Well i got to the 4th zone and i'm halfway through after the first trial and boy does it feel like the first two zones are by the stormblood team and the next two by the shadowbringers team. The tone and style of quests feels so different that "double the amount of content" makes me wonder if thats because there was a lot more people from the past two expansions contributing to it. Boy does it pick up in the 3rd zone especially.

I thought the second zone was also kinda better, heck I don't even mind the Sharlayan that much. They had the same issues as kholusia and amh araeng though, they are not complete zones until way later. In case of 2nd zone I'm just going to say that very much like with Eulmore, the interesting part happens once the story converges at a certain location, the zone itself is .. okay I guess bit nothing to call home about. 3rd is a definitely a massive step up though, agreed.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

I thought Thavnair was good I don't know what you're all on about. The 3rd and 4th zones are a big step up though. Honestly the story is going in a direction I did not expect at all.

Assuming its the same as female viera, the additional optional hairstyles that isn't the one default hairstyle that was added are: Controlled Chaos (restoration scrips), Ponytail (mgp), 2b/9s hairstyle (copied factory), and Snow's (lightning's for female)

I thought Garlemald's MSQ was decent but the sheer amount of mediocre sidequests you had to do (to meet the level and ilevel requirements to continue) was a turn off. The only good sidequests were the one that had you hand out soup and the one with you searching for that boy's parents.

I liked the first part of Thanvair quite a lot, I'm not sure why people didn't like it. Labyrinthos pt 1 definitely feels like the weakest part thusfar, but I'm still midway through Zone 3.

Go do the GC hunts, and spent the currency on aetheryte tickets, never pay for a teleport again! I was worried they were nerfing the tickets but it must have been a mistranslation.

Hello, this is Naoki Yoshida, Producer & Director of FINAL FANTASY XIV.

The congestion that has continued since the start of Endwalker Early Access has been the cause of many inconveniences to our players. Regarding this, we truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation thus far.

I would like to provide an explanation of the current congestion situation, as well as information regarding countermeasures and the compensation of game time.

    ■ Regarding the congestion situation

Currently, all Worlds across all regions have been hitting the login cap for extremely long periods of time, and the progression of login queues is being slowed dramatically. Across the FFXIV service as a whole, the number of simultaneous logins has reached the hardware limit, and as a result, logging in has required an extremely long time, especially during “peak hours” when we tend to see increased player activity. For this, I am truly sorry.

    ■ Regarding game time compensation due to congestion

Considering that we are asking players to wait in queues for extremely long periods of time and the ongoing situation making it difficult to play normally, we have decided that during the official release of Endwalker on December 7, we will be granting 7 days of free game time to all players who own the full version of the game and have an active subscription. This also includes players who are currently playing on the 30-day free play period included when registering the full version of the game and those with multiple accounts.

Furthermore, we may give additional free game time depending on further developments on the congestion situation. The timing at which the free game time will be provided, as well as any additional extensions, will be announced at a later time. We truly appreciate your cooperation and patience regarding the congestion situation.

    ■ Regarding errors that occur while waiting in login queues

When you are waiting in a login queue, an error may cause you to disconnect. Multiple types of cases have been confirmed for this, and I’d like to elaborate on their causes below.

    ・ Error 2002

    There are two primary causes.

The first occurs when attempting to log into a logical data center (such as Aether or Primal) and there are more than 17,000 players in the login queue. This leads to an Error 2002 occurring, resulting in being unable to enter the login queue.

The other occurs when your internet connection experiences packet loss or a period of network instability, causing the server connection to be momentarily disconnected. At the moment, we are seeing more cases caused by this.

Because the waiting times in login queues are long, we believe this increases the chances of encountering internet issues or momentary disconnections.

As you may expect, resolving this issue on a fundamental level would be to resolve the congestion. However, if you are playing using a Wi-Fi connection and are able to switch to a hard-wired internet connection, that would improve connection stability. We ask that you try this method as well.

If you are playing on the PlayStation®4 or PlayStation®5 version, please check your settings related to power saving. If settings relating to disconnecting from the internet, such as standby mode or rest mode are enabled, please note that these may activate while waiting in the login queue, so you may want to adjust your settings.

    ・ Error 4004, 5003, and 5006
These errors occur when your connection to the login management server times out as a result of waiting in a login queue for extremely long periods of time. Although we’d secured a considerably long session time with the lobby server; however, there are times this is still not enough to cover the issue, so we are currently working on a process to extend the session time. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you to wait a little bit longer until this process is complete.

    ■ Peak hours of congestion

Though the congestion status may vary for each logical data center, I’d like to share information regarding the peak hours of congestion we’ve currently observed as of December 5.

    North American Data Center: 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (PST) / 20:00 to 6:00 (GMT)
    European Data Center: 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (PST) / 11:00 to 23:00 (GMT)
    Japan Data Center: 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. (PST) / 9:00 to 15:00 (GMT)

With Early Access taking place over the weekend, congestion may also peak around noon, but login queues have typically been longer during the hours listed above. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you use this information as a reference when considering when to play. Information regarding peak hours during weekdays will be provided at a later time.

