Obviously, I meant money that goes into the sport. Even then it has to be invested wisely. On one hand, you got USA and Canada with leagues that hardly even counted as pro leagues until recently, but then they know how to spend money smart to maximize the development and they are reaping the rewards now (though they aren't very likely to play an important part on this WC yet). On the other hand, you have China that pumped ridiculous amounts of money into its league for zero benefit, at least as far as their national team's performance goes. Their league is probably successful commercially and this may very likely be the only thing their federation and club owners care about, but their national team is garbage and doesn't seem to show any signs of progress.

Soccer in Canada hasn't even been a reality up until maybe 10 years ago. Once MLS started in NA, and you have this whole generation of kids who've come up now that come from backgrounds where the game is a big part of their parents past time, the emergence of these young star players would eventually happen. I'm honestly surprised it's happened as quickly as it has. I think if this Canadian team can advance to the round of 16, I'd consider that a huge win and the next WC they will be poised to be even better.

Not true.... Stadium capacity was upgraded so the attendance figures are no longer higher :'D

That's some upgrade, would need to double the capacity to explain how they had more people present than their official capacity figure while being half empty.

We lucked out, Canada had our number, especially in that first half. Was also pretty unimpressed with the refereeing trio tbh. How they can give offside on that bad back pass from Hazard or how Canada ended the game with 11 (that scissor tackle on Openda O_O ) are misteries to me.
