What Ukraine needs is not what NATO needs, NATO does not need a war with Russia as has been made abundantly clear by NATO leaders.

Also joining NATO is a privilege that a country must earn through certain criteria: Every NATO member from Eastern Europe spent many years reforming, dealing with corruption etc. Ukraine has not thanks to oligarchs like Poroshenko.

Perhaps if Ukraine survives this war and Zelensky actually implements the necessary reforms, but absolutely not now. Same with Ukraine joining the EU.

Assuming they take Mariupol and the LOC ( the heavily fortified front line in Eastern Ukraine from 2014 till the war started in February ) quite possibly they will work to take places like Khrakiv and Dnipro.

A few hundred thousand troops isn't going to cut it, even if he doubles down. That might seem like a large force, but spread over that area, it really isn't. It probably isn't even more then Ukraine is able to commit to the fight at this point, since Ukraine mobilized a lot more then Russia did, and there isn't really a quality difference to even that out. Meanwhile, Russia is still fighting with broken logistics, incompetent leadership, and demoralized troops. Ukraine has roughly equal numbers with frayed logistics, excellent leadership, and troops that are extremely motivated and convinced they will win.
Yeah. Russia never had the numbers necessary to occupy Ukraine. The whole exercise was hasty, stupid, and doomed to fail from the start. Even if they were following proper modern military doctrine, occupying a country as large, noncompliant, and capable as Ukraine has proven itself to be would be a collosal undertaking.

It's still hard not to compare it to the invasion of Afghanistan, where an advanced modernized coalition was stymied for two decades by fewer than 100k experienced insurgents armed mainly with civilian vehicles, Cold War era weapons, and improvised explosives.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's military is over 100k strong and trained by the West and armed with some of the most modern vehicles and weapon systems available, further bolstered by volunteers and foreign intelligence. And Russia's invasion force is inexperienced, undisciplined, plagued by logistical issues and poor communication, and likely economically unsustainable.

The power imbalance is so much less extreme, to the extent that Russia almost looks like the underdogs. Seriously, the only real advantage Russia has is a vast surplus of materiel, which has been rendered mostly ineffective due to dogshit logistics. They can bombard cities, but it doesn't really get them any closer to achieving their goals; if anything, it emboldens the Ukrainian resistance.

I can think of at least government, flush with fresh electoral victory, who is practically guaranteed to veto any fast-track for Ukraine, if not outright vetoing their membership.

Best thing ever. Twitter shouldn't back down. Especially when you work for RT and put RT links in your own Bio for references.

When can we start calling them nazis? Is it time already? Yup, looks like it's time.

These fuckers need to be barred from the international community for decades. Even after Putin is gone, there's no going back to normal for a loooong time.

You know what both countries have in common?
IN both cases the invaders are fighting against the citizens of that country.
The Taliban weren't just some random terrorist or militia group that took over a country because they had support from X country, the taliban are people from Afghanistan. Same with Ukraine.

Ukraine has allot of Russians and the assumption was, just like in previous cases, that those Russians would help the Russian army. Well, they aren't.
Also the aid that Ukraine is receiving from western countries is a huge boost, without western US/EU aid Ukraine would probably have fallen by now.

Russian troops used civilians as human shields to try to protect themselves from a counter-attack from Ukrainian forces in a village in northern Ukraine

Villagers from Obukhovychi, just south of the exclusion zone around the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, said Russian troops were losing soldiers and armoured vehicles to a counter-attack from Ukrainian forces on the night of 14 March.

They said Russian troops went door-to door to round up about 150 people at gunpoint and held them in a freezing cold school gym as protection for Russian forces.

Lydmila Sutkova, one of the villagers interviewed by the BBC, told them:

They took us from the cellars where we were hiding and forced us out.

Old ladies, children, everyone. It was terrifying. They broke open the doors of anyone who wouldn’t open up.

Another villager, Maryana, said her daughter was still showing signs of anxiety since the night:

A two-year-old girl should not see this. I was afraid that we would all be shot in that gym. I was scared for my daughter. I don’t have the words.

Russia needs to be demilitarized. No nation capable of this sort of evil should have a military of its own.

Are you assuming that the said political entities are officially russian paid agents? But those are quite the predictions. Didn't think Russia is waging war against US (while apparently the other half of US political system is allied with Russia)...

If anything, international order is in far better shape now that Europe united against Russia with US and countless others heavily condemning Russia for their genocide.

le pen literally is paid by russia, as for others their interest just align, republicans/orban see putin as an allie because he "Triggers the libs" which is massacring of civilians in syria/ukraine and crushing of dissenters and lgbtq rights, so the common midwest working man needs to see them take a pro russia stance on his most important issues.

Yeah I understand the reason why people say republicans are Putin's party, totally do. Just that republicans being usual idiots doesn't really disturb the international order really. And I definitely can't see a president alone suddenly saying that they're out of NATO, cutting off all the positive ties with Europe for fun. Since given the examples, such betrayal of Europe might in theory as well turn them hostile towards US...playing right into Russia's hands. But that's only in theory, in practise - not gonna happen most likely.

Orban still needs to understand that if he wants to play friends with Russia, they are not going to fare so well in NATO and once that NATO-given protection is taken from Hungary, Hungary can enjoy russian friendship with all the possible invasion perks that come with it

Le Pen and her party are well known to be paid by Russia and she literally said 3 months ago that she will make France leave NATO if she wins. How does she manage to gain votes?

Sometimes, the light of the moon is a key to other spaces. I've found a place where, for a night or two, the streets curve in unfamiliar ways. If I walk here, I might find insight, or I might be touched by madness.

Eh, I'm not afraid of an invasion as such. Our present government will probably welcome, if not invite, them in.

Which is scary if you consider everyone above the age of 40 can still remember Soviet soldiers occupying temporarily stationed in Hungary.

For frustrated people, acts of violence project an image of strength which they wish they had and so they are drawn to it.

It seems a very familiar refrain - every French election you hear about how well Le Pen is going to do, only for them not to in the end.