    ■ Inactivity while using dance emotes or attacking striking dummies

We have received feedback regarding players who are allegedly using dance emotes or attacking striking dummies in order to bypass the automatic logout that occurs after 30 minutes of inactivity. However, these methods cannot bypass the automatic logout. When player characters are left inactive in these states, their status is automatically changed to “Away from Keyboard” before they are eventually automatically logged out for 30 minutes of inactivity. To some, this may appear as though they were successful in avoiding automatic logout, which we believe to be the basis of these rumors.

    ■ Automatic logout due to inactivity during ending credits

We have received reports of players being automatically logged out during the ending credits of A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, or Shadowbringers due to 30 minutes of inactivity. Upon investigation, we discovered that the procedure for avoiding automatic logout was missing for these ending credits, for which I am truly sorry. As for the ending credits of Endwalker, this procedure is included and you will not be logged out for inactivity during its duration.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but when viewing the ending credits for A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, we ask that you press a button on your controller, press a key on your keyboard, or click with your mouse. By doing so before 30 minutes pass, you will be able to reset the automatic logout timer. Please also note that simply moving your mouse cursor will not prevent automatic logout. This issue will be added to a list of known issues in a separate announcement.

Once again, I would like to apologize for the many inconveniences caused to our players as a result of the congestion that has continued since the start of Early Access. I am truly sorry, and we will continue to do our utmost to address the congestion situation and the errors during login queues as soon as possible.
tl;dr: Free week for everybody with Endwalker purchased and a subscription active (Including the free 30 days for a new account purchase) starting on Tuesday, December 7th, with the official launch. With the potential for more free time if the problem persists after the free week has ended.

I know celebrating stuff companies should be doing anyway is a bit silly but at least they're being transparent and offering some kind of compensation for the issues.

The afk thing certainly worked before endwalker in various places, though it usually involved some NPC dialogue interaction.

The parts with your buddies were nice, but the random other stories were a bit meh, especially at the first aetheryte. I think it picks up at the second though once it gets more into the cutlure and lore of the people there. I guess the same could be said about labyrinthos, once the plot gets into motion it also gets more interesting and sadly ends right there then.

As for the 3rd zone quests, I think the side quests do exactly what they need to do, most of them sell the feeling of the zone. My only complaint of the whole zone so far is that they didn't give you an option to give a very obvious retort to a certain character.. like seriously, wtf, I could have given that character a list of reasons why people aren't happy. That the question stumped other characters is a bit .. dumb, as they have experience most of these items on my list as well. That being said, they did a few very ballsy things in the zone, which helped sell the overall feeling instead of just handwaiving it.
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

I'm still just using my Shadowbringers gear at lvl.85 and only done the MSQ and flight quests. The only complaint i have is the blue haired boy stealth quest. In a game where people can drag aoe spamming trains over to those points, in some cases im pretty sure on purpose thats the standout complaint i've had but no ilvl yet. Hell i still have yet to equip anything but a helm from the 2nd dungeon because its still technically catch up gear.

I like Thavnair but tower aside it feels like it would have fit way more the Othard stuff in stormblood. Maybe at some point before they decided to do doma and ala mhigo and it was just a far east expansion that was the plan, rad-at-han is on the sirensong sea route too.

Labrynthos feels like its just got a really clear set up but the 4th zone starts to shake that up a little bit but it still feels like a weaker kolusia to me.

everybody with sub is affected, not just those who want to experience EW.
your "everybody with Endwalker purchased" would narrow it down to the latter group and shells out free time only to them.

Most of the zones in FF14 normally aren't that amazing to look at (IMO anyways) and generally there's only a couple in each expansion that sort of stick out as amazing. I've been pretty meh about most of the EW ones although Labyrinthos as a concept is cool. Part two of the area is obviously going to be a lot better, much like Kholusia was in ShB (although I liked Kholusia on both visits). While mentioning being meh about zones that certainly doesn't apply to zone four which I just hit.

I thought the Thavnair was pretty cool though and the minor reveal about the zone was nice. Zone three is sort of a mixed bag for me. The story beats are all perfectly fine (mostly the ending and the beginning), but the middle just drags on for ages and there are certain parts that I found really dumb (or maybe will be explained later, IDK).

  17. #51677
I'm nearing the end of zone 5. I've had my gripes with EW's plot prior to zone 5 but I've been thoroughly enjoying zone 5's story and characters thus far, no complaints.

I have given up logging in for this weekend. I got in yesterday for a few minutes before they kicked us from the server. Haven't been able to login since. Usually I get place 6k+ in the queue. Then a random 2002 error kicks you from the lobby and the queue starts again.

  19. #51679
MSQ done, another masterpiece in terms of story in the MMO genre.
Every other game is just a joke in that regard compared to it, seriously.

Not a sliver of doubt in my mind.
The characters work, they aren't forgotten, they remain relevant. What happened in ARR remains important throughout and while the way the story is portrayed, through how you do the quests and how your character remains voiceless and a bit robotic, remains weak, it's still miles ahead of the competition in the genre (that is the MMORPG). The last picture you see in the credits says it all.

Only thing annoying me so far is the amount of escort/follow npc quests. Feel as though the expansion should be called NPCwalker.
