Well, for starters they are smaller than houses. They also don't have outdoor space, so you can't set garden.

what triggers me is that gardening didn't end up being a new crafting class

Because Stories =/= RPG's. The two are entirely separate. Which is entirely the problem I have with FF 14, the story they're trying to tell and the game they've built are just far too contradictory that they may as well just exist in their own little bubbles.

They've made a rock solid MMORPG, then locked it all away behind a terrible story. The pacing is totally off, the characters are either entirely forgetable or named Mary Sue and there are plot holes so large you could fit an entire country through them. In the words of another FF Protagonist, "This is my story". So why has it been replaced with Alphinaud's Story?

First: I was also a great fan of Terry Pratchett. /thumbsup

Second: I don't get what you want us to tell you?! Most people here seem to enjoy the game with the story narrative you dislike so much. I for one hate WRPGs because they don't tell the story as JRPGs do - so what can I do about it? Go to western RPG fans and ask why they like it, then try to convince them that the way WRPGs are made is just terribly bad? Don't think I can. Because that's what it feels like you are trying to do here.
I get you like FF14 about its gameplay and might have given up on almost every MMORPG-alternative to discuss your point in this manner with us. But I don't think anyone here wants to throw the cake they like away or talk it bad just to comfort you :P

Picked this game up three months ago or so, and have been playing on and off. Finally hit 50 a week ago or so, and just made my way into the expansion area.

Still a complete newbie.

I tried to look into housing but that seemed way out of reach.

My first class to 50 is a paladin, and I decided to check dark knight out a little bit too.

I could never get large house properly decorated, so I'm happy with my small one.

We'll probably grab large house for Free Company once Stormblood is out. If my gathering income is still as good as it's now (or well, before patch), aiming to get my gil up to 40-50 mil before expansion launch.

Was thinking of getting that healer equipment from new Ex dungeons and then doing MSQ as AST.. but then remember'd that I'd need to repeat one same dungeon over and over and over, I'd probably be there doing same dungeon until March patch part #2 since I've horrible luck with dungeon drops.

I guess my current goal is to get to 60, play a little end game then save for a house. Prob do gathering to help with that

Well, we just got major patch (3.5), servers are currently down for maintenance in fact. And next expansion is coming out June 20, 2017.

Would give nice time to wrap up things before expansion arrives.

not sure about leviathan but last time they added more housing they all sold out within 10 min on gilgamesh.

Hope once a month essentially. Gets sold very fast whenever the bulldozing happens.

No, no formal announcements. Houses are put on a timer that after 45 days, they will be auto-demolished. Either the owner or a FC member has to enter the house within that time frame stop to timer.
