Just figured I should post this as a heads up for anyone who is looking build soon. You may want to get the drives sooner than later.
*Edit*
I screwed up the title and can't edit it now. Damn.

Oh wow... I feel really bad.... not because of the HDDs but like one of the commentors on that site mentioned... all of the people who are surely out of jobs at this point. This is really too bad.

Though I have to say.... looks like Samsung was far less affected, they may be affected by not getting motors or something, but this might be their chance to truly solidify their spot in the market over Seagate and WD especially for good/now.
That's very unfortunate. I can do without the hard drives. Here's to hoping they get the situation straightened out in a timely manner and not too many people lose their jobs/lives!
Its good information to know since Western Digital is my primary manufacturer for hard drives I sell in store. Guess I'll be placing a large order to tide me over until the factory is back on track for 2012.
Hopefully their is no loss of life from this event.
Maybe I should buy these Caviar Greens I wanted for media storage now.. :/
Altough there's a chance prices won't go up. The article didn't mention anything about Seagate or Samsung. Maybe WD will keep the same prices to avoid customers buying products from their competetion.
After the batch of bad Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 hard drives in 2010 / 2011 I flat out refuse to order them through my store now. Not due to their being a bad batch but rather the service I received from Seagate when it came time to RMA the 22 drives I had in stock.
I've already placed a large order of WD drives in the event of a shortage.
This is pretty much for every brand. Seagate manufactures the Samsung HDD's.

I just double checked my distributors website for Western Digital hard drive pricing.....And we were correct in assuming a price hike, my 500GB's just went up by $12 a drive and 1TB's have gone up $20 a drive. Expect Newegg and other sites to follow shortly.
Gonna buy a Samsung Spinpoint the 25th. Hopefully prices won't change till then.

Holy crap! WD Caviar Blacks have skyrocketed! Weren't they like $70~ before? $120 now..... eesh!!!
Glad I don't need a drive at the moment... Things will settle back down to normal eventually (I hope)

This totally sucks im down to my last 30gigs and wont have money to get a new one till right after all the prices are hiked up.
just 1tb in addition to my ssd's
Bugger, guess I'll have to cannibalize my desktop for a harddrive if I decide to finally make a media PC =/
I didn't actually read the article, anyone wanna shortform it for me and let me know if SSDs are going to be affected or just HDD? Maybe that cannibalization will be my excuse to finally get an SSD for my desktop...
Im rocking 2.3TB total, 800GB used. But if i do some cleaning, i can save 100GB at least.
Your greed, your foolishness has brought you to this end.
