Michigan House Votes to Repeal rIgHT-To-wORk Law

What's it like when you hand control of your government to the Democraic Party? Well fixing all the stuff the GOP broke for starters...

Michigan House Democrats passed legislation Wednesday night over GOP objections to deliver on a key promise to union activists: repealing the state's right-to-work law.

The law, established by Republicans in 2012, allows workers in unionized jobs to opt out of paying union dues and fees. Michigan — a state steeped in labor history — could become the first state in nearly 60 years to ditch its right-to-work law.

The House also voted to restore a construction-industry “prevailing wage” law the GOP repealed in 2018.

Right to work, yeah. You really gotta hand it to the Republicans, they know how to brand things to make you believe something totally against your best interests is actually a good thing for you.

    It's insidious.

On the surface, it is fine; but the problem is the Republicans also tend to push the requirement that the Union has to protect non-member employee as they protector members. Meaning that you get all the protections of a Union Member without being a Union Member. The purpose of Right-to-Work is to make it so you aren't forced to join a Union against your will, nor be required to be a fee payer to the Union because you choose not to join.

But, it is just a form of Union busting, they don't care about the benefits it appears to give a worker.

National MEdia has always done a bunch of free PR for GOP proposals by just reprinting them, in good faith.

alot of workers liked right to work, unions defend people who are bad at their job/create a hostile work environment. now for some jobs you are forced to give a percent of your salary outside taxes so that someone not doing as good as you can keep their job. it will just create resentment. clearly if working class people actually supported union they wouldnt all vote red anyways its just a pointless gesture for upper class liberals to feel like they are helping the poors

If you don't want to be in a union, why do you deserve the protections and benefits of the union you're not paying for? Shouldn't you just choose to work at a non-unionized workplace?

The point of right to work was always because very few people would choose to join a union if they can get all the benefits of a union without paying for them. Nobody pays the dues, the union dies, and now the employer has absolute power to abuse employees. Right to work would only be acceptable if the non-paying employees were denied the benefits that the union provided.

Right To Work is the same garbage as libertarianism. Wanting all the benefits without paying for it. Literally the meaning of wanting a handout while decrying that having to pay for it is theft.

My former conservative buddy used to get all mad when I called his dad a POS freeloader becasue his dad used to brag about all the benefits and better wages us union job provided him despite not being part of the union. All these laws do is try to cripple unions and dumb ass conservatives love it while working their severely underpaid, overworked jobs, but are okay with it becasue they can own the libs and blame brown people.

And the stupid part is that by all rights, libertarians should be against "right-to-work" laws, at least as long as they claim to value freedom of association.
