Let's face it: Famous developers go out, leave their old company they had massive successes in, create a new company where they have a respectable first game that critics and players like, but it's not a big success.
And then you won't hear of them again. This is what happened to dozens of those gaming studios over the last 30 years.
And in this case they seem to even skip the first game.
I still check their site time to time.
Their careers page has different openings so, they are doing something.
Like all of "ex-blizzard" companies it’s mostly a hobby project/tax optimisation thing.
It’s old rich dudes who just want to "go to work" instead of just staying home doin nothin. No real project was in mind.
They will make some sort of game that they will be incredibly proud of. They release it and it will bomb. The end.
It is pretty interesting that their website has 0 news since 2018. Maybe they are too busy making the game to release any PR.. /shrug. But you'd think SOME news would help with recruiting talent.
SENIOR GAMEPLAY SOFTWARE ENGINEER - They have an opening right now.
let's check it again in month or two.

SENIOR GAMEPLAY SOFTWARE ENGINEER
SENIOR/PRINCIPAL 3D ENVIRONMENT ARTIST
http://www.bonfirestudios.com/careers
Two openings after 1.5 month.
Great, it seems they are alive and doing something!
Did you ever play the first two Diablo games? The second has bugs they've NEVER fixed until current day. They just left them in so long the players eventually half forgot they were bugs and just consider them features. Hell, the hammerdin spec is an ascended bug. Don't know what that is? Tvtropes.
The most difficult thing to do is accept that there is nothing wrong with things you don't like and accept that people can like things you don't.
They were still part of Blizzard and D2 is often used as a shining example of Blizzard's quality. Blizzard Irvine had a lot of sway and control over Blizzard North. If not for Irvine, Diablo 1 would have been a turn based SP only game. If Irvine really cared about bug free, ready when they are ready software, most of their games would have been released years later than they did including both Diablo's from North and WoW.
It was just a PR term. While Blizzard has a reputation for polished, well playing games, they still shipped with tons of bugs that shouldn't have been there if they were ready when they were ready, because many of their games were not, and still are not ready.
After almost two months,
New positions:
DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
SENIOR GAMEPLAY SOFTWARE ENGINEER
http://www.bonfirestudios.com/careers
Great, so this studio is alive and doing something. If they are hiring for ext. communication this means something is almost cooked.
No new openings for 02.02.2023
Strange
Meanwhile, Frost Giant Studios' Stormgate is chugging along nicely.
I do find it mildly amusing to call your studio Bonfire studios while burning through money with no obvious end product in sight
I would assume it's due to the fact they just formed the company and the first few years are spent in concept stages, building up developer numbers etc. I wouldn't expect a game announcement from any of these ex-Blizzard companies for a long while.
They were the first ones of "ex-Blizzard" guys with Second Dinner to start a studio...
It's really strange that we don't have anything about them
