    Help my friend in Arcane

    Just raided with a friend of mine. She has raided a little bit. This was the 1st time I raided with her in 4.3. She asked how she did at the end of the run. I said she did fine, but she thinks she can do better. I was uploading to WoL. I have it below and her armory. At the time she did not have 4 piece or the spine trinket. She was using the valor one. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    From what I can see, your friend uses arcane barrage.

    Too much hit and too much haste. Reforge for more mastery.

    I would start with changing out all the yellow gems to Int/Mastery instead of haste. Next would be to undo all her reforging. Arcane mages stack mastery over haste.

    Often DPS issues like this are a result of someone not 100% grasping the correct rotation, so i'll quickly run through that in case that is where the problem lies.

    For reference: 1=Arcane Blast 2=Arcane Missiles 3=Arcane Barrage 4=Arcane Explosion 5=Evocate.

    So rotation is this: Pop CD's including mana gem then: 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 5 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2 3 (Got bored at this point so chuck a three in there)
    It can be a pain to grasp, but with some luck and a lot of practice you should get it.

    Except you still got it wrong:

    1 1 1 1 Then pop all CD's 1 1 1 1 ... and so on.

    This person has no clue of the burn phase, when to use it and when to use the Gem properly... Incanters absorb, unknown
    In general, arcane cannot be properly judged by WoL as a big part of Arcane is mana control and fight control. Which in reality is much harder than 11112 which a lot of people believe arcane is all about.

    Arcane barrage on a fight like Ultraxion is a big no no, only use it when moving.
    5 melee attacks on Ultrax, only happens if the mage is not casting something... always be casting something...

    On spine, an arcane mage should be (near) top on the tendons, which is definatly not the case. Again here a lot of Arcane barrages even Fire blast...
    Fireblast is a no no in Fire, let alone in arcane.

    On madness, using evocation twice for a total of 7.3 seconds, one channel is 5-6 seconds and has a 2 minute cd. Evocate on this madness fight should be used 5-6 times. Same for the Gem, which was used only 3 times. again 0 use of absorbtion

    Like earlier posters have said, burn phase:
    AB * 4, PoM, AB, Gem + Arcane power, AB Spam untill you reach roughly 30% mana, Evocate

    Repeat the burn phase anytime evocate is about to come off CD.

    Normal rotation is mixing AB * x and Arcane Missiles, x will depend on many circumstances like crits, external mana gains, Concentration procs, Arcane power usage, boss debuffs etc.

    On fights where you have predictable incomming magic damage, Pop Mage Ward to absorb that damage and gain a buff for more dps (Incanters absorbsion) A pre-casted MW is a must on i.e. Ultrax.

    To sum it all up, there is significant room for improvement

    not entirely true - it's a small dps gain to use an instant cast just before phaseshifting to bridge the gap of being unable to act with a GCD (though you might even consider using fire blast if you dont want your AB stack to drop), but then again i doubt that was his intention

    Finetuning like bridging a gcd before jumping before phaseshifting is not of the greatest concern.
    This would be 3rd level concern, offcourse launching an instant 1.2 seconds before HoT/FL, spending the GCD in the real realm is ideal.
    This is a gain of ~15k damage per required shift, will be about 100 dps gain?

    Where here I have a feeling we are overall talking about a guestimated 5k or so dps lost due to mismanagement of the Arcane spec

    Melee swings can happen during instant casts.

    people saying "arcane isnt what ppl think l0l theres mana management and stuff" are just sheeps who cant admit their spec is the easiest spec to play
    dont tell me that mana is hard to manage especially since they nerfed the hp by 25%

    Yes, this is an excellent point. Player mana is directly affected by boss health, and all bosses do die within the first 30 seconds.

    Less boss HP = less damage needed = less AB's = more mana = less difficult to manage mana

    If anything it makes it more difficult to manage mana. Having the boss HP dropping all the time throws off my timing and I end fights with 50%.

    Oh God this is the truth, it's the easiest spec to play. You can slam your face on the keyboard and still do massive amounts of damage.

    How about when phase transitions or adds die before I even get to Evo range? Now I have a massive disjoint between my AP/gem and Evo timing.
