The rural New Mexico county is now certifying the results in a 2:1 vote, with Couy Griffen, who was just sentenced on Friday for his role in the Jan. 6 riot, being the lone "no" vote.

His reasoning?

[Griffin] called in to the meeting and said his "gut feeling and intuition" told him to oppose the move. He also railed against what he called the "overreach of the state government."

Now I don't think "I have an odd feeling in my gut" is enough to satisfy any court of anything other than you maybe being a little nervous or queasy. Butterflies in your tummy, you know?

Dan Crenshaw & Staff Assaulted by Right Wingers Shouting ‘Eyepatch McCain’ and Saying He Should be ‘Hung for Treason’

Rep. Dan Crenshaw and his staff were violently confronted at the Republican Party of Texas convention a short time ago, when far-right social media activist Alex Stein and others whom witnesses described as Proud Boys began shouting “eyepatch McCain” at him – an attempted insult coined by Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson.

A witness to the incident tells Mediaite that in addition to Stein and others being escorted out of the building, “some arrests” were made at the scene. No photos or video have come out showing any at the time of this post.

“They got physical with multiple people, including hitting them with cameras,” a witness at the scene said. “His campaign manager was assaulted by being pushed aggressively into a pillar.”

You can see that part in the video above, which was shared by Stein and his blog. That version included a clip from Tucker Carlson’s show, in which the host refers to Crenshaw as “Eyepatch McCain” while speaking with Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.

In a photo shared with Mediaite, some of the ejected persons are seen outside the building wearing Proud Boys gear.

Another Twitter user posted video of himself verbally accosting Rep. Crenshaw. There is no apparent shoving in the clip, but after shouting at the congressman, the user Alex Rosen shouts at various people in the hotel calling the congressman a “fraud” and a “World Economic Forum sell-out.” Another person applauds and shouts back that Crenshaw supports Red Flag laws.

In the video, Rosen also yells at an elderly woman that she is the “reason we’re in this situation” after she objects to his behavior.

At the end, another person with him shouts “Dan Crenshaw is a traitor! He needs to be hung for treason!” It may be the same individual seen in the red “45” hat in the above photo that was shared with Mediaite by witness.

Tucker Carlson Cries 'Insurrection' After Colbert Production Crew Arrested At Capitol

Several crew members filming a comedy segment at the U.S. Capitol for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” were charged with unlawful entry earlier this week, leading prominent Republicans including Fox News host Tucker Carlson to falsely cry “insurrection.”

“Last night, producers from Stephen Colbert’s show on CBS committed insurrection at the United States Capitol,” Carlson falsely claimed on his show Friday night.

Carlson was referring to the arrest of seven production crew members for Colbert’s CBS show Thursday night, which was filming a segment in the Capitol with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, a crass puppet voiced by comedian Robert Smigel. Capitol police said Friday that the arrests happened after the building had been closed to visitors and the crew had already been told to leave the building.

Colbert’s team had finished up prearranged interviews with lawmakers and were filming “final comedy elements” in the building’s hallways when the arrests took place, CBS news said in a statement. All seven crew members were slapped with unlawful entry charges.

The arrests quickly became fodder for Republicans looking to distract from this week’s hearings on the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack by falsely equating the arrests of the crew members to the violence of former President Donald Trump’s supporters.

“It’s exactly like what happened on Jan 6., so we’ll take a close look at what the punishments are,” Carlson told his viewers Friday night.

He’s wrong. In the case of Jan. 6, five people died and more than 140 officers were injured after hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory. In the case of Colbert’s crew, they were arrested filming a comedy segment featuring a puppet best known for hurting people’s feelings.

And there were hurt feelings. Congresswoman and QAnon supporter Marjorie Taylor Greene took a photo of comedian Smigel with his puppet and posted it to Twitter to whine about “targeted harassment.”

“Now all of you engaged in insurrection & enabled targeted harassment against me and my Republican colleagues,” Greene tweeted. “I’m telling the full story next week.”

Disinformation merchant and Pizzagate peddler Mike Cernovich echoed a similar talking point on Twitter.

“If they aren’t charged criminally the same as J6 defendants, then more evidence of selective prosecution arises,” Cernovich said in a tweet. “Judges can only rig stuff so much before the judiciary loses all legitimacy. Throw the book at these trespassers.”

And Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) took the opportunity to compare Colbert’s production crew being in the Capitol to a tour Loudermilk gave to Jan. 6 participants one day before the violence ensued.

“So while they’re accusing me of giving illegal tours of the Capitol, they are giving illegal tours of the Capitol,” Loudermilk said, accusing Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of allowing the production crew access.

The difference, of course, is that comedian Smigel was armed with a microphone, and one of the men Loudermilk gave a tour to was later seen marching on the Capitol, filming an accomplice who was armed with a spear while making targeted threats against lawmakers.

Nice piece on how McCarthy's decision to have nothing to do with the Jan. 6 committee in an attempt to discredit it as partisan is blowing up in his face.

Because not only are he and Republicans more broadly in the dark (Kinzinger and Cheney aren't sharing anything) so they have to react and figure out strategies in real time, but he essentially gave up the ability for the Republican party (again, outside of Kinzinger and Cheney, who are not in lock-step with the GOP on this topic) to turn this into the usual committee nonsense where someone like Gym Jordan (though not specifically him) spends 5+ minutes when it's turn to rail about the kangaroo court and Hunter Biden's laptop and waste time to distract from the findings.

Wisconsin’s Sen Ron Johnson wanted to hand-deliver a slate of fake “alternate” Electoral College voters to Vice President Mike Pence on the morning of January 6, according to a new set of text messages revealed by the January 6 committee on Tuesday.

In a conversation obtained by the committee and shared publicly for the first time on Tuesday an aide to Mr Johnson told Mr Pence’s legislative director Chris Hodgson that the senator had the information to hand-deliver to the vice president when the latter was on Capitol Hill for the certification of the election later in the day.

The aide to Mr Pence flatly rejected the request, according to the text messages. Mr Pence roundly dismissed the idea that he had constitutional authority to accept any fake sets of electors that were not the lawfully-submitted results from state legislatures in the weeks leading up to January 6.
