    Question Computer chair recommendations

I currently have a DX Racer Formula F08-N but after 5 years the leather has started to peel, I’m looking to buy a new chair but am stuck in which to buy. I have been looking at Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 but have read it is uncomfortably firm, is this the case? And can anyone recommend any alternatives at or under the same price point?

Personal opinion: Gamer chairs are just marketing, you'd be better buying an ergonomic office chair.

I was recommended the IKEA Markus and IKEA Jarvfjallet for my price range, but seeing the price of that Secretlab chair you could possibly get something better.

Also I recommend not getting anything with leather on it tbh. ALL the chairs I've had that had "leather" on them have horrible quality and start peeling after a while, and also suck to sit on in hot weather ;P

I have a dream of getting a Herman Miller Embody, but the bugger costs €1600 here, and even if/when I can afford it, I'd feel bad for spending so much on a chair lol.

I have a Secret Lab chair, they were on sale for like 50% off at the time. They are actually pretty nice, when you first get it, it will seem firm, but after a month or so it's actually really really comfortable. I've had it for over a year now.

I can't really say what alternatives I'd look at, I've seen many of them in one form or another out at stores and they all seem super cheap to me, the Secret Lab was not, it's also pretty lowkey, so not really a "gamer chair". I'm a proponent of going for office chairs as well, but there is a caveat, they are just as expensive or more expensive than most "gamer" branded stuff. And the chairs that aren't that expensive are cheap quality.

Perfect, that’s good to know, I expected it would break in and get softer but was just worried that even broken innit would be uncomfortable.

But a decent office chair will last you 10+ years as opposed to 5 for a gaming chair

    Gaming chairs are a gimmick.

Any suggestions for a better alternative at the same or lower price?

A good chair will last a long time vs a crappy chair. Some "gamer chairs" are crap and charge too much, but some are actually worth their buy in price. "Office chairs" are exactly the same way. Roll down to office space and get a 150 dollar chair and it isn't lasting more than a few years either, just like the gaming chairs.
Remember a bunch of reputable office furniture makers are getting into "gamer" chairs and those chairs aren't cheap crap. So it really depends on what you buy, research your purchases and remember things have a cost for a reason. Sometimes that's because of branding and marketing and sometimes it's costs and materials. Up to the consumer to not got taken for a ride.

Buy the most expensive professional office chair you can afford from a company specifically making 24-hour task &/or professional chairs. It will last forever and your body will be better off for it.

Premium mattresses, shoes, make-up, and functional furniture are worth the investment.

Can't stress enough how important this is.

A lot of cheaper chairs specifically exclude use for extended hours from their warranty. And of course that's effectively code for "this won't last long".

Yes it's expensive to get a pro-level office chair, but a good one will be VERY sturdy and last a long, long time. Not only will you not need to buy a new one every few years that way, but chances are the sturdy build also means it's more comfortable, because parts don't start yielding or squeaking etc. a year into the chair.

A lot of the gamer chairs are just shit chairs marked way up though. So typically you'll get a better product buying an office chair than a gamer chair for the same price

Try with office chairs. They are much better quality and cheaper. I am currently using Diablo V Dynamic.

This chair has been the best chair I've ever had. The individually wrapped coil springs in the seat area make for much better prolonged gaming sessions.

Just this. If you are fine with something that lasts only a few year, amazon has plenty of economic office chairs that will do the work. No need to spend 200+ on a chair that's not what is says to be.

Because it has the shape of a racer seat doesn't mean it's good.

i bought the typical "gaming" chair and its a fraud...im tall and it is super uncomfortable and it pressures the back of my legs and after a few hour it's like a torture...I recomend you to TRY other office chairs or even a single sofa because it's much more comfortable to play on it if u adapt the space

I’m currently searching for a new chair too, have an appointment with the only Herman miler dealer in my city on monday to finally try between the Aeron and the Embody (which is my dream chair since I learned about HM a few years ago). If I don't like any of them I’ll go for a steelcase gesture. I’m 6’6’’ for 240lbs, trying a chair is almost mandatory before buying.

I decided I was done with mediocre chairs, I don’t have a terrible gaming one but still not a good one. Premium chairs are expensive but it’s probably the best investment toward your PC desk. The warranty alone covers 10 years, the chair itself should easily pass 15. What hardware will still be on or under your desk in 15y ?

And in case of need there is a market for used to resell, unlike your 400$ gaming chair.

On the pricier end, but I've been extremely happy with the Zuri Gates Leather Executive Chair (zurifurniture.com/office/gates-office-chair). It's real leather, super comfortable, has padded arm rests, and a headrest. I settled on this after looking at all the "gaming chair" options, like the ones you list above, and the ones that others note in this thread. I've had it for almost two years now, no issues whatsoever.

    All of this.

Gaming chairs are a gimmick and are lower build quality than any real office chair. Office chairs have been made for long sitting sessions except they've been supported by actual corporations, not just some random new company saying their chairs are great for EPIC 1337 haxx0r gaming sessions!

Frankly, I've wanted a Herman Miller Aeron for some years and my parents recently did a major office upgrade by going to a used place that gets furniture from offices that either sell it all or replace it all. They got a "used" Aeron that I swear looks and feels brand new for $600. A chair that goes for nowadays anywhere from $1200-1800 new, for only $600! I'm seriously thinking I might finally bite the bullet. I have had an IKEA Patrik for some years and it's been great, but I think it is time for the upgrade. Plus the Aeron BREATHES. Holy crap can I say gaming chairs don't know what breathing is. It's horrible, especially in the summer.

Please OP, anything but a gaming chair. Whether you go IKEA or go the king brand Herman Miller, anything but gaming!

Best of luck! I'm not quite as tall as you, I'm a very short 6'2" but my weight has gradually gone back up the past couple years and I am sitting hefty around 290 pounds, so I feel it's best to get the heavier weight version for the Aeron, for instance.

But what you said here is totally right, in bold, no gaming chair will have resale value or last upwards of 15 years.

    Herman Miller will.

Whatever model or type you go for - make sure you have the option to test it for a few days and return it.
