Yeah I can't imagine that as a reason, but so long as everything else in the system goes perfectly fine, as it has been, I have no reason to worry there are any true faults in the system/SSD. I'd like to be able to show someone a killer 2 second boot up time, but I can live without it if I have to. x_x

Its not impossible that the VGA mode on the card is working sub-optimally, but it would be a rather unusual problem.

What are other signs we could know it is working sub-optimally, if anything?

On my computer* those drivers load about 10x faster and there is a notable break between classpnp.sys and desktop appearing, but it's around 5-10 seconds only. I think that during the break windows starts all kernel mode services, and one or more of those are bugging for you. On the other hand I also did a bunch of tweaks to make startup faster like turning off half-dozen unneeded autostarting services (wtf is touchscreen service starting automatically when 99.9% of win7 machines does not have touchscreen) and allowing windows to use all four cores while booting, not just one.

I want to do that vesseblah, I'm just not 100% on which drivers/services I absolutely need and which I don't. =S

    ---------- Post added 2011-11-19 at 12:52 AM ----------

So I just went into BOOT Advanced Options under System Config Boot and I found greyed out "Number of processors:" and then a drop down menu, listed with "1." So I put it to 4. There is also an unchecked box for "Maximum memory:" and the number is at "0." Guessing number of processors is referring to number of cores, right? And Idk what I should put in for maximum memory.

Those settings can only apply restrictions on your machine (reduce cores or memory). For default and optimal behaviour - they should be left alone.

So a guild-mate thinks he may have found the culprit:

    A hit on this line

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    SRTSP"
    ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...emoval_Tool.exe

ESPECIALLY if you used to run Norton but don't anymore. Even if you do run Norton, uninstall, run that tool, and see if the error goes away. If it does, we have our culprit.
Going to see about doing this.

    ---------- Post added 2011-11-19 at 01:32 AM ----------

So I did the above, this is just for the record for folks here, it didn't work. But now I'm getting a quiet Windows error sound of some sort every few moments, going to film it so you can hear.... nothing showing up on my screen though, weird. O_o

    ---------- Post added 2011-11-19 at 01:40 AM ----------

The quiet error sound happened only a few times and has stopped, it seems.

Random bluescreens and slow startup... I'm starting to think all your problems are inherently related to your P67, the SATA ports and/or cables, and/or the drives attached to them.

My OS boots in about 6 seconds on platter drives...

Haven't had a BSOD in like a week, actually! And I've been gaming, Folding, rendering, lots o' stuff!

At least we're getting down to maybe what's the problem.

Wouldn't put it past Asus. :|

I have an I5 sandybridge 2500. Just got it like 2 week ago and built an entirely new system. Also have a SATA III Intel SSD with windows 7 64-bit.

Have not had one issue along the lines of what you speak of. Windows starts up. The dots appear and start coming together to build the windows picture. Before they are even touching each other my computer finishes booting up and I can type my password to log in. The windows screen is literally only there for maybe three seconds.

Also using a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO motherboard. Glad to see I don't have this issue . Sorry bout yours.

The generalist looks outward; he looks for living principles, knowing full well that such principles change, that they develop. It is to the characteristics of change itself that the mentat-generalist must look. There can be no permanent catalogue of such change, no handbook or manual. You must look at it with as few preconceptions as possible, asking yourself, "Now what is this thing doing?" -Children of Dune

I once thought so, but then when the issue I had back then was resolved, or rather, put aside.... (I was booting Win7 off my bad Seagate Barracuda 1TB back then, now obviously it's just a data drive, not QUITE as important.) but alas, maybe a number of these issues are the board itself. However, I've had it since March.. can I still RMA at this point? I know I couldn't possibly return it to Micro Center though, sadly.

Just want to put this out there for those who care and those who participated in this thread, (likely care but who knows?!) I once again set the bootup to show drivers being loaded and what-not, and it looked like the same amount of drivers as last time or close to it, but DAMN, it flew through them! Quite an improvement indeed! Thanks to all of you!

It was my understanding that this is an ASUS-specific issue and that it goes away if you disable the marvell ports through UEFI. It's not enough not to use them, you need to kill them off.

Unfortunately I use my marvell-ports and will have to endure the extra five horrific seconds.

I had disabled them before, but during this installation, I did not even install their drivers.

I'm running SSD on Intels SATAIII with 2600K, no issues what so ever.
Also, if you're silly to use your disks on the 3rd party ports, well, lol.
