I’d say it’s like an 80% chance. It’s very likely, but there’s still a decent chance that it could be something else.
Iirc there was an interview or post where one of the leads said the next expansion would be more “going back to our roots” or something along those lines. If I could remember the exact quote I could provide a link, but I’ll come back and edit if I find it.
It seems to me that they want to have a more grounded expansion with a lot less of the cosmos stuff. We also had minor references to the Dragon Isles in BFA with Wrathion and his Agents andthe Island expeditions where I believe some of the quests you could hinted at it (people searching for them), with them stating back then that some of those quests were for stories they intended in the future.
If you combine that with the “dragon pack” store deal which, while not 100% confirmation, matches up with how store stuff tends to predict the expansion, and the data mined potential CE items, it seems to all add up to it being the next one.
After all, what’s more grounded in fantasy than a fantastical dragon island?
If you combine this with Azeroth’s awakening like some of the leaks seem to hint at, you could also have some great world building on the cosmic level, so the next baddie at that level doesn’t feel as much of an asspull. You can also sprinkle in void and light stuff dealing with how Neltharion got corrupted into Deathwing, leading into a real Black Empire expansion, or a light crazed Alliance Crusade expansion.
I see it as very plausible. The only other real thing I could see it being is a void/light expansion immediately after, but I think they probably want a break from cosmic stuff.
It's as likely as Shadowlands was ever going to be an expansion. Even if it wasn't '9.0', we knew it was an eventual location to explore since it was seeded in the lore.
What the Shadowlands ended up being, no one could really say. Same with Dragon Isles; we just know it's in the plans, which makes it more than likely to happen. Just don't know what it will be, or when it will happen.
the 'dragon isles' will be a floating land mass with 5 zones, each dedicated to a dragon flight. similar to shadowlands, you will choose a flight to progress through to unlock that flights abilities. it will be a cookie cutter of covenants with some qol tweaking. unlike SL, you will be encouraged to progress through all the flights in order to gain enough power to progress through end expansion content. the grind of all flights will take months/years to complete. the hamster wheel keeps turning. flying will be gatelocked again, but each zone will have a unique transporting ability to make each zone feel unique while questing. class sets are back, they will be legendary sets with heavy influence on dragon scale styles. main baddie is N'zoth, through wrathion and a few other key dragons. we will fight 'the mad dragons' through several raids, slowly rebuilding the flights to full strength. through the final patch we fight in the forge of origination which will lead us to a void lord centric expansion to follow.

100% chance.
Don't believe anyone who claims the opposite.
There's no other large and significant landmass left in azeroth and the dragon isles were name dropped in BFA for a reason.
And definitely don't believe any nimbrod who claims a world revamp without new zones or continent will also happen.
I don't know... It's not that I don't want the Dragon Isles thing to be real, but after seeing BfA and Shadowlands... there's a very possible chance they might taint it, or muck up Dragon lore.
Either we might face off against the Infinite Dragonflight and they mess up the timeline... OR... Someone is plotting to bring back Galakrond back from the dead and try to devour all the dragonflights.
Dragon isles pop literally every 2 years in the first low effort "leak" thread.
It's not 100% impossible that one day we'll have a dragon expansion, but it would just be random luck. The current dragon isle thread are just the usual shitpost, not actual leaks. Those comes way closer to actual announcement usually.

Seems pretty likely. BoA reintroduced a the twilight dragons and sets up a mystery about the Dragon Isles. Plus the expansion collectors edition is a emerald drake....
