I'll search some guides when I get home from work if you need any help finding reliable sources. However I highly suggest the 'overclock'/overclockers websites. :P Should be self-explanatory lol
I know, but my pc will not reboot, even my reset button won't work when it hangs when I try, can't restart from windows, or from bios, can use shutdown, for the rest the pc works ok.

I have it running at 4.4 atm so there is at least that.

Doesn't have to be the biggest overclock. Personally, I've settled for 4.0GHz on my 5820K. There is something to be said for 'reasonable' overclocks.

Agree, I prefer to get the most efficient overclock, not intending to go balls to the walls and crank up the voltage to get around 200 Mhz extra considering I have my 5820K set at 4.3 Ghz at 1.15 volts with adaptive mode on so it can downclock along with the volts, though not set up anything for this thread since I can't seem to find a spare 8 hours of free time where it won't bother me to do this test run.

I do question software stability with very high overclocks though I can't recall if that was more of a GPU thing then CPU.

First overclock submitted, just whacked up the multiplier to 45, didnt mess around with voltages or FSB yet (because I need to read into these things, ALOT)

is that bad ? all I done was read a few guides saying I could nock up the multiplier to 45 right off the bat with decent cooling.

Ah, just looked closer. Was reading the VCore on the motherboard as the CPU voltage. haha I've just heard bad stuff about HW Monitor before. You're all good though.

lol, I just dropped the OC back to stock after reading your post
Going to have to really do some research on how far I can push this processor.

also is it worth separating the I5's from the I7 as the I7's have a higher stock and therefore Higher OC potential, than the I5's ?

Truthfully, if you analyze the charts, for instance, Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge, since they have such a wider selection, you'll notice that just because the i7 is that, it doesn't mean it will necessarily always achieve higher clocks, not to mention also often times it requires more voltage because you have to remember it's also powering hyper-threading, as well as sometimes more L3 caching. These things add up. So, too often they've been too similar or traded blows here and there it's never been an issue. However if people wanted me to, I would go ahead and separate i5s from the i7s.

FWIW I have been running my 5820k at 4.4 for several months now with no crashes. I just always forget to run a stress test overnight to authenticate for posting here >.<

I've pondered the idea of letting someone show their task manager with days up and CPU-ID and your name, but I've decided against it because who knows if you did any real stressing programs, ya know?

True, but I did stress test when I originally built my new X99 rig, but didn't think to screenshot anything for the forum. I just haven't given it a second thought once I got it stable at 4.4GHz. I wasn't able to keep it stable at 4.5 without putting way too much voltage to it, so I dropped it back to 4.4 and called it a day. If I let OCCT run, after about 15 minutes or so, I see temps get up into the high 70s-low 80s, and that is perfectly acceptable to me. I will go ahead and run some stuff overnight to post here this weekend.

disappointed there are not more skylake's in here, would have thought more people would have them by now

Well its not needed thats why 2500k or better is still powerful cpu especially overclocked and if i had a 6600k myself i probably wouldn't bother atm at least. Its not needed for gaming atm maybe in 3-4 years.

Cba to run 8 hours of stability testing.
