This is a BIG win for Democrats.

Could you imagine how badly Trump would have botched the negotiations?
It's been delayed at most, the Union's still need to vote to accept the proposal.

Trump would have done nothing, let the strike occur, then blame the far left.

Who is running the country when granpa is flustered?

Why does it feel like Democrats are losing the Hispanic vote?

    A capable bureaucracy.

Even in a dictatorship like Russia most of the work is passed off to underlings.

Because "the Hispanic vote" is not a monolith and includes a bunch of groups with various interests. You have Cubans in Florida who dislike the idea of immigration reform because they benefit from the existing system, you have emigres from places like Venezuela who buy into the Republicans constantly labeling the Democrats as socialists, etc.

On the whole, however, Latino voters tend to trend more progressive when it comes to matters of policy; they overwhelmingly support things like the ACA and are pro-choice. The Democrats aren't 'losing' the Latino vote on a macro level, but certain sectors of that vote which already tended to be swing votes or lean Republican have grown.

Probably still Joe Biden. He's joining a long line of presidents who make mistakes like this.

Like that time George Bush got locked in a room -

Or one of the multiple times Trump showed up for a document signing event with the press and then walked out before actually like, signing the document -

I'm sure if the country survived those mistakes, it will survive this one.

Not even you believe that. He keeps asking god know who, to tell him what to do, say, go, publicly showing he is not in charge.

Also there is a difference between doing a stupid mistake n inability where one has to constantly babied around like granpa that should be in a home.

I'm sure there is, but I'm not certain what relevance this has here. This isn't the Trump thread -

I just really like this song, it's a banger.

In which you make it clear you don't understand that yes, there's an "army" of hired, non-partisan bureaucratic officials that carry out the day-to-day operations of the nation regardless of which party holds the White House, House, or Senate.

They're crucial in ensuring consistent, normal operations between changes in administration etc.

A direct democracy? No, there's not. But why is that the measure/bar? We can hardly get folks to vote in presidential elections, you think they'll show up for regular votes every few weeks/months?

Do you not understand how government works? Are you implying even the janitors should be elected?

A person working a job can be removed from that job. In the case of government, a person will be removed through a superior who is often an elected person.

*Points to every stupid thing Trump did in his 4 years, from him trying to stare at a solar eclipse to needing to be walked down a gentle ramp, from him helping kill a million Americans to failing a trade war.*

    https://truthout.org/articles/poll-f...s-on-the-rise/

Bit of a silly comparison given that Trump's not in office but -

According to an NBC poll released on Sunday, only about one in three Americans say they approve of Trump as of mid-September. About 34 percent of the survey’s 1,000 registered voter respondents said they approve of the former president, while 54 percent said they disapprove.

This is the lowest approval for Trump that NBC has recorded since April of 2021, when only about 32 percent of voters said they approved of him. While Trump’s approval shot up to 38 percent last August, his approval rate has been steadily declining ever since, NBC finds.

As Trump’s approval has declined, Biden’s approval has increased. After hitting lows of about 41 and 42 percent this summer, Biden’s approval rating is bouncing back, hitting 45 percent in the publication’s most recent survey.

While Biden’s overall approval rating is still in the negatives, with 52 percent of voters saying they view him negatively, it’s been on an upward trend as gas prices have gone down and Biden has announced major initiatives like canceling up to $20,000 of student debt for certain debtors.
This isn't a huge brag, Biden is still majority unpopular even if he's seen a boost in his support recently. But worth noting that his numbers are still much higher overall compared to Trump's.

But there's a bit more salient of a data point -

The poll also finds that Democrats in general are experiencing a boost over Republicans — thanks in part to the far right’s attacks on abortion and education. Still, voters are evenly split over who they want to control Congress after this year’s midterm elections, with 46 percent saying they prefer Republican control and 46 percent saying they prefer Democratic control.
Which given that we know the incumbents party usually performs poorly in the midterm after being elected, those numbers aren't bad.

Now for the bad news for Trump -

Indeed, the poll found that a majority of voters — 56 percent — said that the investigation into the documents should continue, while 41 percent, largely Republicans, said they should stop. These results echo those of other polls that similarly find that Americans support the investigation, while Trump’s favorability ratings have dropped in the weeks following the search.
Americans still support the investigation into his mishandling of classified documents in a majority, with only a minority of primarily Republicans arguing that Trump should be above the law and that the Republican party is not the party of law and order. Worse still -

Polls on related issues also suggest that Trump’s popularity is low; earlier this month, Reuters/Ipsos found that nearly 6 in 10 Americans agree that Trump’s Make America Great Again movement is a threat to democracy, in line with experts who say that Trump is playing a major part in leading the Republican Party in its embrace of fascism.
That's a very comfortable majority viewing Trump's cult as the real threat to democracy that it is.

It always amazes me when Trump supporters use this line, since the guy you support is almost as old, morbidly obese and has a long history of going on senseless rants, forgetting things, not being able to says words properly etc.

It might be amazing if it hadn't already been established years ago that MAGAts don't live in the same reality as the rest of us...and that every accusation they make is just an admission.

If nothing else, it expresses how little many people understand about how the country actually operates on a day-to-day basis.

So, MTG decided to finally do it and introduce Articles of Impeachment against President Biden. For selling oil from the Strategic Oil Reserve.

    Link to the actual AoI.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Introduces Articles of Impeachment for Joe Biden: He is ‘Selling Our Oil’

Controversial Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced articles of impeachment on Monday to remove President Joe Biden from office for “draining our reserves and selling our oil.”

Greene released a short clip online Monday night explaining why she wants Biden removed from office.

“I just introduced articles of impeachment on President Joe Biden. Joe Biden is selling our strategic petroleum reserves. This should never happen. He is draining our reserves and selling our oil, Americans’ oil to foreign countries,” Greene says in the clip.

“And China is the top buyer. China is our enemy. They are not our friend. They’re buying American’s oil. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is our emergency supply for if something goes wrong in this country,” she continues, adding:

It’s now down to 434 million barrels of oil. That is nearly half of what it was when President Trump left office.

This is an outrage. This is completely wrong. And no president of the United States should be doing this to the American people. It’s going to create a national emergency crisis. And that’s exactly what President Joe Biden is doing. This is the number, H.R. 1362 to impeach Joe Biden.

Congress.gov does indeed list an H.Res. 1362 introduced by Rep. Greene. The resolution includes 3 articles and reads, “Impeaching Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States, for endangering, compromising, and undermining the energy security of the United States by selling oil from the United States’ Strategic Petroleum Reserve to foreign nations.”

Biden began pumping from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in November 2021 with the aim of lowering energy prices.
I've stated this in another thread, every president for the past 40 years now has had AoIs against them for various reasons. Sometimes yearly.

If they take control they'll practically impeach Biden weekly, just so they can go "Biden is the most impeached President" and save Trump from that shame.

Question for MMO's FIRST favorite lawyer. If it somehow does pass, and found "not guilty" in the Senate, does Double Jeopardy apply?
