Poll: If there a new Starcraft Game its not a RTS - I feel...

    If there is a new Starcraft Game and it is...

    no RTS, how would you feel/think about that? Lets say they wouldnt have canceled the Starcraft Shooter, they developed the last couple Years. How would you feel about an announcement like that?

    Starcraft as a universe isn't that interesting. As IP it's pretty bland. It's not just a derivative of 40k, but it's also that since then countless other games have pursued the space western vibe. Not to mention that Warhammer 40k's latest race is highly inspired on the Terran aesthetics again.

    What makes Starcraft interesting is the visceral and incredibly balanced gameplay mechanics. Legacy of the Void came out 7 years ago and pro players are still coming up with new tricks. Other games don't offer that.

    I would not care. The setting the of the game is irrelevant- if you make a good shooter, adventure, RTS, RPG, et cetera that is all that matters.

    What @Iain said. Starcraft isn't very interesting, and the story is already over. The creators of SC have long since moved on and I don't trust the people at new Blizzard to create enjoyable games.

    I don't really care about what genre it is.

    If only Blizzard actually took their full force of skill to create the SC:Ghost MMO, it would of been a game changer before all those games that showed you can do guns in an MMORPG like Destiny and the like we have now.
    Still feel sad sometimes thinking about what we (possibly) lost.

    Kind of sad the franchise is currently rotting. It has a lot of potential.

    Hopefully MS picks up the ball when the merger is complete.

    Afraid its a combination of what @Iain said and the fact that we have too many sci-fi space games now. They missed their chance and now its too late. Starcraft as an IP is pretty much done.

    Out of the original big Blizzard titles, SC and WC took the most incredible liberties in creative inspiration from other well-established franchises. I guess back in the 90's when the gaming industry was a roughly a few garage gangs of developers doing it mostly for fun, that was OK. Today, it is most certainly not.

    SC universe is shallow and feels even more so a replica. If they ever get back to it, they gotta step up their story telling and lore creating to make it unique.

    So back to the original question, the only thing SC has going for it is the pretty impressively balanced tripolar RTS experience. If they try something else, they need some really good writers before even starting to code.

    Pretty sure Warcraft wasn't that interesting either until WC3 came along.

    Let explore what gendres fould be fitting for Starcraft universe.
    - RTS: for sure it is.
    - 4X / grand strategy: they are more popular strategy games than RTS right now, but not such much in asian audience. But I would really love it and that would really fit.
    - Mobile "kingdom builder": so stuff like Rise of Kingdoms etc. You may not like it, but Blizzard showed us already that something like this is very likely to happen. And if they would decide to create a game in its gendre, StarCraft may fit more than Warcraft I think.
    - MMORPG: oh that would be gorgerous, but also quite unlikely unless designed very differently from WoW, could be more similar to Destiny, so maybe that way it could work.
    - Hero shooter: unlikely becouse of Overwatch.
    - AAA RPG / Action Game: would be surely singleplayer focused game which Blizzard rather doesn't into.
    - H&S: Look Diablo.
    - Tactical turn based RPG: where you command whole team, something like X-COM, could fit, but rather not as major title.

    Any other ideas?

    Still, I wouldn't mind a game like the Ghost multiplayer mode. Class-based combat, vehicles, capturing a command center and then defending it while it slowly flies towards your base...

    Sounds damn fun. Doesn't need the Starcraft IP for it though.

    Yeah, balancing a game around 4v4 matches. It's the most popular mode in WC3 right now. The thing is, WC3 was never truly balanced around 4v4. I mean, it's balanced, but so much more can be done with a RTS that is designed on the premise that there will be 4 players fighting against 4 other players, each with different races that can synergise together.

    It's how I could see Starcraft 3 and Warcraft 4 emerge. Both pure multiplayer strategy games, no singleplayer campaigns. Maybe with 8 to 12 races that all have a much more narrow range of units and buildings but with deeper specializations. Each race doing one particular thing extremely well and depending on the other players to either double down on the specialisation or fill in its weaknesses.

    It's basically a hybrid of a conventional RTS and a MOBA.

    Looter shooter like Destiny 1/2 would be an option they could explore and potentially make a good game.

    I could see them copying Darktide / Vermintide and doing a co-op. Maybe expanding on some of the units from the RTS as player classes

    Player options
    - Ghost
    - Dark Templar
    - Marine
    - Zealot
    - Mind-controlled Hydralisk

    I mean, I would definitely play it.

    Seeing how starcraft ended i don't really care about it anymore.

    I still think a Planetside-ish Starcraft with heavy emphasis on AI semi player-controlled mobs could work. Like, there's a big map with 3 bases and various resources, you play as a marine/zealot/hydralisk etc. and each player is able to to give simple commands to a couple of mobs. Then your side can use resources to upgrade your base/player/AI units. Kinda like an FPS MOBA except you have more control over minions and it's on much larger scale, maybe 10v10v10 or 20v20v20.

    But then Blizzard is washed and I wouldn't trust them to make an ambitious game again.

    I would be fine with it not being a rts. I want a multi character control MMO based in the Starcraft universe and while I think it would be cool if it had a rts mode in it it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it didn't.

    Let’s be honest the next “StarCraft” game from blizzard is probably gonna be a mobile game stuffed with micro transactions.
    Better the fanchise stays dead then gets revived as an abomination towards its root.

    I like this idea a lot, could have a set of Protoss classes and Terran ones

    Protoss: zealot Adept, HT, DT, sentry, Archon and even dragoon/immortal at a push

    Terran: Reaper, ghost, marine, firebat, marauder and medic
