I don't buy into these ideas that theory is useless or bad to learn, as some do, but you can't paint all of metal with that broad a brush.
Yeah, as a metal singer and drummer myself I agree.

Music theory doesn't really mean much when it comes to extreme music. It's actually usually considered rather basic or straight up wrong when it comes to standard music theory. I learned some theory when I wanted to study music and even though it explained some stuff, it didn't mean much in long run.

To me metal was never really complex when it comes to melody and harmony. However it definitely is complex when it comes to rhythm and execution.

I know of many bands from Europe, like one called Falconer which split up in 2020 which was a folk metal band.

I also been listening to Nightwish,Blind Guardian,Hammerfall,Rhapsody of fire and such.

Yes, a single country is more diverse than a geographic region of 44-50 countries (depending on how you count). Makes total sense.

That's a great point, especially in the most modern extreme music.

    Yup.

    I have noticed this.

Play something by say Taylor swift or so, and people are like "you're playing my favorite song"

Play something by Iron Maiden,Dio, Amon Amarth or such and then people are like "is that supposed to be music?"

No different than the States that make up the USA.

The way he threw the word "sovereignty" like that, in relation to EU no less, makes me think he's a Brexiteer.

There is a really easy answer to this. America is more diverse, with more options, and likely far more musical styles to be exposed to on a daily basis. There will always be people stuck in the Top40, Japan, Brazil, whatever EU countries may apply are no different.

I think it's important to recognize that a niche visible market isn't representative of a massive popularity.

I would love to see the data behind it, though. Can you confirm that USA has a more diverse music industry than other countries?
Because that sure sounds like completely bullshit.

Why do you even care? It doesn't really mean much.

I get it, the music I listen to is intense and not really accessible. I can't really imagine blasting out The Dillinger Escape Plan or Every Time I Die when people just want to have a drink and chill. It's completely understandable.

Extreme music is special to me because it made sense out of all the emotions I was feeling inside while growing up. You can't really listen to such music while it plays on the background and that's why I love it. It commands attention and it's a cathartic experience.

I think it requires you to know these songs in order to enjoy them on casual level, otherwise they are simply way too busy.

Wishy washy much? Sounds like the EU need to make up their mind.

They are states, maybe one day when they grow up they will be countries.
Europe is a continent made up of different countries, the U.S.A. is a country made up of different states.

Ah yes, just like the US might someday grow up and become a democracy.

You mean a country with a wildly diverse population from the entire world filled with countless cultures, vs 2 racially homogenous countries and the EU which is made up of pretty much all racially homogenous countries and limited cultures? Do I really need to find data for what is clearly a common sense statement? Brazilians live here, Japanese live here, and all sorts of EU country members live here... in decently great numbers.

So yeah, common sense statement, in a country with a diverse population, the people in that country will be exposed to an eclectic musical selection. Metal just has more competition here. And honestly Metal had its time in the 80s.

You are also taking the statement that Metal is more popular or has a wider fanbase in other countries, completely on face value. Have you asked for the statistics to back that up? I've been to a number of metal, rock, etc... shows I've seen nothing indicating there wasn't a healthy mix of people there.

Those are countries, sir. The EU is just a group composed of individual countries that are committed to the same democratic and economic values.

Even the States don't share democratic and economic values lol.
