    Most Hunter-Like SWTOR Class

So, I play a hunter in wow and have for the past 4 years. I love the class and everything about it. Two weekends ago I did the Weekend Beta for TOR and I loved it. I even pre-ordered it but i'm still a bit confused. I'm just not sure which class is the most like the WoW hunter playstyle. Ranged DPS, Little to No Melee and as much kiting as possible mostly for PvP

I started as an Imperial Agent Sniper but i'm not sure that's what I want. It didn't feel like it had the kiting part that I want.

I did some research on Bounty Hunter and BH Mercenary seems to be close to a wow hunter but I'm still now sure. Help!

    Thanks

Bounty Hunter/Republic Trooper are the most like hunters
for Bounty Hunter Mercenary has no Melee in its rotation i think
for Trooper it would be Commando
IA is far from hunter compared to BH and RT mainly because of the Cover Mechanic that you have to incorporate to be effective

BH mercenaries or Trooper Commandos I'd say. Though if you make a mercenary prepare to get used to the animation of bending over and shooting a missile from your back cause that ends up being one of their fillers :/

I don't know, Sniper feels awfully hunterish to me. But my sniper is only level 15.

So it's basically like Steady/Cobra Shot?

When using Cover it did feel very hunterish but half of the hunter class in pvp, atleast in my opinion, is mobility. IA seems like it doesn't really have much of that because it's so reliant on the Cover system.

No the skill I'm talking about is called Tracer Missile if you're dpsing with the Arsenal tree. Look it up on youtube, it really turned me off from the advanced class :/

Shame too cause I was looking forward to spike spiegels voice x)

No, it is. You just have to manage your heat with it. Think of it as Arcane shot but there are more important usages to it than just being a focus dump.

Funny enough if you ignore the melee/ranged aspect I found that a Jedi Knight Sentinel (combat) plays very much like a Cata MM Hunter as you build your resource with a couple of average hitting abilities and burn it off with stronger hitting ones, Strike acts very much like Steady Shot and then you burn it with Slash (Blade Rush when spec'd) which is like Arcane Shot and Blade Storm which is like Aimed Shot. There is also Zealous Strike I was using off CD for nice Focus boost and Master Strike on Silvers and Elites, but in general I found myself using a similar priority based rotation I used on my Hunter if felt fluid and natural.

Of course this basing things on my experience during a single beta weekend up to level 25, I could most likely be wrong in how I was playing I'll know when the game ships and I get some more playtime.

As far as a resource mechanic that works similar to hunters, that would be the Rage mechanic sith warriors use (and focus or whatever for jedi guardians that mimick it).

It either doesn't generate at all, or generates very slowly from taking damage (in shien and soresu stances) and most of it is generated though using either Assault or Sundering Assault then all other abilities expend it. There is no autoattack, and the rate it increases based off damage taken is very small, so it isn't like Rage in WOW at all. It is much more similar to hunter focus.

But as far as ranged attacks and stuff, troopers/bounty hunters. I hated the cover mechanic for IA and Smug.
I like ponies and I really don't care what you have to say about that.

Nah sniper is nothing like WoW hunter. They have a few of the same abilities but sniper has much less jumping around/kiting.

Resource system wise Sniper would be closest to WoW Hunter, since their energy system is exactly how you would think it's like, similar to rogue's energy or hunter's focus.

However, playstyle wise Bounty Hunters are closer to WoW hunters, as they have more control their movement (kiting) while Sniper needs to be in cover to be effective, so moving around without it wouldn't be benefical to you. However, snipers have tools like stuns, roots to gain distance.

Then again, BH playstyle also has a variety, Mercenary is the traditional squishy long-ranged DPS while PowerTech is durable, close/medium ranged DPS, meaning that being in melee range isn't necessarily a bad thing.

If it fires a gun then it's basically hunter-like class. Your companion is functionally your pet.

As many have said, the Trooper Commando feels the mos tlike the Hunter in terms of controlling mobs/kiting. (And fo course the mirror spec for BH.)

BH mercenaries and the republic equivelant aswell i guess than.
As an old time pvp hunter used to a massive deadzone I was kitting melee classes to their deaths like a madman as a BH merc :')

I played a BH merc and had fun kiting people and mobs. It was very fun.
