DAMN! The king is dead, long live the king.

He was arrogant, cocky and got what was coming to him. Hell of a career though. 38 now isn't he?

He was and is one of my favorites along with bisping, rampage and forrest griffin.

He has 10 fights left on his contract...you really don't think he will get another title?

Only watched a short bit of that, but Silva has a weird sense of humor. He obviously wasn't serious, hes just messing around.

Yea, looking at the finish, it does not feel like he gets hit that hard.

It may not look it, but coming from someone who used to practice MMA, it was a really nice and legit hit. I'll explain a bit.

Anderson has a very particular style of fighting, in that he drops his guard and waits on his opponent to make a mistake and then counter up on that. If he gets hit, he will roll his head with the inertia of the punch to take some of the sting off of it, and usually it pays out remarkably for him. What he is also used to is waiting on the hit to come his way and dodge another wild, reckless strike right after that - or just straight up see an opening and take it - from the same angle.

However...Weidman knew this (as echo'd in his numerous post-fight interviews). He had brought in guys that had the game plan to mimic Silva in every cut and corner throughout his whole camp. It worked out remarkably. If you go back and watch a video of the 1st and some of the 2nd round before the KO, you'll see Weidman either do two things (not counting his wrestling): Do a hit and then maneuver back because he knew of the counter Andy was going to throw; OR always throw two continuous hooks/jabs from both hands at different angles. This is what did Anderson in. A few seconds before the knockout, Chris went at Anderson with a right lunging jab from orthodox stance, and naturally Silva dodged it - BUT what he didn't expect was Weidman, right after that jab, switch his stance and hit him with a left hook from Southpaw in the direction Anderson was swaying and bam - it connected beautifully. It wasn't the hardest punch in the world, but it didn't need to be. It hit him right on the button with enough force that it literally twisted his neck, and his eyes rolled back in his head as he sank to the canvas (right before another hit by Weidman came his way when he was already down). Anderson never saw it coming.

It's hits like that that will end fights so abruptly. I would much rather be hit by a punch I'm expecting rather than one I'm not. It hurts x10 more.

Anderson was just Anderson and it didnt work this time. Everyone loved it vs Okami, Forrest, etc but he gets caught and people say he was clowning too much. He does this all the time, it's just Weidman got close enough to hit him.

That being said I'd like for Anderson to stop doing that.

Jones has wanted the fight with Gustaffsson since before Machida/Hendo
Don't think I heard anyone saying Machida would get the title shot just yet?

Wiki says that after turning down the fight agaisnt Jones on UFC 152, Machida lost the chance for an immediate tittle shot.

Still, he's the number one contender.

Doesn't really matter when you annoy Dana White by not making him the dollar dollar bills. Even though it is completely hypocritical, since Jones had just turned down Sonnen, it is what it is. Dana being a punk like he so often is. I get it though. There's a part of me that would love to see guys showing up unprepared to fight anyone and everyone just because they are asked to, but it's a very small and not intelligent part.

Having fights thrown together like that gets people hurt, creates needless risks for a fighter, and most of the time results in a pretty subpar fight. UFC has excelled at what it is does partially through amazing marketing skills, but also because of the caliber of talent they have. A large part of that is allowing proper training regimen so that people can be the best fighter they can be...not accept a match 2 weeks before it happens on a whim.

So yes, you're right. He should be getting the fight, but it's Dana White. Not much more you can say about that.

I know Dana already promised the immediate rematch, even though getting KO'd in the 2nd is as far from a razor thin split decision that you can get that actually might warrant an immediate rematch, I'd prefer to see at least a #1 contenders match between Silva and Belfort. I wouldn't mind a Silva v. Bisping match either since Bisping couldn't manage to get himself a title shot.

I don't know what it is about that guy, but I feel for him. By all accounts I should not like him, but I've always wanted to see him do well. I have this gut feeling he hasn't lived up to his potential for a long time and his window is passing. I'm hoping he can get some good wins and possibly make good on a title shot before he hangs it up.

While his career has been mostly dominant, he seems to lose every big fight he is in. Probably why he has such a bad attitude some times.

Got to love the new middle weight champs attitude really down to earth. Im a big fan of weidman but i think hes about to loose the title in the rematch. Think it will be a hell of a fight though. Strange when such a long term champ finally looses, really weird emotion when i saw him go out, kinda sad and happy at the same time with a smidgem of disbeleif. Also think gsp is about to loose his belt to hendricks. Wonder if gsp will get the insta rematch should he loose?

Don' tthink GSP is going to lose...he's to smart. And not to nitpick, but you really need to learn to spell...it's lose, not loose.
