Maybe they should. Maybe they need to accept that they're gonna tank a few election cycles in order to try and get things back on track, and save the country. Sacrifice power for a few years intentionally to keep some chance of their party existing decades from now.

I don't think they will, mind you, but maybe they should.

Even the RNC has a limit, and we'll find out soon enough if Trump pretending there are no Republicans but Trump (i.e. skipping the primaries) is enough.

For the record, I think Trump has put himself in a horrible situation, and I couldn't be happier. He can't run on his record, he did nothing but lose for six years, he's possibly being indicted by the feds and/or Georgia before the first debate, and he'd have to pledge to support the winner even if it's not him. Like, what do you do when applying for a new job when you burned down the old one on purpose? Pretend it didn't happen, or admit it? He has voters, but the RNC might decide "there are levels of survial we are prepared to accept".
We've had 4 years of the of familiy knowing he punched Jenny. They have shown 0 signs of legit dropping Trump.

This thread is full weekly, if not daily, of example of mainstream Republicans who still fully support Trump and his cult.

At some point we need to stop thinking that maybe this time, they will give a shit.

    'save the country'.
There is your mistake. The GOP doesn't want to save the country. They exist only to enrich themselves and their donors. As they show time and time again by utterly refusing to govern at every opportunity.

What? no, the GOP is full of full blown Trump cultists or those who atleast claim to be. Nor will the voters suddenly lose their deeply rooted beliefs.
If Trump dies tonight they simply flock to the next crazy man, likely DeSantis, and they will completely forget they were going to war against him 24 hours earlier.

Trump isn't the cause of the insanity we see, he is a symptom. Removing him won't change the problem plaguing America, it just leads to someone who isn't quite as able to appeal to those people or, more worryingly, someone who can but is not as grossly incompetent.

Nah desantis doesn't have the brood appeal. There is no glue besides Trump. Yeah they are all crazy, but most of these people hate each other, and they constently shit on other republicans. Trumpers hating McConnells, Romney's hating Marges. Hell Boerbert and Marge hate each other. The only thing keeping the party together is Trump, it's obvious. There is a reason it's called a Cult.

He is right, though. If Trump dropped dead, they would find someone new to rally around. Because as much as they may hate each other, they hate the evil atheist communist baby-murdering border-destroying child-grooming leftists even more...

It doesn't really matter that someone like DeSantis is just an empty suit with negative charisma, since at that point he'd be their best shot for obtaining/maintaining power...as pathetic as that is.

There used to be a party called the Whigs. They were once one of our two major parties. They are gone now. Because guess what? Just because they want to hold on power doesn't mean they have a chance in hell without Trump to give them said power.

Sure. I never said that crystalizing around some different post-Trump asshole would make them a viable party again. Just that they can/will find a new figurehead once he's gone.

You have to remember that Trump himself never actually won anything...and he never had the support of the majority of the country (or at least the majority of voters). Clinging to power despite being a minority party is nothing new for the GOP, and unless the Dems can actually step up and make substantive change re:voting rights, it will continue to be true for the foreseeable future.

Which is why the Republicans are going so hard on voter suppression. Because they know they can't win a completely fair open election and they can't survive a pivot away from the rabid fanbase they themselves created, who now controls them instead.

Trump won his primary, Trump will win the primary again.

Mark Meadows took a plea deal for limited immunity, to testify against Trump in the documents and Jan 6th case.

Yes, the base controls the party, and Trump controls the base. The party has no control at all, no power at all. Hense, the party is dead without Trump. The voter suppression supports my argument, because it is literally them showing even THEY know how fucked they truly are.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say...federal indictment by the end of the month.

Word on the street is, the grand jury is meeting tomorrow to vote. Indictment could come as soon as tomorrow for Espionage and Obstruction of Justice for just the documents case.

Also, coming across the news just now on MSNBC, Steve Bannon was just subpoenaed in the Jan 6th case by Jack Smith.

So he's pleading guilty to perjury? But they somehow believe he's a reliable witness now to give him limited immunity?

It's not so much trusting his word, it's likely more about corroborated and verification on material about Trump.

Yep, and I hope he doesn't let him squirm around like the J6 committee did, and they rush this through the courts when he doesn't comply, and they force him to. If he doesn't, I hope he enjoys more time in prison for contempt.

If he died of a heart attack, right here, right fucking now, I will bet my left nut there would be a vocal group online wailing that he'll be back on Friday.

Few more people get hauled in, you're gonna see some shit.
You think some people are pushing for Trump now?
Dangle a presidential pardon before them with Agent Smith closing in and anyone tangentially involved with Don's antics magically becomes Ted Cruz stumping for the man who called his wife ugly.

Federal prosecutors have notified Donald Trump in a letter that he is the target of a criminal investigation, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Is it time to finally bust out the Ron Paul gifs?
