I wasn't paying full attention, but not too many, I don't think. Arguably the most questionable decision was starting Buehler again on short rest. All the Braves runs were scored in the first 4 innings, and the last 3 were on a 3-run homer. Maybe he could have pulled Buehler after he gave up the double to put runners on second and third with two outs. But, I mean, his pitch count was still under 65 and his spot was second in the batting order for the start of the next inning. And, of course, there were two outs.

He was the giants manager during the bonds years.

I’m not saying he’s at fault, just that they’re 2 of - arguably the most - controversial asterisks of 21st century baseball and he’s got a connection to both.

He had no connection to Bonds' steroid use. Bonds never won a World Series.

So no, no asterisk for that.

The teams best player has an asterisk on his career, it taints the team, he ran the team.

Idk why you added bond never winning a ws. Not really relevant.

    Lol, nah.

If you're going to taint the managers of stars who abused steroids, there won't be many managers left out.

And quite a number of those players actually won a World Series.

It would be relevant if Baker was credited with a World Series win and people thought he didn't deserve it because of Bonds. But he didn't.

Eric Gagne says 80 percent of his Dodgers teammates used steroids

Guess we might as well put a big asterisk next to the entire Dodgers organization, eh?

Are you trying to “actually” that bonds’ steroid use wasn’t a big deal?

It certainly wasn't any bigger of a deal than any of the other steroid users (which by many reports was 25-80% of the league).

It's hilarious when people try to pretend that Bonds was the only star to use PEDs. Actually, it was the norm.

Certainly in the sense that it might impact the credit that goes towards a manager, which is usually most noted in said manager's World Series victories, Bonds' use was less impactful than many others'.

Yeah I feel bad for Dusty. You can tell he truly just loves the game. I don't think he's a cheater as the Astros were cheating before he got there, and only a few knew of Bonds steroid use, though many speculated, and even still that's not even remotely on the same level as sign stealing, which the entire team benefits from, and at much greater extent. I would be happy for Baker winning a WS as that would be the only positive out of the Astros winning.

Wasn't against the rules at the time though. I think that is the part that people miss.

They've actually been banned since 1991, but they didn't do any testing until 2003. There wasn't even a halfhearted attempt at enforcing the rule between then.

The Astros got shutout at home so I guess they ain't cheating no more.

Buster Posey retiring. He was one of the guys who opted out of 2020 and the rest did him well as he was back in All-Star form. Probably can't continue to take every-other year off to keep healthy enough to (mostly) get through a season.

A story came out a while ago that ARod used steroids in high school and gained 25 pounds of muscle before his junior year. Seems totally likely - most outrageously talented prospect in the past 30 years, hitting 36 home runs as a 20 year old shortstop after debuting at age 18.

So MLB was supposed to present a counterproposal to the MLBPA, they failed to do so and tried to bring in a mediator instead which the MLBPA refused. Last time they brought in a mediator it cost the 1994 World Series and a few weeks of 1995 so I get the hesitancy.

Bottom line is all of this sounds pretty bad and all but guarantees the season won't start on time.

Gonna have to wait for a good summary, but looks like 12 team post season, anti tanking measures, universal DH, no more 7 inning double headers and no more free runners in extras.

Overall, good stuff coming out of this. Unfortunate that the season was delayed slightly, but we do get 162 games.

Also, we gonna do a new thread for this season? This one is two years old now.
