferences to something. Heck characters like Thrall and Malfurion were blatant and admitted self-inserts of the head writer at the time and even voiced by the same person. Blizzard never had this kind of professionalism where the devs have a healthy and save distance from their work, for better or worse. Now it comes to bite them in the ass and frankly I'm surprised it only happned now. It's quite surprising that they never were a major target of shit flingers like Sarkesian, despite WoW being ripe for the picking.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

But since you have atleast enough of a brain to operate a computer, you are very likely aware that that was the basis for the character, and thus you are also aware that the reason for renaming the character is to stop exalting a likely sex offender, and thus your showing solidarity with him is, definitionally, you associating with a sex offender?

Doubt it. Google tells me that Cole Younger was a 'Confederate Bushwhacker' before becoming a bank robber. Be a huge yikers if they choose the name from that guy.Unless there is another? Obviously Butch Cassidy was a murdering bank robber as well.

I somehow have the feeling this won't be the last time the character gets renamed..

It's fine. I think we're all at a point where referencing an employee within the game is a bad call, you just never know what someone is going to do or has already done that's going to cast a shadow on that character/location/whatever.

Save the employee call-outs for the credits. That's literally why they're there.

As for anyone who says "omg everybody's so touchy nowadays, cancel culture, this wouldn't have happened years ago" ... news flash, mistreatment in the workplace has been going on for decades and it's only now getting a light shone on it thanks to instant worldwide communication, computers and cameras in everyone's pockets, etc. If people can't behave themselves and not go gropey-gropey on the female staff then they absolutely should get called out for it.

    Dear lord

They just went and did it. Unbelievable what their decision process must have been like.

I can't believe they named the character after a porn actress. Don't they Google the shit at least once before they decide on a name?

  17. #77
Yea im gonna keep calling him mcree, i just don't care

  18. #78
McCree changed his name, so can you!
