    Question Custom Cooling Mat?

I currently have an Alienware m15x and it runs fine but I notice a small performance boost when it is cooler. Right now while just surfing the web and watching porn, that sort of thing, running about 60C. That is while sitting on a small screwdriver case that raises it about .5in. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that makes custom cooling mats, not necessarily "Cooling" per-say, (It doesn't need a fan) but just to raise it to get more air under it so the fans have more fresh air to bring in.

If you're not familiar with the fan set up of Alienwares, I have attached a MS paint diagram so you can see I'm just looking for something to raise the entire computer like .5in and leave the fans exposed. Another thing to keep in your head for suggestions is the battery is in the back (between the fans) and when the screen is open all the way, the back of the computer is fairly heavy so it needs support so it doesn't fall backwards.

I too have had difficulty in locating a good cooling mat/laptop cooler for my behemoth M18x alienware laptop. In my opinion (although I have yet to see a cooler that does this), we really need a cooler that has vertical fans mounted near the back of the mat/pad to direct the heat out (Testing has shown that blowing cooler air into the laptop is not as advantageous as promoting the air to blow out). I am getting pretty tempted to buy some (3) usb fans (http://www.frys.com/product/5442979?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG) and jerry-rig my own notebook cooler. I'll post my pictures and success (I hope) story on MMO-Champ. I just need to find a decent aluminum lap cooler with at least 3 usb ports and find an aestetically pleasing way to mount the coolers. Here's what I bought in the interum and works for me so far:

There are many cooler stands/mats that will do what you are asking:

On a side note, one of the big problems with laptop cooling is that the fins the fans blow air through usually act like a lint trap in a dryer. Over time, if neglected, a wall of lint builds up, blocking the airflow, and greatly reducing the amount of heat that can be dissipated through them. If you take the time to reverse blow them out with a can of air every so often, it will work wonders in keeping the system cool.

Let's not forget that cooling fans do very little as compared to a decent cooling pad. Placing your laptop on a fabric surface (i.e. bed, sweatpants your wearing) will generate extreme heat and temperature increases as compared to placing it on an aluminum pad. I believe though that an aluminum pad versus a lift system (http://www.xoxide.com/laptop-lifts.html) would probably provide a negligible difference in temperature

I would just buy 2 fans , make a simple support for the back , turn them on using a power transformer ( Dunno how's it called in english hope I got it right ;P )

Better performance than any pre-made cooling for laptop. much cheaper.

Well from what i have gathered the alienware laptop cooling setup is generally of poor design. This is not uncommon for most companies, other gaming notebooks have some rear vents and front intakes and provide better cooling, the M18x is actually susceptible to more problems when included w/ the dual gpu setups as well as i believe the pricier m17x's may have as well.
