Buying a laptop this weekend - couple of questions/check the spec

I know I've asked for help a few times on here, I'm very indecisive, but I am definitely getting a laptop this weekend! Thanks in advance for any help :-)

Function: mobility, but big enough screen to comfortably use for hours. Needs to be a decent multitasker, planning on using it for work/study. It would be nice if it could also handle GW2 and TSW on medium-low settings. It's not replacing my desktop, but to be able to keep playing when I'm visiting family or whatever would be nice. Any feedbacl would be appreciated :-)

And I have a couple of dumb questions:
1) I'm liking the 2GB memory for graphics card, but think I remember reading somewhere that this was pointless because of . . . something . . . anyone got an opinion?

2) The quad core processor I've selected is actually marginally cheaper than a dual core i7 with higher clock speed. My understanding is that the quad should still be faster for multi tasking, and can also shut down cores to speed itself up? Is this correct? Also, am I right in assuming the ability to speed up the CPU (the turbo thingy) is automatically part of any i7? (yes that's a really dumb questions, but some laptop sellers make a big deal of it, whereas PC Specialist don't seem to mention it, so figured better safe than sorry).

3) I have my desktop backed up entirely on a portable HDD. Can I simply use this to install everything onto the laptop? Or will things like Windows simply not accept being put onto a second computer. If not, I'm going to go with Ubuntu on the laptop, assuming I can actually figure out Wine and make it play WoW - I assume that GW2 and TSW would also be playable this way?

4) Kinda same as (3), I have digital versions of Cata and Rift, I can get them onto a new computer ok right? I miss having discs for everything . . .

You need a lot of VRAM for really high resolutions. For the screen's native resolution you're ok with less.
Can't comment on the CPU since I don't know!
Windows probably won't boot since they'll detect a completely different system. Some programs (like WoW) will work, but others will need to be reinstalled aswell.
And since you have purchased the games, you can download them on any computer (I downloaded WoW on 2 computers a month ago and Rift will probably be the same)

On another forum someone explained there was no point having the 2GB VRAM for such a low resolution computer. It's annoying that it's the only option, I've emailed them to see if I could downgrade to 1GB and reduce the price a bit
