No, Sweden has not applied for NATO membership and won't do so for at least a few weeks (if at all).

Shooting down a Russian plane for basically saying "You haven't forgotten about us, right?" would not only give Russia a reason to do bad shit, putting more than ten million lives at risk, but would also disqualify us from NATO should we decide to apply as we'd be part of a conflict should something spark up.

It's not the first time it happens and it won't be the last. We send up our QRF and that's that. They don't want to mess with us. They just want attention and to test our response.

Overreacting would just be stupid and irresponsible, so I'm not surprised it's an idea you support.

No, they are thinking of planning to. They haven't actually applied yet. Did you actually read the articles?

They haven't done that, and even if they had it wouldn't be. North Korea does that shit all the time, and we're not at war with them. It's saber rattling and bluster, nothing more.

Flying into a country's airspace is not even remotely the same as blowing their plane out of the sky.

Except... this literally did not happen. That's just your tendency to hyperbolize everything.

We just went over the difference between deploying nukes and using them. And Putin has never threatened to invade Sweden, period.

Russia would not consider Sweden joining NATO as a declaration of war.

Sweden has not applied to join NATO yet. They likely will, but they haven't done it yet.

Maybe try reading? It's good for you!
On May 17, President Sauli Niinisto of Finland is scheduled to arrive in Sweden. He’ll meet with King Carl XVI Gustaf and the Swedish government before leaving the next day. And sometime during his visit, Sweden and Finland are expected to announce they’re both applying for membership of NATO.
So they haven't joined NATO yet, they haven't applied to join NATO yet, and they haven't even announced that they're going to apply to join NATO yet.

There's just speculation that they will ANNOUNCE that they PLAN to APPLY to join NATO in a little over two weeks.

But in your hyperbole-obsessed mind, that's the same thing as already in NATO, hmm?

Apparently the front at Izium has suffered incredible losses without any functional way to resupply, ie they are stalled.

This is the same region where they lost the most recent general.

I have to say, watching the Russians make incremental gains in this area had me a bit anxious but the Ukrainians know what they are doing.

If they actually got Gerasimov...that would be fucking hilarious. But as others have said it, don't use that account as a source for anything. Really sketch.

Either way https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ion_of_Ukraine the Russians started out with about 30 active flag officers before the war, confirmed kills they lost a third of them.

Generals don't grow on trees. Your average colonel can't just step in and do the same thing over night.

Dodgy or not I did notice a day or so ago, from other sources, that Izyum had been almost cut off from the main supply lines, and that Ukraine is grabbing villages to the north. My first thought was, hmm, are the going to try and Liberate Izyum?

edit: I should say there's one main road still available, but no railroad. So not entirely cut off sadly, but severely struggling

why does angelina jolie visit these horrific war zones? even for a celebrity/publicity stunt, it's borderline suicidal. She also did it with Yemen.

Lviv is as far from the fighting as is possible. Its probably safer there than driving a car.

Well, to be fair, her trip was cut short when the air raid sirens went off.

    https://www.usnews.com/news/world/ar...splaced-by-war

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie visited the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Saturday, going to the station to meet people displaced by the war with Russia before later leaving after air-raid sirens sounded.

Jolie, 46, is a special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency, which says more than 12.7 million people have fled their homes in the past two months, which represents around 30% of Ukraine's pre-war population.

During the visit to the station, Jolie met volunteers working with the displaced, who told her that each of the psychiatrists on duty spoke to about 15 people a day. Many of those in the station are children aged from two to 10, according to volunteers.

"They must be in shock ... I know how trauma affects children, I know just having somebody show how much they matter, how much their voices matter, I know how healing that is for them," she said in reply.

At one point during her visit to the station, she tickled a small girl dressed in red, who laughed out in delight. She also posed for photos with the volunteers and some of the children.

nowhere is truly safe in Ukraine.

As I said, her recklessness is commendable but what is the gain? She's a celebrity, not a political entity with the best security.

Although this means Angelina Jolie visited Ukraine before Joe Biden...

Were you hoping people would just see the links but not bother to open them?

I mean, what your pushing is debunked in the first couple of sentences alone from what you yourself linked to.

Finland and Sweden will join NATO. Unless people are afraid of nukes, I don't see why anyone would be apprehensive or skeptical.

It should be seen as a good thing.
